Have any of you attended a Scrapper's Dream Event?

Good morning!

Do I understand correctly that you may punch out whatever you want on the machines (or cutters)? I could probably spend a whole afternoon just doing that! I don't think I'd have any other way to get all of those cut-outs for my scrapping without spending a lot of money otherwise, and I think the event might help me get a jump start.

Sweet Maxine...you are correct. You can stand at the one of the ellison machines the whole crop if you like. Your arm may get a good workout, LOL, but you can make diecuts to your heart's content!

The first year I attended, my friend and I made the mistake of waiting until Sunday morning to make our diecuts. The diecut area was packed. My friend worked the machine while I ran back and forth picking out the dies from the boxes.

The second year, due to the absence of so many because of the hurricane, I never really noticed people waiting to use a machine.

Nancy and Dale supply hundreds of dies and @ 6 machines. They also have every hand held punch you can think of using. There are also various other tools like a couple of the big paper cutters, fiskar circle cutters and light boxes for embossing.

I'd recommend to anyone interested in attending one of the SDV's to also start reading their messge board. The people that post can give you opinions and suggestions to help make your descisions.

We have heard that CKU is an awesome event. We thought about attending, but thought we would like to spend less dollars and be able to crop for the 4 days and only attend specific classes that interest us. Also, with SDV, you are not on a schedule except for those classes you choose and meals that they provide, so you can come and go as you please.

happylady, you are correct about the die cut tables being very busy on Sunday. I made the same mistake at my first SDV. I decided that I would do them late at night at the next one I attended, just to be so busy scrapping that I forgot and again before I knew it it was Sunday!

I have attended both SDV and CKU and from my personal experience, you really have no time to scrap at CKU. I read the boards over at Creative Keepsakes before attending and found out that most people go for the classes and the night time events and don't even bring their scrapbooking stuff. There really is no room for it there. Some people did go to the night time crops, but it really was more of a big get together with people getting together and having fun while the class instructors and some of the sponsors of the event give encouragement and socialize with the group.

If you are looking to learn some new stuff, attend a CKU. It is a wonderful experience. If you are looking to get work done attend an SDV. You will have all the time and space available to work to your heart's content.

Whatever your choice, you will not be disapointed IMO. I loved both!

Thanks happylady and American Scrapper for all your help with my questions. I think that sounds like just the thing for me! I don't have any of those machines to stamp things out with, and I would love to just be able to get ideas from other people.

Thanks again!

I had only been scrapbooking @ 5 months at my first SDV. I was kind of nervous, but also the type of person to "dive in the deep end". I even entered the page swap. I wasn't even sure what a topper was or an eyelet until a week before. My pages for the swap were okay, about the middle of the road...not the the best and not the plainest.

Everyone was so friendly. I would walk around and look at all the pages people were working on. I occasionally would stop and compliment someone....best way to get them to explain a technique they were using. ;)

My friend and I were lucky, fortunate, had the scrapbook gods looking down on us...to be sitting behind two great experienced scrapbookers....Milissa and Meghan from the west coast of Florida. They took us under their wings and continally showed us how to do different things. They would turn and look at our work, rummage through their things, and give us a perfect embellishment to complete our pages everytime. We nicknamed them " the teachers".

I guess I'll stop rambling since you've probably figured that I enjoyed SDV!!

happylady,

Your description of the SDV is exactly what my experience was - a great crop party and a learning experience from your fellow crop attendees. It is a really fun event! I loved the experience and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Just read that the registration is going to open on April 21 at 6 PM. YAHOO!!
