This isn't a story about a character's background, but is one about the creation of the characters. It's from a great book we bought at WDW on the making of the Mansions and the Eddie Murphy movie about the attraction. I don't have it with me at the moment, and it's been a while since I read it, so some of the details may be off, but the gist is as follows: When the guys were designing the characters (I assume for the original at DL), they had a large room where they could test the animatronics. Evidently they had a lot of animatronics set up. At night, they'd shut off the lights and head home. One morning, they found a note requesting that the lights be left on because the cleaning crew was really freaked out by the place in the dark (I'm guessing the switch wasn't right next to the door). So, they decided to pull a prank and set it up where the lights were out and the switch would activate the animatronics. When they arrived the next day, they were told they'd have to clean the rooms themselves from now on because the night crew wasn't setting foot in there again!
