Anyone know what is up with Haunted Mansion? They should start the refurb immediately and not wait until after Halloween.

Today we rode HM four times at different times of the day. Twice the ride was stopped for at least 20 minutes. All four rides the ride stopped once or twice for a few minutes. I'm assuming these short stops were to load handicapped, but if that is the case they need to figure out a way to do this without stopping the ride, or only do this every 20 minutes or so.

lol. Can you imagine it being closed on halloween.

And with a continuous loading ride, the only way they are going to be able to load some disabled passengers is to stop the ride. and I think I can state they will probably not force disabled passengers to wait an extra 20 minutes to stop the ride.

I was on it a few weeks ago. To load (and unload) disabled guests took around 10 minutes. I was waiting in the load area and saw the car with the guests come around which is how I knew it was not a ride breakdown. Of course, it will vary depending on the needs of the guest.

Logistics wouldn't allow a 20 minute wait. The ride has to be stopped when the disabled guest approaches the end of the ride. So the longest between stops would be the length of the ride.

I personally love that ride so much that I ENJOY when it stops! I just sit there in my happy place smiling and singing along. lol Only time I didn't like it was near the end and I had to keep hearing miss creepy saying "hurry baaaaaaaaack" lol

I also welcome the brief ride stops; it gives you an opportunity to look at details easily missed in a normal ride-through!

I understand not everyone shares my view, and would prefer a non-stop ride every time. However, that's just not practical on an Omnimover without putting undue restrictions on guests with disabilities. Having to wait an extra 20 minutes just to avoid able-bodied riders having to pause in the attic (when the rest of the show is still on an endless loop waiting for them when they get going again) could hardly be called equal access.

just wondering what plans they have for a refurb?
this is my favorite ride and also don't mind the stops, especially if you are over looking the ballroom!

HM will be closed for refurb at MK between December 1 and December 19.

I hate it when the dark rides constantly stop. Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid and the Haunted Mansion are notorious for this. In fact I don't think I've ever been on the Little Mermaid without it stopping at least 2 or 3 times and I've ridden it probably a dozen times. I never imagined it was to let on and off handicapped people!

When the Little Mermaid ride was new, I was instructed to transfer from my ECV to a wheelchair. At the start of the moving belt, the CM said they were trying something different on that ride with handicapped guests. The CM instructed me to stand up, get out of my wheelchair, get myself onto the moving belt, hang on to the accessible ride car, and get myself in! I said I had balance issues and couldn't walk unassisted, but the CM insisted that I walk unassisted on that moving ramp! I refused. Another CM came along who slowed the ramp and pushed my wheelchair to the accessible ride car so I could transfer. (The second CM had the wheelchair waiting alongside my ride vehicle when I went to exit. Bless his heart.) I understand that people don't like the ride slowed or stopped, but a Disney employee risking a handicapped person getting hurt shouldn't be a trade-off. I've never been on that ride again.

I had to walk out of HM once. That was awesome. Now I want to walk out through the other side.

Most of the time, I enjoy being stopped to look around. Especially on HM!
However I think that sometimes the frequency can be a bit much but there's nothing they can do about it.
We got stuck on Spaceship Earth for almost 30 minutes in May. It was nuts... we would moved about 10 feet and stop over and over... and it was insanely humid inside the ride.
We took a nice nap for about 10 minutes though!:rotfl:

Logistically how does that work? If they got on, they have to get off when they are at the exit. I don't know exactly, but I think it is 3 handicapped riders are allowed on at the same time so there are enough staff to be able to get said riders off the ride in a serious emergency, so yes depending on how things are timed, you could potentially stop 6 times on any given omnimover ride. But outside of Splash where "Brer Fox and Brer Bear are causin trouble down river" we have never stopped that many times on a single ride.

On another thread I read that it's not a refurb, just a little sprucing up and possibly a photo op for the end of the ride. :earsboy:

FWIW they do make those of us with disabled in our group wait to load TSMM. BUT, you don't wait as long as even FP to get in to where you are waiting to load. That ride has a separate track for physically disabled to load, while HM doesn't.

It's weird, I always love it when Haunted Mansion stops while I'm on the ride. I don't know why, but it never bothers me.

Partly because I'm usually tired when I board it, so it's a nice break. Also because it's such an elaborately detailed ride, that if I'm not sleepy, I'm looking around to see everything I can.

I really wish they would start decorating HM in the World Nightmare Before Christmas style like they do at Disneyland for Halloween.

I have to disagree. Now, to be fair, I am not a big Nightmare Before Christmas fan. When we went to Disneyland, I was disappointed in Haunted Mansion and didn't like the overlay at all. I told my husband that the next time we go, I want to make sure it is when Haunted Mansion is in its original form. If they do that at WDW, as well, I'd have no desire to visit haunted mansion at either park from September through early January.

Noooooo-o-o-o!

This. Exactly this.

The Nightmare before Christmas overlay brings Christmas stuff into Halloween time. Yes, it's a scary Christmas movie, about scary presents, a scary Santa, etc, but it's still Christmas. I don't want anything Christmas associated with Halloween. The NBC overlay is why we won't go back to Mickey's Halloween Party.
