Basically yes.. I still can't believe it but here goes..
I was working at a smallish airline. I took my vacation time, went on a
disney cruise for 7 days, got mixed up with lovely Hurricane Jeanne. We were basically rescued at sea on the Friday night and put up at the Swan for the night, was due to fly out Saturday afternoon.. I called in to MAKE SURE all was still a go, was told absolutely... we are sending it as a rescue flight, which is empty, but to pick up all the passengers. (myself, and my family included).. I was due to work late Sunday.
So... Saturday Morning get up bright and early as Jeanne is rolling in, call Reservations, yes flight is leaving now, you are still on for 2pm, I have this feeling that I couldn't shake.. Sure enough, I call back before leaving for MCO, flight isn't leaving as it won't make it before MCO shuts down... Husband and myself call EVERY rental car agency as we need a mini van for 8, get one, he takes off, I pack up everyone.. By this time it is basically early evening and the weather is getting

.. In retrospect, we should have stayed put, but we had no experience with hurricanes, and wanted to get OUT.. So we plan out to drive to Newark and drop the mini-van there and fly home.. We basically drove ALL night.. I call MY boss explaining I couldn't make it, as really they left me stranded, as well as 160 odd passengers as well (they said it wouldn't be until MOnday before they could fly in to MCO), she said ok I will replace you)..
In Newark, on OUR flight home is the CEO of the Company, how ironic is that?? Now I am a total greaseball, supposed to be dressed clean, but feel like a dirty mess.. He is super nice, and apologetic..
On Monday when I arrive to work, I get called in and my supervisor has paperwork, and says I hate to do this, but this is a letter with a suspension, because although you called in, you are a NO SHOW

.. She felt horrible, and I was absolutely floored.. I said how about the whole flight who is STILL stuck in Florida because you abandoned them there, when ALL other carriers rescued their passengers. I signed the letter, resigned two weeks later.. I couldn't morally stay in a company that worked that way.. She really begged me to go to the union, but I just wouldn't do it.. They did go bankrupt about 5 months later, so..
