Re the photos, I don't know that I find them "offensive," so much as just gross. Same as how I feel about those Discover Channel shows that give you a bird's eye view of surgery, in great detail. For people who find that educational, have at it; I'll pass. Photo carrying - in the absence of other jack*** behavior - falls into the "peaceful protest" category in my book, and is therefore acceptable. Potentially annoying and eyeroll inducing, and I would certainly hope that no one who needs an abortion would be put off it by a squicky picture, but acceptable.

Only to terrorize when in the hands of an idiot who thinks that yellow and frightening women as has been described repeatedly on this thread.

Outside of that--it is to educate. Some women don't know what they are aborting and follow blindly the thought they they are getting rid of a clump of cells. They don't realize how human that clump of cells really looks. If you can look at the pic (or your ultrasound) and still abort...then so be it. It is those who have no idea what they are aborting that is troubling.

Think about this--people supported the Vietnam War--until it became the first "televised" war in history as recorded images were shown on the news each night...that had never happened before. The average person saw what war was really like....then public opinion changed. It was terrible for the Vets b/c as they came home they were personally held accountable for carrying out their missions with good intention.

Everyone says we should be open minded about the legality of abortion--planned parenthood is there to help young women. To not educate them on what is inside their body when they are pregnant and seeking abortion is terrible. Women should be fully informed so that they can make a full and complete decision with all of the information. Since PP doesn't tell them....the pro-lifers do. And some share those images in a good way, and not a terrorizing way.

I recently read an article in "Self" magazine about these so called pregnancy "counseling centers" in which the personnel bully women into not getting abortions by shoving religious literature at them and showing them these pics. They are imposing their beliefs under the guise of "education and counseling" The scary thing is that these places get gov't funding.

The irony is that those nasty pictures would have the reverse effect on me rather than the desired effect. The pics would reaffirm that I wanted to abort. I'd be thinking, "Get that nasty looking thing out of me NOW."
