Been to both WDW and DL many many many times and we have never done ROPE DROP.
One year DH & I did the Steam Train Tour at WDW and we had to be at the Magic Kingdom very early and the number of people lined up for Rope Drop was amazing!!!
We ALWAYS do when we go to MK, and since TSM we make sure we're there for rope drop at DHS as well, but the other two, we try to get there right around opening, but it's not as important to us to be there for rope drop.
The only park we've done it for is Studios so we could ride Toy Story Mania. Any other time we hit the parks around 10:00 or 11:00 and never missed anything we wanted to ride. I like being in the parks late but I would do another rope drop. It was fun.
A few times and each time we blew past the newbies getting character photos and picked up fast passes on our way to the busiest ride in the parks. I wouldn't go out of my way to do it but if I'm up anyway its worth it.
Almost always.....but I wake up, like it or not, at 6 every morning, so I spend a lot of time sitting around doing nothing much, waiting for time for parks to open (usually my DISing time ).
Was there for rope drop at every park last year. The best way to be there for opening though, is to be somewhere for breakfast. Being the first people in fantasy land was magical!
We've never seen a park opening show. We've been there before park openings for breakfasts, but on days that we don't have those scheduled, we usually don't make it there early enough.
Yes! We are also sleep late kind of people... But we did get up early enough one day this last trip to watch Mickey roll in on the train and open the MK. It is a must for any Disney Fan's checklist.
We've done rope drop at all the parks and love it. The show at MK is great... but a real advantage is being able to hit the top rides with absolutely no lines.
YES!! Getting there at rope drop, or even better EMH in the morning..you can go SOOO much done adn get fast passes for later on...it is incredible. You can then take a break for lunch and swimming while the parks are most crowded..and go back later. This works great especially during really croweded times!!
We don't generally plan for it, just let things develop, but we ended up there for rope drop on our last trip once at MK and once in the Studios. You sure can get through a lot of attractions quickly at that time of day.

That's what we do. I try to get to DHS for TSM nowadays--esp. if I have a newbie with me who has never ridden it.
Did MK 2 yrs. ago one day of the trip and got picked to test their Nintendo DS park map thing (that must not have worked too well because I think instead of that they've just gone with iphone apps.). It was a blast for me though!!
Of course we are there for RD!! We are still at the parks for closing, too- we tend to go, go, go while at WDW. We don't go at busy times, though, so closings aren't later than 9pm mostly.
We can sleep when we are back home- WDW has too much great stuff to see and do to spend any extra time in bed.
