Have to get this off my chest, was I wrong?

Seems a simple solution, everyone use courtsey - Maam, are you going to move forward, the line has moved - if she ignores or says no, then you go ahead and move forward.

Exactly. And when I stop to take photos and the line moves farther than a few steps I always tell people they can go by if they want to..the ride will still be there when I get there.

Both your party and her party (and presumably loads and loads of other parties) were WAITING IN A LINE FOR A RIDE. I have no sympathy for anyone who holds up lines. Get a clue and keep the darn thing moving.

Fascinating.

You people are willing to spoil at least one, if not two families' days (yours and theirs) stoking tempers, just so you can walk forward ten feet and stop, rather than wait where you are for a minute, then walk forward ten feet and stop?

Remember, we are not talking about first thing in the morning before the FP line opens and the standby queue does continuously move; we are not talking about RNRC or TT where they have two staging areas and guests are supposed to "move to the yellow line" or "fill all available space". We are not talking about anything that's going to delay the time you get into your little buggy by even one second.

We are talking about waiting a finite amount of time, and people getting grumpy because instead of spending twenty minutes of their lives moving forward at a constant rate of three inches per second, you are standing still for one minute, then moving at three feet per second for about five seconds, then you're back to three inches per second.

I personally don't think the OP did anything wrong because those guests who stop and take pictures over there should expect others in back of them to walk ahead. I can also say I saw others taking pictures in the Mr Potato Head area and it was frustrating because they held up the line, however some other people said either let us pass you or take the pictures and keep walking.

Up front, I will cop to having no context for this debate, since I've never ridden TSM standby and so haven't seen the line, but...

reading the OP, my immediate reaction was "of course it was ok to pass the picture-takers." And frankly, it's very surprising to me that people consider doing so to be "line-cutting." Until I read the rest of this thread, it wouldn't even have occurred to me that the OP did anything wrong. IMO, the photographer was clearly wrong -- once the line started moving again, she either needed to pack up her camera or let everyone else move forward.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume it's analogous to the new HM queue -- when we were there, we enjoyed the new interactive stuff while we were in front of it. As soon as the line started moving again, we moved on, too. When DD wanted to stay and play with the books for another minute, we stepped aside and the line kept moving without us. When she was done playing, we rejoined the line with no problem. All around us, people were doing the same thing, and nobody threw a hissy (neither the stoppers nor the passers).

Now, I wouldn't pass someone for a few seconds' delay. But from the OP, it sounds like we're talking more than a minute or two, and that it wasn't a matter of the line creeping up a few feet in the meantime. In that circumstance, passing seems like the only logical solution.

How is it holding up the line if the line is stopped again fifteen feet from where they were, and there is no chance they can't catch up before they get to the FP merge point?
Because when I saw this happening it was just after rope drop and there wasn't anyone in front of the people taking pictures, so that's how they held up the line.

I guess I'm weird, but when we stop in a line to take a few pictures, we invite people to go ahead and pass us.

I do that all the time if I have to stop to fish out money or my wallet or someone calls me on my phone and I'm in line. I don't make them wait behind me while I sort out my business.

I would say the HM queue example is different than the TSM queue, because by holding people behind me who were ready to move forward in the interactive queue at HM so my kid can play with the exhibits, I am allowing more and more people from the non-interactive line to get in front of them. Thus, I should keep moving or not expect people to wait while I play.

At TSM queue, I am not getting to the FP merge point one second later if the person in front of me snaps one photo or ten, because the line will stop again well before that point.

In this case, I see your point. Usually though, during the course of the day, no one's wait time is affected one millisecond by someone stopping to take even several minutes' worth of pictures. As long as they catch up before the magical FP merge, no harm done.

I'm certainly no <cough> "expert" <cough>, but I don't get how this is so hard to understand.

Then that's a different situation than what we are talking about -- there, I would agree people shouldn't expect others to wait behind them while they snap those photos because it may, in fact, cause empty cars to go through the ride and, thus, delay people behind me from getting on the ride.

Wow...they know who to get loud with and who not..I guarantee I would have walked past her and she wouldn't have said squat to me. If you wanna take photos fine I'm not waiting for you to take your pictures and if you wanna get loud be prepared for what's coming next :headache:

Although you may be an aspiring MMA fighter with a strong desire to showcase your skills, you may want to remember four little words of wisdom, and I quote, " There's always someone bigger."

I am the type who always wants to keep moving in line. I like to feel like progress is being made. So while logically I understand that I am not waiting any longer because of someone stopping for a bit, it still doesn't help me be more patient.

I wouldn't go past though unless it was rope drop. I'd just be screaming in my head, "HURRYHURRYHURRY COMEON COMEON COMEON COMEON COMEON COMEON IWANNAMOVE IWANNAMOVE IWANNA MOVE GOGOGOGOGOGOGO AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! JUST GO!"

I agree with this. Obviously the logic is that you still wont enter the actual ride any sooner but I also like to feel that SOME movement is going on or maybe people get tired of looking at whatever they are looking at in the line and are just anxious to get to the next thing to look at.
Of course, I'm too scared and non-confrontational that I wouldn't pass somebody taking photos and I have quite a bit of patience. But still....it is annoying to have to wait while people do a more extensive than normal photo shoot. It seems very selfish to me. I know when I take photos at a busy place, I just hurry along and settle and would never have the nerve to keep people waiting while I re-posed and re-did and re-shot every single thing.
I guess I fall right into the middle of who is wrong and who is right on this topic. I do get the logic of just hurrying to stand farther in line, but it does "feel" better and keeps kids less whiny if you are at least doing little baby steps of movement in the right direction versus standing and waiting several minutes for people to get crazy with their photos. Yet at the same time, I wouldn't have the nerve (because I'm a cry baby and sensitive and don't want to be yelled at) to pass the slow-poke obsessive photo taking family either.

As annoying as the situation may have been, I think I would have waited. If they were really holding up the line, like seriously causing people to not be able to get on the ride, I would have walked on. Walking up 10 - 15 feet would not be worth the person being ugly in line the rest of the way.

It's not hard to understand. People are just impatient, usually for NO reason. It's like the people I see speeding to a red light. It makes no sense.

Did you board the ride any faster because you went past? I'm guessing no....

I would have waited unless there was literally no one in front of you between PH and the FP merge point.

This example could also be used for the group taking the pictures.:surfweb:

Wow...It's just crazy to me that people are so intense about this.

It seems that posters on both sides of the debate agree on one thing...a group in line passing or being passed by others (while taking photos) end up more or less in the same general area when they get to boarding TSM.

So what's the big deal? Why call out someone on vacation and have to get a CM involved? Did they really ruin your vacation? Was it necessary to ruin theirs so you would feel better?

To the OP, no, you did not commit the ultimate Disney sin (line-cutting) and the person was totally wrong to call you out. TSM has one specific area where people really separate for family pics, and if they're taking more than 2 the CM's will push you along.
