Have you ever been carded while dining?

I would LOVE to be carded!! The last 5 times I ordered a drink at a restaurant I was not carded and I am starting to have a complex about it! We'll see on our next trip....

I'm 28 so I don't usually worry about ID anymore, and at Disney I always carry the bare minimum amount of stuff. Well this almost backfired one night when my friend and I were trying to get drinks at the Tambu Lounge...I'm pretty sure the only reason I was served was bc my friend is a city prosecutor and showed her badge to the CM to vouch for me! From now on I will always carry an ID at Disney. The CM said they are supposed to card everyone who looks under 40.

Yes, nearly all the time. I thought it was pretty standard for them to card everybody. I figured they had one of those policies where they card everybody who appears to be under 35 or something. Apparently my presumption was incorrect.

I hope you aren't offended by being carded. The laws about serving underage drinkers are very very strict.

I am not sure if they do this ever on Disney property but I was a waitress/hostess for 3 years at a chain restaurant and they have secret shoppers that will come in and order a drink to make sure you card them. If you don't card them you are handed a red card and fired on the spot. I have seen it happen multiple times!

Therefore I would always ask ID because I didn't want to lose my job. Like I said, not sure if they have these kinds of secret shoppers on Disney but restaurants and bars are very strict about asking for ID.

I was going bar hopping with some friends (who are about 50 - I'm 30) a few weekends ago, and I did not get carded. I didn't like that!

But aren't you only about 22? It isn't, at all, strange that you'd be carded.
At that time I was 25. Also I have never been asked to show ID when ordering a Beer in Toronto, no matter if it was at a restaurant or the Air Canada Centre. So I only have ever been asked when I am in the United States.

Sadly, no :sad1:. I'm 44 now, so I think my days of being carded are over!

I did get carded once at the grocery store when I was 35! Made my day! And I'm still telling the story 9 years later, apparently. :rotfl2:

When I was a cashier at Target about 11 years ago, I would card EVERYone b/c the computer would make me input their birthday. Of course, I never thought just to ask their birthday when they were obviously old enough.

I ALWAYS carry my ID with me. Then again, I have people think I look like a high school student (especially when I am not carrying around this extra 40 lbs and I am in theme park clothes-jeans, shirts, no make up, hair back)

Last November we had a reservation at T-Rex and I actually got carded for I.D.!

I was 35 at the time, with my DH who was 40, our two kids (6 and 8) and MIL.

Part of me was upset because I couldn't drink, but the other part of me was very happy... they actually thought I was underage! :lmao:

Trust me, I do not look underage! :rotfl2:

Has this ever happened to anyone else while at Disney?

While on my very first Carnival Cruise, it was 31 at the time, and my family and I were eating in the specialty restaurant, we ordered a bottle of wine. I was asked if I was 21. I told the server, I was 21 a decade ago. She was horrified and apologized profusely. I don't get upset, I do look young, but 21? Really? I'm well on my way to my 34th birthday and I still get carded. I just remind myself that if I look this young now, I will look FAB when I am old!

This has nothing to do with Disney Restaurants - but once my mom and I stopped in Rite Aid because she needed to pick up some cigarettes for my dad and she got carded. At age 54. We had a good laugh over that one. :lmao:

I'm 41, and I've gotten carded at the Food and Wine kiosks during the festival every so often.

It's funny because when I was 19, my mom and I were running late to a dinner at a relative's house for some holiday or another. She didn't want to park and go into the store for a bottle of wine and asked me to run in. I reminded her that I wasn't legal, but she was pushing me to try anyway.

I went in, and I even asked if they carried the specific wine I was looking for. They didn't card me. If they had, I would have made Mom go in.

Yes! This happened to us on our honeymoon at the Grand Floridian Cafe. We were having breakfast and our server offered to bring us free mimosas in celebration of our special occasion. A few minutes later she came back to the table, embarassed, and asked for our IDs.

Here is a picture of us from that breakfast, so you can be the judge of how old we look (I was 24, DH was 29). And we did get our mimosas!

I got asked for ID at Trex as well the manager came over to have a look at me (DH had his drivers permit on him me nothing) and said she was checking DH was not robbing the cradleand not in a funny way she was very rude about it. Not impressed I was 29 at the time. Being from the UK we only get asked if we look under 21 recently still the legal age is 18. I am now 31 and I have been told that I don't look much older than 25.

I don't mind getting asked for id but its the rude way they ask for it sometimes.

Do they accept a photo copy of your passport. I hate to carry mine around all the time in case it gets lost?

All the time, but I don't mind!! I'm a bartender and know the "anybody that looks under 40 gets carded rule." It really amazes me when people take offence to being carded, I take it as a compliment and understand that they're just doing their job.

The only time I was ever carded was at Disney! I'm not a drinker, but my son and I went to a cooking demo at F&W in 2009. They served two bites of cake with two sips of wine and the server carded me! It was literally a little medicine cup full of wine and he carded 38 year old me. My teenage son thought it was riot!

Carded? When I was 18 in 1987 I had my first glass of Guiness in EPCOT. I was at the Rose and Crown with my parents. The server asked what I wanted to drink. I said Guiness and the only thing she asked me was if I had good teeth because Guiness is a thick beer! My mom was too shocked to say anything and my dad just thought it was funny.

Wasn't I a stinker? Now I've got two kids (5 & 9) and I've got to worry about payback.

For what it's worth, I liked Guiness immediately.

One thing I have learned for every moment of my life is to ALWAYS carry ID with you. ALWAYS. Not just because of getting carded but for emergencies. I'll be like the very old American Express commercials and preach to never leave home without it. I tell that to my 77 year old mother-in-law who is a VERY independent person. I would hate for something to happen to her without ID.

This is one of my pet peeves so indulge me. We want our kids to have ID while at Disney World, why not us? You should also always include your medical insurance card as well.

I never thought of it that way, but then again we were just popping out for dinner (not going to a park). When we go to the parks I always have my purse or wallet with me. That particular evening I just figured DH had his wallet so that was fine. You do make a valid point though, you never know what can happen, and when/if an emergency pops up.

Never been carded while at Disney, but always get carded everywhere else. I carry my DL, Insurance card,Rx and World Card card in a small leather business card holder. I punched a hole in the corner and safety pin it in my shorts pocket. I even fold up a couple of twenties in it and away I go.
I have had it for 25 years and it still works like a charm.
