Have you ever met someone who had the same surname as you but not relate to you?

I have what is a very common surname in Minnesota, and uncommon in most other places. There is, or at least was, a guy with my same first, middle and last name. With the same birth day, just two years difference. When I was a manager of a pizza place I thought my employees were playing a joke on me when I saw an order with my name for an order I would never make. Sure enough the guy comes in to pick up and he's a police officer. I've got my name on my shirt and he's got my name on a name plate. We had a pretty good laugh about it, he became a regular.
I counted one time and the Minneapolis phone book when I was a kid had 17 pages of people with my surname.

Yes! It's not a super uncommon name. More interestingly, though, our best friend (hubby's roommate in college) has the exact same last name as ours minus the first letter. So for example: if our last name is rollins, his is sollins. Pretty cute ;)

Growing up, we had a babysitter with our last name, but there was no relation. It was weird because we went to the same school for a year (she was in Grade 10 or 11, and I was in a lower grade).

I have an uncommon married surname. One of the CEOs of a very large company we did business with has the same surname. The first time we were at the same event he came up to me asking if I was related to all these people. I had to keep telling him I married into the name and had no clue. At industry events I still get asked if we're related.

My maiden name is one of the top 5 most common names in the US. Growing up my next door neighbors had the name last name but we weren't related.

Not in person. In the early days of Facebook, when it was just college students, I friended a guy with the same last name as me. He was the only non-related person on there with my last name.

My birth name, yes, a girl in my high school had my same very common 1st and last name.

My married name, no. It is very uncommon with less than 200 people (all relatives) in the US with this surname. It is also uncommon in their home country with under 300 sharing the surname.

Same sur name? I've had or have overheard conversations and have met one, with 4 people over the years with my whole name, unrelated.

I interviewed for an internal position, all 3 of us interviewed were the same last name, unrelated.

I've never worked at a place that didn't have 2 people with the same whole name. Granted I'd only worked at 2 places long term, high school job and current job (others were internship and helping out short term.) All 4 of them were named Dave. Two at the grocery store in high school and two at my current job, one retired now and one moved to a different state.

Sitting in class, the girl in front of me is talking to her friend next to her telling her how much she is in love with mrodgers.

I was in the registrar office at college sitting next to another kid. She looks at me and says, "mrodgers? For nursing?" I'm like, ah... no. She looks at her next paperwork, chuckles and looks at the kid sitting next to me, "mrodgers for nursing?" He's like, "yup."

I was walking into work when one of the guys shouts to me, "Hey, you're dead, what are you doing here?" He heard mrodgers was killed in a car accident that morning on the radio.

I've heard of another one, but I can't remember. These were all different people as I knew the first one was from a neighboring school district, the one at college I heard what school he was from and it wasn't the one just mentioned, and the one killed in a car accident was much younger.

My maiden surname is somewhat common. Not sure if I know anyone personally but there are sports figures, celebrities etc with the name. Married surname not too common but if I look it up there are def people out there with the name but no one I’ve come across.

My maiden name is not unusual.
My married name is a bit more so and there is a different spelling of it. It is two words, so we get extra junk mail

Yes, I've met some with the same last name.
My name isn't too uncommon, which makes it harder for the Terminator to locate me.

I never met her, but I applied and got accepted to a college that someone with my first and last name was also accepted to.
Something was switched and we ended up getting the other’s paperwork. I attended but she didn’t. My maiden name was Slavic and pretty uncommon, but apparently it was more common in Nebraska than St. Louis.
That sounds like my husband. When we transferred to a four-year university the registrars' system somehow mixed up his information with 3 others with the same first and last name. They were all different ages. It took a year to straighten out, and we learned that there were seven individuals in the system with his name, and he was the only one currently enrolled. They could not figure out how the mix-up occurred, but delayed financial aid, receipt for transcripts, and course registration. It was a real pain.

Are you saying there's deaf people with the same name as you, just no one that you've heard of? :rotfl2:

For a while there was a fireman who had my same exact name, and he was a big ladies man. I would get a lot of strange calls. (note for the younger people that is when we called 411 to get a number)

My maiden name is not common. After I graduated from high school, a family moved into our small town with the same last name (no relation). My last name was a name of a house on HGTV's show HomeTown (is that the name in Laurel MS?) He mentioned the name of the house (the previous owners) and mispronounced it twice. Drove me nuts.
