How does he know that they aren't going to be saying "Drag your wretched bodies to the dead center of the room"?
You know, in general, I think the level of society has generally gone downhill in the last few years. By that, I mean, that society in general is far more willing to say or do inappropirate things for the "reaction". There is a general loss of propriety.
Well, folks, CMs are people too. If society in general is losing its ability to determine what is appropriate and what is not, then perhaps it stands to reason that CMs are too. Scripting things, telling your employees what they should and should not say, is a way to "control" the experience for the guest.
We here on the DIS are very quick to post a negative encounter with a CM. There is all sorts of uproar, commiserration, advice about what to do, who to call, how to handle it.
Disney is obviously listening, and is scripting to improve their guest experience, to avoid guests encountering the CM who says "There's nothing I can do about it" or "What do you want me to do? I'm on break". Do I think the world has become crazily PC in its reaction to "offenses"? Yes I do. Used to be that if someone said something offensive, you told them to shut the "heck" up, moved on and lived your life thinking that person was a *******.
That's not the way the world works anymore, society in general says more inappropriate things, people are also more easily offended by inappropiate things, and thus, we have scripting to control the situation. It's a vicious cycle. Now, if someone says something offensive, there are lawyers, the ACLU and numerous other people involved who are trying to get money to soothe the offended's "emotional distress".
I can't help but think we are bringing some of this on ourselves.
