Originally i got a FP for Haunted Mansion for DS9 and myself. But then he said he didnt' want to go. My DD5 says she'll go wtih me, but I'm worried it'll be too scary for her. (I went on at 6 years and loved it, but she's a bit more scrared of things). But I'd love to go on it. Do any of you ever go on Haunted Mansion alone? Also, how long is the actual ride if I want to meet back up wtih my family afterwards?

I've never been through the queue and Stretching Room alone, though I'm certainly not adverse to it. I have enjoyed a Doom Buggy all to myself, which is pretty nice.

I went on it alone Friday night in the last five minutes of the Halloween party--there wasn't anyone within 5 Doom Buggies of me. The ride itself, from Stretching Room to exit, is maybe 7-8 minutes long.

I've ridden in a buggy by myself but never waited in line alone; no biggie really. Hard to say on hard long the actual ride is because it does make frequent stops to allow for loading/unloading issues.
Both my kids have been riding it since they were small ( 2 for one and 18 months for the other) and have never been scared of it. Have you shown clips of it to the 9 year old? Maybe seeing some video of it would make it more doable for him?

My DS9 has been on a typical amusement park haunted house and was not amused. :lmao: So he's totally not interested.
I did try to show a clip to DD5 but it's hard to see as it's dark. She is cute how she'll say "I'll come with you mommy" but then asks if its scary.

One question...I've heard that the stretching room is the real scary part. Is it true that you can skip this and go right to the buggy?

I've ridden Haunted Mansion alone plenty of times. But I'd never skip the stretch room. That's one of the best parts IMO.

I'm pretty sure there is a bypass for the stretch room. Ask the CM when you enter the house. I don't think you go right to the doom buggy, but rather you wait elsewhere until your "group" finishes the stretch room, then you rejoin the group to approach the actual ride.

I like to explore MK alone, DD is 17 and some times MK getting boring for her after a while. She will head off and then I finish MK myself.

I love Small World, but no one else will go on it with me, same with Peter Pan, Little Mermaid and Hall of Presidents.

I love Haunted Mansion and rode x5 during last years MNSSHP while DD and DH got something to eat.

. Yup, just tell the cast member you don't want to do the stretching room and they send you through to the handicap entrance and then you get right in line for the buggies. We skipped the stretching room on our trip when DS was 2 as I think it is the scariest part but last year when he was 3 we just did it all (whispering in his ear "here comes the fun scream and dark part" and all was good).

That might be an option for your 5 year old - the ride itself isn't that scary if you are prepared. But the ceiling thing in the stretch room bothered me as a child.

THe thunder and screams in the stretching room is really the only fright...DD did it at 7 and had no issues...in fact it was hard for us the first time to even notice what was hanging above us in the room. It isn't a ride for 2 year olds, but really is pretty tame.

Whether or not you can skip the stretching room is 100% at the discretion of whatever Cast Member happens to be on duty at the time.

Because of my visual disability, it's actually unsafe for me (and for the people around me) to walk through the stretching room, but Cast Members still routinely refuse to allow me to skip it no matter how much I explain it to them, beg and plead, or ask to talk to supervisors.

Even in the days of the GAC when I had the visual disability stamp, Guest Services said it was up to the CM and they wouldn't interfere.

So, you can ask, and you might be allowed, but you can't go in counting on it as a guarantee.

Less than 10 minutes I'd assume with the ride and walkthrough if you can walk on pretty quickly. I've been on it a few times alone, it's actually pretty freaky. Definitely get a better experience going alone I think.

With the hitchhiking ghosts, you're never really alone in Haunted Mansion, are you?

When my DS was 5 and rode it for the first time, he screamed, "There's no way out!" in the stretch room and climbed his mom like a spider monkey. Everybody laughed...even he laughed a few moments later. It was the highlight of our trip, and to this day he loves Haunted Mansion.

I've ridden it dozens of times by myself. No biggie at all. :)

We were spending a day at MK with my cousin and his children many years ago.The youngest was 3 and did not ride it. But the 5 yo and 8 yo did. My sister asked the 5 yo if he would protect her from all the ghosts. He looked at her (like she was an idiot) and said, "They're not real.". It just depends on the child in question. If you know ahead of time when the lights go off, just scream and then laugh, all should be well. It only lasts a couple of seconds. As far as riding alone, it's fun too.

All the time. I'm afraid I don't see why it might be an issue for an adult to ride it alone.

If your 5 year old is saying she will go on then I would let her. We have always had everyone ride it from infant to adults. We tell them the stretch room is all Mickey Magic and if they want they can close their eyes. Worst case scenario the 5 year old may be scared on the ride but you can hold her tight and have her close her eyes till it's over. I'd give her a shot to show how brave she is!

I do several solo trips to WDW each year, as Hubby is not an addict like I am. With that said, I ride ALL the rides by myself - and I think it's GREAT! Especially with the Haunted Mansion - it allows me to sit back and really take in the details in each scene.
