Have you ever been injured at work?

I was bit by a student last year. It broke the skin and I had to get a tetnus shot. I also got hit in the face and head butted by the same student. Good times;)

ETA...I worked with special needs children.

I fractured my big toe at work falling up the cement staircase that was a "centerpiece" in the lobby.

The workers comp folks where I worked were great. I had no complaints about them.

Lots of employees got hurt on that thing. A girl fell down those steps breaking her leg, a fellow who fell on the bottom step breaking his arm and the various other folks who slipped spraining various body parts.

Workers comp took care of us all.

Yep, 1978 got in a brawl with a drunk driver I was attempting to arrest (finally did) Injured both my knees and jaw. I needed knee surgery and and still have problems 32 years later. Dept workers comp paid everything. (He got 6 months sentence and served only 20 days) 1980 while chasing a truck thief throught the woods (after he took down a power pole) I got poison ivy all over my face. Face swelled up and could not open my eyes for days. (he got away). Again dept. insurance paid for everything.
Later working for an insurance company I got carpel tunnel of my right wrist. I used this tool that you waved a sensor over a bar code for damage estimates. Company paid for everything.

A loooooooooooong time ago I was kind of goofing around at work and severed a tendon on my left hand. Worker's comp paid for it even though it was my fault.

Similar result with my left hand, only I tore the tendon. I was 17 working at a fast food restaurant who unfortutely, had a section of bathroom tile floor in the back (something they never should have laid down in the first place). That area of the floor was notorious for being slippery due to grease. I slipped and fell and when I went down, put my hand/arm down. Well, my hand was facing out behind me and my arm went back further than it was meant to, tearing my tendon. I had surgery to fix it and haven't had any problems with it since. The only thing that I have noticed is that my left wrist area doesn't swell if I get hurt, it shrinks :confused3

Due to the accident happening at work, it naturally went through workman's comp. Unfortunately, mine was almost a nightmare dealing with the hearings (it might have had something to do with the two managers also falling and getting hurt b/c of the floor). After it was all over, it was hard to find another job b/c once it was found out I had been on comp, no company wanted to touch me. One finally did hire me and I was glad to finally get that experience as far away from me as possible.

I had 1st and 2nd degree burns on my arm and breast from scalding hot coffee. The restaurant I worked in had swinging doors between the kitchen and dining room. I was walking past the door, with some dirty plates in my hand when a co-worker came through the door with a fresh pot of coffee. The plate in my hand shattered the coffee pot and the scalding coffee poured all over me. I was off work for awhile and I did receive workers comp to replace my lost wages.

I think all of you should retire - ASAP..;)

Shortly after returning to work after having my son I tripped on a mat at work and dropped a tray of dishes and fell, landing on top of them and had a plate go trough my hand cutting it very deeply and close to the tendon. I got a unch of stitches and they put a cast on that arm to keep me from moving my thumb and possibly tearing the tendon. It was reported and I received workman's compensation for the time that I was off work and the ambulance bill was covered by work.

I just had a follow up with my dr. I have to have surgery on wednesday to re break my nose. I have a deviated septum and it needs to be corrected. He can do it in his office, but its very very painful so i opted for the surgery. All I want to do is work and I cant! ughh

I was visiting one of our mills several years ago. I was walking with a group of 5 or 6 people. We were going out a door, I was first so I moved to the side as we were talking. There was about a 1 foot drop off. The platform at the door had a yellow outline but with a large group I wasn't looking down but at the people talking. I fell and sprained my ankle. The mill person that was with us had to make a report and I had to talk to their person the next day over the phone. I did end up going to urgent care the next day to have it checked out. The platform around at this door was probably only 3ft x 3ft. They really needed railings. The next time I went back to this mill the same person was escorting us around. We went by the infamous door and it has since been closed off permanently.

I fell down a flight of stairs when I was dismissing my class a couple of years ago. My foot missed a step and I fell backwards and tumbled down about 15 steps. I was very sore and horribly black and blue, but luckily nothing was broken. I was more embarrassed than anything else and I wasn't even going to report it, but another teacher saw me and got the nurse.

I can't enough good things about the doctor they sent me to. He was very thorough and spent a lot of time with me.

I had a misfortune of injuring my back at work. Went to my supervisor and filled out all of the required forms. I was able to get an appointment fairly quickly with my doctor and found out I had herniated a disc in my back. Kept reporting back to my supervisor and give him the doctors note which kept me off work for several weeks. When I returned to work and after many excuses from my boss about my claim, I finally discovered that my boss never submitted my paperwork and charged me sick leave for my time off. Unfortunately I was screwed because the paperwork could not be filed at such a late date so I was responsible for the doctors visits and 2 months of physical therapy. They did credit me back my sick leave but I was stuck with over $2000 in medical bills that I had to pay and that was after my personal insurance paid some. Gotta love the Federal government and their rules. My boss just received a slap on the wrist and I got stuck with the bills.

YEP!! just this month too! I was grabbing a sleeping bag from a high cubby and turned around, and tripped over a bean bag chair that I KNEW was there. Skun my knee so bad its taken 3 weeks to heal

I haven't but we have a business and have been scammed by an employeee claiming a WC injury in the past year.

X had lost a leg in a previous injury - we hired her - made accomodations for her disability - she said in June/July that she had fallen off a stool at work - DH told her he would start the WC process and what it would entail - doctor, drug test, etc... she suddenly felt fine, just asked us to switch her to another job duty, which we did (she didn't want a drug test). We fired her for shortages and other reasons in November. In January we got a notice she was suing us for an injury she received in October - in October, she complained that her prosthetic leg wasn't fitting correctly, and that she needed to go to the doctor for that, but there was no injury! Even with our documentation, our attorney said the WC provider would likely pay her a settlement to make the claim go away, but it ended up that between our records and the doctor's (lack of) records, her claim was denied.

This is why WC is such a pain for legitimate injuries - fraudulent/frivolous claims!
