I booked up earlier this week, flights with Virgin, hotel through Dreams Unlimited with free dining. Now I am starting to wonder if I booked the right hotel. We are going for 16 nights from 24 Aug staying at ASM. I have been there before and found the hotel to be nice, clean etc but I am starting to wonder if I should have spent the extra and gone to a moderate resort. Normally whilst we are away the only time we are in the room is to sleep but this year because of the time of year I am wondering if we are going to go back and use the pool (we did do this last year but only because the parks we so quite that we got everything done much quicker than expected).

I think the price difference will be around £500/600 and I just wanted people who have stayed at both value and moerate resorts to let me know if it worth the extra money. Like I said we hardly spend any time at the hotel and £500 is a lot of clothes shopping when we are over there.

Hi
Could you enquire as to whether you could upgrade to a Moderate?

As I have only paid the deposit so far I think I could probably change. Will have to check with Dreams this afternoon due to the time difference.

I must admit, I have been having the exact same thoughts. We haven't stayed at a moderate before but we will be spending 3 nights at Saratoga Springs in a DVC studio at the beginning of the trip. I am also worrying that we will find ASMu a bit of a come down from SSR and was thinking of enquiring about the cost of upgrading to Caribbean Beach or POR - not sure, though, because this is supposed to be a budget trip and £500ish is quite a lot of money.

Hi!

With you being there for 16 nights, I think I'd really consider a moderate. IMO, the All Stars are great for a shorter trip, but if you can swing it $$$ wise, I'd upgrade. And I'd stay at POR, because it's my favorite mod. ;)

Good luck with your decision!

I always get the impression they cheaper hotels can be noisey with youth tour groups using them. Its just an impression, some of the things I have picked up on using these boards. Most of the US schools should be back.

But I'm a bit like you. The hotel is usually just for sleeping as part of our holiday, but sitting by the pool is more appealing to me in my 30's than it was in my 20's! I still find it hard to spend hundreds more on a hotel when I could be wasting it at the shops.

I was looking at the difference bewteen staying off site, or at POR. My wife (for some reason) doesn't like the idea of staying on-site (Disney overkill, I suspect). The difference in price was just over £800. The cost of a laptop or a LOT of Outlet clothes!

You could enquire.
I found ASM good last time we went, wasnt noisy etc.
I'd rather have the extra money towards other goodies :thumbsup2
But if you are having doubts,I would enquire and then make your mind up.

Hi
I was in this dilema last year so we did 7 nights at pop and 8 at the carribbean beach..I wanted to do this again this year but virgin wouldn't let us have th dining plan with 2 resorts but I had a quote from dreams and they did so it may be on option so you can have the best of both worlds. Its Disney and everywhere is magical anyway but it is nice if you have a couple of rest days to lounge around the hotel and with the moderates you have the recreation facilities like the surrey bikes etc.
You will still have a fab time  :rotfl: :grouphug:

If you can manage the money I'd go for the moderate. They are much nicer than the Value Resorts and at that time of year you WILL need to rest and relax more at the pool.

My personal favourite is POFQ, which is smaller, more intimte and has a great pool/slide.

I think everyone is different and likes different things. We used to think the hotel was just somewhere to sleep. But now I just love sitting on our balcony at Saratoga Springs and watching down town disney with a drink in my hand. I could just sit there for hours, before getting in the whirlpool bath to pamper myself before getting ready to walk to downtown disney to go for a meal or just soak in the atmosphere. I guess one day we may not even go to the parks!!! ...sorry I was just wondering off into my own little world.

back to your question

We loved both Port Orleans resorts they are beautiful. I love to go for early morning walks around the resorts especially as you tend to get up so early with jet lag the first week. The resorts are really important to us.

However after saying all of that I know other people are not interested in the slightest with the hotel.

Let us know how you get on with asking for an up-grade if that is what you decide. Go with you feel is best for your family. sorry for my ramblings

Susan

We stayed ASM on our 1st family trip. ds8 (then) & I loved it, didn't find it noisey & had lovely theming. DH was a little dissapointed, think he thought because it was Disney it would be more upmarket. He said he would go back now he knew what to expect. This year we are staying at POFQ. (we stayed in Dalmations block)
