I was in severe pain a while back, and after being checked by the doctor was told I had to go to hospital straight away for tests. She was about to arrange transportation by ambulance for me, but my husband offered to drive me there instead.

I was in 8th grade at the time, and the community I was in was doing a mass casualty type of drill. Every one in the music program (band and orchestra) could participate, because that was the ideal number of people the drill planners needed to conduct the drill.

I was triaged as a non-urgent injured. That was great - because we just hung around outside on a beautiful day, while the rest of the school was actually in classes. When it was appropriate for our "injury" we were transported to the hospital.

We also got to use "ugly" make-up, to make it look like we had burns, and open wounds.

Thanks for this memory...

Yep! And every time was while I was on duty!! One time was for a personal thing (ruptured ovarian cyst) but my Sgt. called the paramedics when I nearly passed out and threw up. He was a stubborn, old school kind of guy, so the whole female issue I'm sure was just way out of his league! LOL!

Then 2 other times when I got injured on duty. Nothing ever serious... 1. Slammed to the ground after a foot chase and fight with an offender. Hit my head pretty good, so they wanted me to go for X-rays. Plus it helped get the upgraded felony charges! And 2. when I lost my footing, again running to a call, and cracked my elbow on my gun! They thought I did something to the bone in my elbow, but thankfully I didn't.

However, funny story about incident #2. I was fortunate to be going to a call at Krispy Kreme, which I hate! But, apparently the fire department that we worked with, and where I knew a lot of the guys, thought it was "necessary" to send the ambulance, fire truck, chief, and I think 1 more vehicle!! They found it quite humorous to treat a police officer in the Krispy Kreme lot!! :rotfl:

Again though, very thankful that never for anything serious!

Twice - each time in pre-term labor with husband following behind. I had to be transported to larger hospitals. Had a great time with the paramedics each time. I tried to get them to stop at Olive Garden on trip (they wouldn't although they wanted to as well). On the first trip I need to go pee so bad but we decided not to use lights and sirens for fear we'd have to stop and pick up hubby after he had a heart attack wondering why we suddenly needed lights and sirens.

Once for a car accident in which I was hit head on. All I remember about the ride was that they put a heated blanket on me and it was so warm!

Once. I was hit by a car while crossing the street. Thankfully was not hurt too badly.

Myst

Once, when I was hit by a car from the side and pushed into oncoming traffic. We got to use the lights and sirens and everything.

I never want to do that again!

yes. repeatedly. and none of them were all that great a ride,, you would think a 80,000 dollar truck would ride better,,lol

Yes, I have been in an ambulance before but never as a patient.

My son drives one :thumbsup2

Once for me, and once with my son. I broke my leg, at a hotel, during a business trip. The fire dept came, then an ambulance took me to the ER. When my son was about 3 he had croup. We went to the ER in the middle of the night. After about 6 hours the transfered him to Childrens hospilta. It was about 25 miles away. I said I could drive him. They said no. It was $1500 after insurance!

No, thankfully.

Thankfully I've never been seriously hurt or ill. The worst things that I can recall are a broken leg at 2.5 years old, strained ligament in knee a couple of years ago from slipping on some ice while walking to class, and a minor car accident a couple of years ago in which I got some minor whiplash.

Once when I was about 15 after my family had been in a pretty bad car accident. A teenager in a big pickup rear ended us and pushed us into the oncoming lane. Thankfully there was no one coming to hit us head-on.

My brother and I were basically crushed in the backseat. Our seat was pushed forward and at the same time the front seat collapsed and pinned me. The headrest hit me square in the chest knocking the wind out of me, and my brother's left leg got stuck between the front seat and the box where the seatbelt retracts.

An off duty police officer saw the whole thing and stayed there with us. He was worried I might have broken bones and made me lie down, which I understand but it was cold and raining and I was lying in a ditch.

When the ambulance arrived they put a neck brace on me and then did the stupidest job of putting me on the backboard. Instead of rolling me onto it they slid it under me feet first, catching my skirt and hiking it higher and higher as they went and somehow wrapping it around the board. Then as they as they were putting me on the gurney I lost one of my shoes.

I was cold, wet, half naked and only had one shoe! Thankfully our worst injuries were only whiplash and bruises.

Twice first time I was 6 I was driving with my parents friend after school and she thought the traffic went and it didn't and she rear ended the car in front of us and my face hit the dash board knocking out both front teeth.

Second time, 19, I was riding a horse, it bolted, the reins broke, I fell off my foot got stuck in the stirrup. I had a compound fracture of my tibia and fibula, actually stuck them in the ground, it was bad!

twice, once I fell off a roof and broke both arms, yes BOTH arms. That was a FUN summer, and then once when a truck t-boned me while he was doing 60. I was also life flighted.. now for a million dolllar helicopter, I was afraid we were going to crash MANY MANY times! Talk about shakey!

Yes, just once and that was enough for me.

I was involved in a serious traffic accident when I was 19. I was riding home with friends after an away basketball game and a drunk driver pulled out in front of us on US1. I went from the back seat into the windshield head first.

I later found out that while I was in the ambulance, I went into shock and almost died. I ended up with a concussion, hairline skull fracture, swollen left knee, swollen right foot and 12 stitches in my head.

I'd rather not have another ride in an ambulance . . .

Yes, just this past January. I broke my foot at work. Since I work 2nd shift, our Medical Clinic was closed. Our Fire Dept(I work for Boeing) took me to the ER. I didn't get lights and sirens though. :sad1: I did call my DH from my cell phone on the way to the hospital to let him know what was up.

Yes but only once thankfully. Was in a car crash, guy in front of me slammed on his breaks and I didn't have time to slam on mine. Luckily wasn't going very fast but fast enough for air bag to deploy and crack windshield. They thought it was my head that did that so it was off to the ER for me. Sad thing was my parents were out of town so I had to get a close family friend to come take me home.

Yes both personally and in a work capacity!

Firstly my personal experience was after getting home just before midnight from work. DH was working nights and as I got undressed I noticed large lumpy swellings around the top of my legs and stomacha dn they itches like made. Knowing I was by myslef and my throat felt groggy I called the 24 hour National Helath Service help line, not wanting to cause a problem. After leaving details a nurse called me abck and went through a questionnaire. About 5 questions in she said she knew what was needed and didn't want to worry me but as I was alone she didn't want me driving and would call an ambulance. So I got taken by ambulance to the Emergency room and on the way called DH who immediately came from work to be with me. It turns out I probably had a reaction to penicillin that I had been taking for a throat infection!!

Secondly at work I went to a female who ahd fallen some height and needed to get to the hospital quickly but as it may have been a criminal matter I had to accompany in the ambulance to hospital, it was a rocky ride as we went on a ememrgency 'blue light' run! Sadly she died soon after due to severe head injuries :(
