Have you ever fainted?

I mean honest-to-goodness fainted dead away. I've been close to fainting several times in my life, usually if I was sick, but as soon as I felt it coming I would lie down and the feeling went away. Earlier this year I was dealing with anemia and fainted. I always thought that everything slowly faded to black beforehand. Not with me. One minute I was sitting and the very next thing I knew I could feel my body like I was wearing it like clothes. I was slumped with my head hanging completely backwards. I hadn't even felt faint or remembered fainting. It was really weird.

So what are your fainting stories?

Twice when I was a teen....I had a habit of not eating :sad2: and it would make me so weak. Anyway one time in church at Mass. Standing with my family all of a sudden everything went black and I was on the floor between the pews. Funny thing was I fell very hard between the seat and the floor and never hurt myself at all.....and then once at the dentist office....like I said as a teen I did not eat much and the Hygenist said let's take some Xrays of your teeth and to come with her, as I stood up and went to walk with her BANG, I fell right to the ground...again everything in my vision went to black and I was gone....I awoke to my Dentist giving my OREO COOKIES and JUICE....I thought that was pretty funny that he had OREO cookies in his office.

Like you, OP, it came on so fast that to even remain seated until the feeling passed was not an option....everything turned black and I was out!!!

Twice. Once in fourth grade when I whacked myself on a bookshelf (teachers thought I had a seizure, which my mom thought was overreacting, but when's the last time a 9 year old fainted dead away when sitting at their desk?). Once in seventh grade, when people were discussing injuries, bam! I fainted on the kid next to me (a boy-OMG SO EMBARRASING when you're 12). :faint:

I fainted after giving blood in high school. Last words out of my mouth before I dropped were, "I'm fine. Will you stop..."

I fainted after a particularly painful medical procedure that puts a lot of stress on the body. Last words out of my mouth were, "Really, I am fine..."

Didn't want to admit I wasn't fine. Dunno why. Didn't want to be a burden or a spectacle, I guess. I think if I thought I was going to pass out now...I'd still say I was fine. :headache:

I always know when I'm pregnant- b/c I pass out. :lmao:

The first time it happened, my DH had to carry me up a flight of stairs to our apartment- didn't know I was PG, but found out two days later.

The worst was when we were at Niagara Falls. We had just finished eating lunch at the Hard Rock. We left and were walking down the street, stopped at a red light with a crowd of people.
I looked at DH and said "I'm going to faint." He didn't believe me. The next minute i awoke on the ground, with people standing over me. I remember him trying to prop me up at the car to open the door and I kept sliding to the ground.
Absolutely nothing I could do to say up on my feet.

The last time I felt that way, I wasn't pregnant, but I ws on some strong meds and we were walking out of a mall- I looked at Dh and he said
"OMG- you're about to faint-"
He grabbed me and sat me down before I fell.

ha! He's learned his lesson with me well.:rotfl

When I was in high school, I had four teeth cut out and got strep throat on top of it. I slept for 24 hours straight and woke up and was in the bathroom trying to wash the blood out of my mouth (sorry, gross). Looked at my mom then looked UP at my mom from the floor.

My sister's is funnier. We both had ear infections one summer in high school/junior high because we had been doing somersaults in a pool and holding our nose and got water in our ears. We were both in the same room at the doctor's and they were going to clean my ears out first. For some reason, my sister (who's older than I am) pictured lasers that would be used for the cleaning and she passed out sideways sitting on the table with her eyes OPEN.

I've fainted once. I was in the doctor's office and he was lancing an infection on my thumb and like a idiot, I watched him do this. :lmao: One minute I was watching, the next, I was lying down on the table.

I have, twice, but it was within minutes of each other. I had just given birth to my son, 6 weeks early, a few hours before. The nurse came in to change the sheets on my bed, and I went to the bathroom. I hit the floor in there and woke up hearing a voice that sounded like it was miles away, but it was the nurse standing over me. After she got me back up, she had me lean on the other bed in the room while she finished changing the sheets. Yep, hit the deck again. A second nurse came in this time and told the other lady she should have never had me stand up, since I had lost so much blood. They wouldn't let me stand up for 2 days after that, I had to get wheeled everywhere. It's a very surreal feeling.

Talk about embarrassing - when I was in high school I was sitting in my english class feeling a little dizzy. Then all of a sudden I heard screaming, and my teacher yelling "WE HAVE A STUDENT DOWN!" into her intercom, and realized that all the desks around me had been pushed away. Apparently I had just tumbled right out of my desk, conking my head hard on the edge of it (which I never felt!).

And I was laying on the floor totally sprawled out with my arms and legs going every which way.

In a dress. :headache:

I faint pretty easy. I have fainted at work when people were talking about veins and stuff. Just the mention of the word veins makes me light headed. I have to lie down for a simple blood test. I fainted in the dentist's office when my daughter was having a root canal. I couldn't even see what was going on. Just the thought of it was enough. I can't handle the sight of blood. I was glad that during childbirth of my children I did not have my contacts in or glasses on so I could not see a thing. I think I have some disorder like a guy I saw on an episode of Law and Order. They said he couldn't have done the murder because he fainted when they showed him pictures of the crime scene.

in college, friends and I accepted a ride to NYC from a guy with an old VW van. Turns out he had worked on the heating system himself and did something to cause the exhaust to come in the van. Luckily, we stopped for lunch when we did.

I went to the McDonalds restroom and passed out - I had just enough time to push myself back away from the sink, so that I fell back into the door and slid down without whacking my head on the sink.

Then I go out to the line to tell my friend I just fainted - just to faint again. I woke up surrounded by a group of girl scouts.....very embarrassing, especially since I made the mistake of exclaiming "oh, ****" as I was coming around! I'm sure the adults thought we were doing drugs!!!

it was scary though!

Twice. One was on purpose. If you hyperventilate and someone does a "heimlich" type of maneuver on you, you'll likely black out. (Kids, don't try this at home.) I did this in 4th grade, when I came to I was on the floor staring at my teacher. She didn't believe that I had actually passed out.

The second time was during my first communion. For some reason I was so nervous that I blacked out in the pew.

4 times, each time in the early stages of pregnancy.

And I guess technically several times during labour with dd1. my bp got too low so I passed out 3 or 4 times they had to give me shots to get me back. I guess I never thought of fainting though I always have really low blood pressure.

I almost fainted on the set of FNL yesterday. it was a combo of the heat, the sun and a lack of water and snacks. i got all shaky and woozy and things started to go black with lots of spots.

I've fainted more times than I can count. The first time I was on the playground in elementary school, I just went down for no reason.

some memorable ones were when I was about 17 I worked in an office during the summer filing papers, answering phones, ect. And I stapled my thumb and passed out. I was wearing a dress then and my boss had to drive me to the doctor.

Every time I get any type of shot I'll pass out. Once I passed out and then paid my doctor bill, my mom was driving me home and I passed out again and had a seizure. Had to go get a CT Scan, that was a fun day.

One time in college I was messing with my fingernail and then I looked down and there was blood all over my desk, conk.

I'm really not looking forward to getting the flu shot this year. I hope there aren't a lot of people around when I faint.

I've come close several times, mostly when I was pregnant, but only ever actually fainted once. It was at a party when I was 19 or 20, but hadn't been drinking. I think my blood sugar crashed. One minute I was standing at the kitchen counter in my friend's house slicing bread with a HUGE knife, and the next I was on the floor. I came to hearing my friend tell me "LET GO! Give it to me!" She was trying to get the knife away from me and I was struggling with her, but I wasn't aware of it. I ended up slashing a big rip into the skirt I was wearing. I think it was a really good thing I was wearing that particular skirt, because it had lots and lots of fabric to it that I think protected me from getting really hurt that night.

Yep, and always as a result of being anemic.

When I was 12 I had a really bad episode. I won't bore you with all the details but I landed on my back on a hard floor and did some damage to it. I still have problems with it sometimes as a result.

When I went to college (the first time, right out of high school) I passed out a few times due to my iron getting too low but I was always aware that it was about to happen and luckily managed to sit or lie down before it happened those times.

Almost every time I've had a blood test I faint. I always make sure to bring DH with me to drive me home.

I also fainted in the recovery room after my son had surgery. He did great, which was good since the nurses had to attend to me. :rotfl: Another time was when my other son was having an in office surgical procedure done. Ironically both these times there was no blood or anything gory like you would expect. I guess I just can't see my kids in that condition. :sad2:

This is what happens to me, too. I won't go anywhere without water because it's the dehydration and low blood sugar that causes it, for me!

Here are my stories:

The first time I was about 6 weeks postpartum with my 3rd child. We were out at Kohls, I just wanted to get out of the house. I know I had 2 of my kids with me, not sure about the third..he might have been at school? Of course, being a new mom my hormones, blood sugar, and everything is wayyy out of whack. Breastfeeding, too, made me prone to dehydration. I remember looking at the stripes on a shirt and they made me dizzy, and down I went. Good thing I wasn't carrying my baby...omg, the thought frightens me. :scared1: I woke up a few minutes later with paramedics around me, and the bystanders said I had a seizure. It took me a few minutes to collect myself..and I am like, "OMG, WHERE ARE MY KIDS?!?" And I guess my DH had just got there, luckily they weren't kidnapped.

About a month later, I had the same thing happen, only in Gap. Because it happened twice, I had a full workup and it turns out I had a heart condition. I stopped breastfeeding and I have been fine since.

I have fainted twice. Once was when they were drawing blood from me. I fainted right in the chair. I scared the heck out of the lab tech!:scared1: The second time was last year. I was having panic attacks and under a lot of stress due to our upcoming move out of state. The doctor gave me some medication and I had a bad reaction to the dose. I fainted at work. My friend saw that I was about to colapsed and helped me to a chair before I actually fell to the floor.
