Haunted mansion and jack skelleton

Man, I was all over this until I watched a video of it. Holy cow it's not just a few little tweaks here and there, it's an entirely different experience. I'm glad they don't do that at Disney World.

HM is also my all time favorite WDW attraction. I was no NBC fan until I saw the layover at DLR. I thought it was fantastic, and couldn't believe how elaborate the layover was. While I much prefer the original, I'd encourage anyone to take a look at the DLR layover just for something different. BTW--the holiday IASW at DLR is also a treat.:earsboy:

I kind of like the fact that they only do it at DL. No need to homogenize the parks. It's kind of special to have an experience unique to the one park. besides, gives you a great motivation to get out to the other park!

HM is my favorite attraction anywhere as-is and without the JS overlay. It's pretty darn special. Sounds like you've already set her up to be disappointed in it, and that saddens me.

But the Haunted Mansion is special. I love the DL overlay, but I would never think that the HH in WDW is sub par. I think that your DD may be in for a world of disappointment if there is a predetermined definition of "special". I am not trying to be disrespectful, but one of teh problems with a Disney vacation is that there is already a hightened sense of anticipation, so if those expectations are ramped up even more, it is possible the trip itself will be a letdown.

I agree 110%.

My DD is the reverse--loves HM but NBC freaks her out.

The reason WDW does not do the overlay and DLR does is because of the different demographics they serve. Additionally, the NBC overlay takes weeks to install and remove, during which HM is closed. Since DLR serves more locals, it makes more sense to do there.

I couldn't have said it better...

I tried watching the movie before we went to DL last October and I couldn't get through it--bored to tears--but I still enjoyed the overlay. What I did not enjoy was the fact that they had already shut down IASW for their holiday overlay. I wanted to see it too in order to compare it to the version at WDW.

While I can't really explain it, I felt that way when we went to DL, that it was a local's park. They are very welcoming to non-locals but I just felt out of place. We're going to go back some February to see if we can master the place.

I agree. I've started watching it so many times, but I've never finished it. There's something about it that doesn't capture my interest at all, and I think it's kind of creepy.

^^^ This.

First time I went to DL they had the overlay up and I won't lie, I was disappointed. I had wanted to see how the DL version compared to the WDW version and it was all yucked up with Nightmare stuff.

No truer words were ever spoken. How folks can like that day-glow, cardboard cutout, to the 3 dimensional original, is nothing but a puzzle to me.:confused3 The same thing happened to me on my only visit to DL. Got there the day that they opened HM with the overlay...very, very disappointed almost to the point of angry.

My niece and I were talking about the IASW overlay today. She said that her parents always miss it because it is always in process when they visit.
I also love the NBC layover, but I realize that the length of time the attraction is down would not be acceptable in WDW.

.

I had never seen it, but was familiar with thecharacters because my family loves that movie. I finally watched the movie last year, and once was one time too many.

The whole "locals park" thing about DLR mystifies me. I've barely ever met a local there (except for the few that hang out here); most everyone we speak to during a vacation (last stay was 8 days) is from elsewhere.

They've gotten the overlay-placement down much shorter than it used to be!

I only watched NBC because DS and DH watched it over and over. After many watchings (or being in the room for it) I got used to it and don't mind it. (everything else by Burton is heinous to me, though...Frankenweenie's preview nearly made me physically ill) And since it's the only way DS will ride the ride (until October, when ahead-of-time bribes are in full force to get him on the WDW version so he can experience it as a 9 year old instead of a confused 6 year old) I love the NBC version for that very reason.

As for IASW however, good gravy, get Jingle Bells OUT of "my" ride.

There are many more millions of souls living within a few hours' drive of DLR than WDW. It's as simple as that.

I love both overlays!
As far as DL being a locals park I can say this: I live in so cal and on any given day my Facebook newsfeed is filled with my local friends (college, high school, work) visiting Disneyland, so there are definitely a LOT of locals visiting (myself included. I go almost every weekend :))

Holy crap!

I never saw it before. It looks like garbage outside. It looks like a giant threw up jack-o-lanterns on top of it.

I'm glad they don't do this in FLorida.

Nice visual! ;) I'll be in DL next week and that will now be my first thought as I approach HM!!

As Mesaboy said earlier, it's all about the demographics. The macabre sights of DLP's HM are still stuck in my head even though my last HM ride was at WDW. Here's hoping Jack and crew replace those visions in my head!

I think it looks awesome and very well put together. I could see being disappointed if that's you first experience with HM or the ride was shut down when you went. But for many of us who've ridden the attraction numerous times, it would be fun to see something different.

However, this is all opinion of course...and when it comes to disney, those opinions are pretty strong. :)

You and me as well. I know that it's just my opinion but the HM overlay at DL rots. :duck:

it's not scary at all, I don't know how anyone, even a child, think it's scary.

It may not be scary to the average adult, but I have read many, many posts of children who are happy to ride the coasters and are still very frightened of riding HM. I know that my younger DD was absolutely terrified when she rode it at the age of 6. Yet she thought nothing of riding Space Mountain. :confused3

My son rides all coasters at Universal, and loves Dr Doom's Fearfall, and he has had to be bribed to ride WDW's HM next month. I'm tired of missing it and/or going in shifts; the kid's 9 and made me do Fearfall with him...he can ride Haunted Mansion, darnit.

I experienced the DL HM NBC overlay in 2011. I was SOOO disappointed!! I thought it detracted not enhanced the attraction:crazy2:
