There's a company called Dream Events Inc that hold scrapbooking conventions all over the US. There's one scheduled at WDW every August. Just wondering if any of you had been to one before. If so, did you like it? Was it worth the money? I'm planning to go to the one this year, so all opinions are welcome.

I have attended 2 in Indianapolis with some friends that I met at CKU-WDW. It really is a good time. If you are looking to catch up on your scrapbooking, it is a wonderful weekend. I swear I only go up from my chair to do some shopping for stuff for my pages (they have a few stores set up there), and to eat & go to bed (at 2:30 am the first night and about 4:00 am the second night). They do raffels throughout the day and also a big one the last day for a free SDV weekend the following year. The do offer some classes, which I did not attend. They seemed to have some very cute projects though. They also do a page contest and a few other things.

That sounds like alot of fun but I doubt that they would have one way out here. I had to post about the beautiful picture in your sig line. That little girl is precious!

Lisa,

Here is a link to their site. http://www.dreameventsinc.com It is alot of fun. Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention, you get your own space assigned to you when you arrive. It is yours for the weekend and is a very decent size. You can keep your stuff out all weekend, no need to pack up when you are ready to go to bed. The people that run it go to bed about 12 or 1:00 am, but have someone there all night keeping an eye on things. I did clean up my space each night (or morning) just to have a clean space to start the next morning. Some people stay up all night. They also have the largest supply of die cuts! It is amazing.

As you can see, I had alot of fun. I am planning on going again this October.

I was just wondering if any of you have gone to the one in WDW? I suppose if I were to attend that one I would have to drive rather than fly.

I'd be worried my stuff would get seperated from me or lost even if it opened up while being (mis)handled :scared1: .

If you have gone have you made a trip out of it? I'd just be worried that if I were in WDW I would say the heck w/ scrapbooking  .

Where do you stay and where is it held?

Thanks in Advance. . .

Thanks Kathy for the info.

Thanks Lisa!!!

ForTheLoveofDisney, the one last year was at the Contemporary Resort. I have two friends that went and loved it. Granted they were in the middle of a hurricane, but they still loved it.
The location for this year hasn't been posted yet. When you pay to attend you can choose the big package which includes a room at the resort, or you can choose a seperate attendance package and stay some where else. We'll stay where ever the event is held.
If you look at the other events already taking place, the biggest package price is around 450.00. I don't think it's too bad of a price considering everything you get for it.
I know that we're definitely driving down in order to keep our "stuff" with us. I love scrapbooking, but I have to tell ya...I plan on visiting the parks a bit too!! :) Can't go to WDW without seeing Pooh.
Hope that helps!

Sure does help! Thanks much for the speedy response. I'm going to pass this on to my sisters (there is 3 of us so that would be great to split the costs of a room) too because we all love to scrapbook. We would stay where the event is being held also.

But, do you stay a few extra days or do you just take breaks and go into the park? Really, that's my biggest problem. Would I be able to concentrate on my scrapping? :p

Thanks again.

You're welcome!! LOL I doubt that I'll get a lot of "real" scrapbooking done in the four days. My main goal is to go..have fun..make a LOT of die cuts and punches..and visit the parks. I have two days left on my park hopper passes...might as well use 'em :p

The die cuts are definitely wonderful!! I kept saying that I was going to make a ton of different fonts & different things, and never did. I just seemed to run out of time. Go figure, scrapping all day and all night, a little shopping and the time runs out!! I don't know that I personally could go to the one at WDW because I WOULD want to go to the parks and would not get as much accomplished as I would otherwise. The thought of extending the stay would be a plus though. I did attend CKU at WDW and did extend my stay for a few days. My DH, DD, & DS joined me on Saturday night after CKU and we did the parks for a couple of days after (and joined DVC also while we were there!!).

to attend my 4th one. I love these weekends. I don't crop as much as I would like at home so this is great for me. I love the classes and getting ideas from other people. I usually go 2x/yr.
it's great.. you leave your stuff set up at your table (nobody touches anyone else's things) and it's there for you all weekend. It's amazing to me, how much stuff people bring.. including me.
Well, I need to pack for this now.

I wish they would have one close to where I live. I live in a small town in Texas and we only have 1 LSS but at least I also have a Micheals and HobbyLobby. Anyway, our LSS doesn't have a lot of classes that I want.

They run great cropping events with some nice classes. They provide all meals (which most conventions and CKU DOES NOT). The die-cut center is fantastic. The shopping was good. The fact that your assigned cropping area was a decent size and yours for the whole time was excellent. I definately recommend them for crops.

In terms of visiting Disney too - I would suggest adding a couple of days on to your visit to do that...

Kristy that looks like a lot of fun. Though Im not sure if I was at Disney that I could sit in a room and scrap, lol. I'd have a heck of a time staying out of the parks.

I've attended the last two SDV's in Orlando. They are FANTASTIC! We had a blast last year at the Contemporary...even with Hurricane Charley. I've lived in South Florida since 1972 and have only been on the outer edges of hurricanes...but this last year I got to go through THREE of them.

Dale and Nancy run Dream Events. They fought with the management of the Contemprary to allow us to stay in the ballroom and crop during the hurricane. No one wanted to go sit in their room and miss six hours of croppin'.

Not all meals are included in the cost. The first year the crop was at the Holiday Inn on International Drive and more was included. Last year only dinner Friday & Saturday and brunch on Sunday were included.

They are under contract to have the crop at the Contemporary in 2005 & 2006. They are also extending the crop an extra day, so it will run Thursday 9 AM to Sunday afternoon. The cost last year was $280.00 per person for a triple occupancy on the early bird package...three nights, crop space and the three meal. The rooms had two double beds and a flip out couch.

I meet a group on a yahoo message board specifically for the SDV in Orlando. They organized a secret pal exchange. The girl that organized it had her husband match everyone up and email info. He did it so that she wouldn't know who had who. Our picture is on the main page of Dream Events web site. It was great...all weekend little goodies would suddenly appear when you returned to your crop area. A couple of the other things organized by the yahoo board were a page swap and a tag swap.

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them.

Kathi thanks for all of the great info! Do you remember when registration was opened up last year and the year before? I keep watching the SDV site, just waiting to plug my info in :teeth:

If you don't mind me asking...is that yahoo group still around? I'd like to see all the stuff they're planning for this year.

Thanks again and I love your countdown timer!!

This looks like so much fun! I noticed there's one in Louisiana, which wouldn't be too far away from me. I haven't actually started my scrapbook yet, but I think it would be a blast, and I could probably really get some good ideas. I'm going to check into this!

Last year the registration was @ May or June. They had said that it was going to open last December, then it was delayed until January, now...who knows! LOL I've been checking every few days....waiting with my credit card in hand!

Here is the link for the yahoo group:

Good morning!

I've slept on the idea of going to this scrapping event, and I'm still very intrigued. It looks like it would be worth it to me just to be able to have access to the die (sp) cutters for scrapping. I'm just getting started, but the list posted of all the things you can punch out look awesome! Do I understand correctly that you may punch out whatever you want on the machines (or cutters)? I could probably spend a whole afternoon just doing that! I don't think I'd have any other way to get all of those cut-outs for my scrapping without spending a lot of money otherwise, and I think the event might help me get a jump start.

On one hand, a crop weekend at WDW sounds great....my dh would have no problem taking the kids to the parks so that I could have the time to myself. Then again, I don't think I can stand the idea of my dh and kids having a great time at WDW without me! I feel like I'd miss so much!

Its certainly something to think about! I also thought about trying the CK event in Orlando...but with the same concerns...would I rather actually be in WDW than at a scrapping event?

Lesley,

CKU (at the Gaylord Palms) is a class event - for your registration fee you get 11 fantastic classes, 3 parties/crops & get to meet scrapping celebrities. If you register for that, you will be too obsessed with the event to even think about Disney (they keep you very busy!)

There is a CK convention in Florida but I think that is in Tallahassee - that has good classes, evening crop parties, and a good sized vendor faire. You purchase everything a la carte and can do as little or as much as you want. The crops there run from 7pm-midnight (1am). They are fun - with different party games for prizes - but you have a limited amount of workspace.

The SDV is really a giant crop experience with some good classes and some shopping but the crop room is open 24 hours a day and that is the biggest focus.

Just thought I would give you an idea of the different events. :cheer2:
