Have you ever broken something to get a new one?

The TV in our kitchen sucks. It's white, for one thing, when our whole kitchen is black and stainless. It's 13 years old, and just looks like a DINOSAUR!!

But it works. And since it works, I can't justify buying a new one.

Well, last week, DD was careless turning it toward the table, and it almost fell off the counter.

At first I was like , but then I was like

What if it actually *did* fall off the counter and stopped working??? Then I could totally justify getting a new one!!!

Has anyone else ever done something so diabolical? (still not sure I'm going to actually do it!!)

Nope. I take a picture of it, put it on Craigslist and use the money to get another one. :surfweb:

I could never bring myself to wreck something on purpose, but I have gone the route of selling it or giving it to someone who might need it more than I do!

Thought about it seriously thought about it with the 15 yo DVD player cause I wanted to upgrade to Blu-ray. Instead, I just bought the blu-ray player on BF on sale and I'm donating my DVD player to my aunt who only has a VCR and can't rent movies any more because of course all the stores only rent DVDs and DVD players are too expensive - I don't think she realizes she can get one that's better than the one I'm giving her for $20. :rotfl:

just that leg lamp my DH won in that contest.. oops nope that wasn't me that was a movie haha

Just start your 2010 by giving to Goodwill...and your first $10.00 tax deduction :lmao::cheer2:

Nope. :sad2:Because inevitably something, somewhere in my house WILL break on its own. My luck, I would "help" the TV off the counter and the next day my dishwasher would break for real.

OMG, you're right. This is EXACTLY what would happen to me!!!!

My washer had been practically useless for months. The agitator kept coming loose. I couldn't wash any more than like 3 pair of pants & a shirt at a time. DH kept saying..."it works fine, I will look around for a good used one." I got frustrated one day & accidentally on purpose, in a PMS rage, ripped the agitator completely out. (trying to rearrange the clothes that weren't spinning right because they were off balanced) He spent all night trying to fix it before he said..."You have wanted a new one for months...Why didn't you look for a used one?" I will leave out what I said in response. Use your imagination...

I found a decent used washer the next day. As the fellow was putting in my washer, I think he broke the dryer. The very next day it decided not to work.

After getting 2 working appliances a tree fell into the kitchen & destroyed them both & scratched my sliding glass doors. Insurance covered most of the cost. For my $750 deductible, I got a brand new washer & dryer, instead of a used & the kitchen repaired.

Lesson Learned...

Okay, well, I can't post my first 'imagination' response :rotfl2: but, "Honey, this one IS a used washing machine; if we buy a used one from anyone, we'll just be getting their headaches (problems, reason for replacing it...)".

My kitchen is carpeted. Wall to wall carpet. I hate it. It's awful. I can't keep it clean. I don't care if you track mud, spill hot oil, or set it on fire. I want it gone. I figure if I do enough damage to it, we'll need to replace it.

I don't purposely wreck it, but I am NOT concerned when I'm frying chimichangas and oil burns a small hole in it. Or when someone spills spaghetti sauce on it. Or my husband tracks mud in on it.

I have thought about it and I guess I have done it on a small scale.

My husband is very frugal and while that is a quality I admire sometime I think he carries it a bit too far.

Like with his underwear. He has pairs from when we were first married, in 1990... I know because I bought them for him. He won't throw any out until they are worn out... and one small hole or two small holes or a medium size hole is not worn out to him.

So sometimes, when the laundry is being put away those 2 or 3 small holes become one very large hole and he has to throw them out. It hurts him, but I tell him that it give the girls something to buy him for his birthday or Christmas.

I figure I am doing it for his own good.

:rotfl2: Thank you for confirming that I am not alone in the universe. I really wish my DH would understand that I really am a female incredible Hulk that time of the month!

OOoo I hear you! I, too, have to rip apart anything of DH's thats got a hole or two. He doesn't consider anything un-wearable. He's pulled stuff out of our garbage and worn it again!!

...I did. I snapped my crappy cell phone in half. It was mostly out of anger. Haha. I don't regret it. That phone was junk, my contract was almost up and I wanted to switch companies anyway.
