Personally I dislike the lanyards, especially the folks who strut around with those Castaway Club badges like they are living out a real-life version of the Sneetches...

With the Magic Bands, its way more discreet and not show offish. Why do you need to walk around the ship making sure everyone knows how many cruises you have been on????

Ok, wow! I’ve never thought of my lanyard as a status symbol. I strongly prefer a lanyard and not the MagicBand because I have little wrists and the bands are big and clunky. I’ve always brought my own Chip and Dale lanyard from Etsy, but this last cruise I finally wore my Castaway Club one, why? I don’t know, I just did. I was so happy I did! Did I care what other cruisers thought? No, I loved it because the crew stopped explaining things I already knew because they would say, “oh you’ve sailed with us before, you know this” and that was actually so nice.

I liked the lanyards when they had just a plastic card holder at the bottom. Now that it's this huge plastic, dorky thing at the bottom, I'd rather not wear it, so the band is good for me. It's so convenient to just tap at our door. We are not big spenders so we're not constantly taking them off to buy stuff. IIRC, in the shops there was a place to easily tap our band that didn't require it to be removed. We've used them for around 4-5 cruises now and they still work well.
I think the drink servers should carry a portable device to tap our band when they deliver our drinks so that they don't have to leave with our bands and keep track of who's is who's.

We took our first Princess cruise last month. They given you a Medallion on a lanyard that has your name and sail date on it. No cards are used at all so it's also your ID for getting back onboard in port. You can also purchase a Medallion holder if you prefer it on your wrist. The only thing I loved about Princess was that if you approached approximately 6' of your door it would automatically unlock it for you so you didn't even have to tap anything. Not that I'd expect DCL to adopt this technology because it also had a touchscreen outside our door with our names on it and my photo would appear on the screen once I got close to the door and it unlocked. We could also activate the do not disturb or please service our cabin features through the touch screen so no hang tag to keep falling on the floor.
As a parent, that whole thing would bother me with little ones.

It's a little creepy too that we were sitting in a lounge and our friend ordered a drink and she didn't have to tap or give her cabin # or sign anything but the system somehow knew to charge her folio. She could view the drink charge within 2 minutes of her buying. This also happened with dh ordering a drink at dinner.

Neither did I. I don’t see it. I could care less how many cruises other people have done. I don’t even know what colors mean what.

We had those slider things-got them from Etsy. Those sliders saved us from losing bands on multiple occasions.
We use MB+ for the parks and I agree the slider things are so important! I ordered mine on Amazon and I saw in the park stores Disney actually sells them now too. A few times over the course of our visits I've looked down at my wrist and it had come undone and opened but the slider was on and kept it from falling off.

I am so used to my MB+ I can take it off and on quickly. My youngest struggles with the slider and taking it on and off. I can see how that was be annoying to constantly be taking it on and off. We also love how the MB+ interacts with random things lighting up! It's a big expense though and totally unnecessary. We happen to be local to WDW so that's why we bit the bullet and invested in them

This was helpful. DH and DS5 already have MB+, because they didn't have old MBs that functioned during our 2023 WDW trip.
It sounds as if DS15, DD11, and I will all be fine with KTTW and lanyards.
I might get a MB+ for DS8, just because I think that will be easier for him for the kids' clubs. I also try to keep things pretty much the same with him and the youngest.
My two oldest would probably rather spend money on other things.
