When we visit Orlando in May, we're heading to Disneys Vero Beach for two nights... How do you spend your days there?

DH is going inland fishing in Sebastian with my DB. Us ladies plan to tan while they're gone =)

Do you recommend any great restaurants in that area? I know the resort has some, but we'd like to try some local places.

Anything in town worth stopping in at?

THANKS

I did, awhle back. Didnt get too many responses, so was hoping others on here have been to that area as well =)

Wow, I'm surprised you haven't heard from someone yet. Seems like it would be a nice place to visit.

I'm a beach person, but discovered while at Vero Beach for a long week, that I'm more of a Gulf of Mexico beach person for the ocean person. Shopping, there is an outlet mall in Vero Beach. Didn't go there though, but I did go to the Vero Beach mall which was ok. Just to let you know that you have to rent chairs if you want to sit out on the beach. So if you can, bring your own. Spent most of our days at the pool and reading. I didn't find much to do there and I'm a pretty active person. Overall I was dissapointed, but that is my personal opnion before anyone starts flaming me. If you have any other questions, ask away!

We stayed there for a weekend a few years ago. The resort is just lovely and we had a very nice time there. We ate at the restaurant on site (I can't remember the name) and the food was good. We beached/pooled it one day which was a wonderful time to chill from the busy days at WDW. We also headed north and did Kennedy Space Center for a day <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/403.gif' border=0></a>(I would have rather stayed at the beach and pool for that day, but DH really wanted to go there). We also did the night campfire thing with the sing-a-long and smores and got eaten alive by noseeums.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/16/16_7_202.gif' border=0></a> I love Vero Beach and would love to include it every trip if I could.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/18_1_29.gif' border=0></a>

I went to Vero for the first time last May. It's a very relaxing place.

Besides the beach you can go kayaking or take various wildlife cruises along the waterways. On my kayaking trip I saw pods of dolphins up close as well as birds, fish and different plants and trees. Late May and June is the start of the sea turtle nesting season. Even when I was there several nests were in place.

Go to Hale Groves, near the DVC Vero Resort and pick up some fresh citrus fruits plus sample juices for free.

If you love seafood, the Ocean Grill was great IMO. The restaurant is right on the beach and lovely at sunset. The food was very good and meals are served with fresh warm sourdough bread. It probably about a 10-15 minute drive from the DVC Vero Resort.

I also went to see a AAA baseball game. Vero is home to the Dodgers farm team. A night there was less than $10 including the ticket, food and a beer. Parking is free and I sat a few rows from home plate.

Ocean Grill

Yes, I second the Ocean Grill. Great food.
Disney Vero Beach is a nice resort right on the beach. Very quiet. Has a great pool area.
Vero is a quiet, upscale area.

We visit Vero Beach every summer after our trip to WDW. My family and I really have become addicted to the place. It's just the right amount of relaxation for all of us and we have spent as much as a week there. This year we are going for 5 days so we are not planning anything but sitting on the beach and enjoying the pool and resort. When we went for longer, we did NASA and one year we even drove up to WDW for a day ( I do not recommnend that). The resort has two restaurants and a little snack bar on site and lots of activities for the kids including a campfire a few nights a week. I think it's a great family resort.

I go to Vero Beach almost every weekend! Of course it's only 45 minutes from where I live :) I usually go to shop though, not much else.
