Has your town ever run out of water?

According to the town supers. we only have a 267 day supply of water left.

What happens if we run out--besides the obvious?

Maybe now would be a good time to stop all the building of new homes/apts. around here!

Blondie we have been on highest alert since May. It kills me that they have just built two hotels in our town, and we have a new office building all built w/in the last 6 months in the middle of all this. Plus we have ofcourse had new homes. The fines here are very steep. With all this heat people had to pay a service to fill pool. Lawns and gardens are dead, cars can not be washed and no sprinklers for the kids...yet they keep building. I know where you are coming from...gets me so angry!!

When I lived at home we ran out once, but that was because we had a cistern...For $18 got a load to hold us off temporarily..:)

Our supply is running very low. We are now having a problem with new sinkholes. Not a good sign.

You must be close by Blondie. We are on mandatory restrictions now and surrounding areas could run out if we don't get some relief soon. Our resevoir is down so far it actually has a dirt bank right now.

Our city is making me mad because we aren't on mandatory restrictions yet. The water levels are so low, and we've been in a drought for 5 years. None of the people who live on the lakes have their boats in the water any more. Most of them had to bring them in last summer. We're evidently not about to run out of water in the next few months, but there's no telling when the draught will end. If it ends up lasting a few more years, they're going to regret not making restrictions mandatory sooner.

We have had no rain this summer and hardly any snow last winter but have tons of water. I'm curious - where do you people live that you run out of water so quickly?

Here in Colorado, they say some communities will be out of water by September 1, that's next week. We've only had a little over 5" of water all year. We are on mandatory watering restrictions, and have been all summer. The greenways and golf courses are all brown. They say most of the grass that's died this year, will not come back next year. We'll need 5 years of "normal" snow fall to catch up. This is so sad to see, everything being so brown. On top of that, we still have forest fires raging, and that takes a lot of water. :(

I live in Central Virginia. We already have a deficit from hardly any rain or snow last year, so our levels are dangerously low.

Since we haven't had any (measurable) rain this spring/summer either, there's nothing to replenish what we keep taking out.

Records for this area say it's the worst drought since the 1930's.

Several towns in my area are dangeously close to running out of water. We ran out of water once and it was a nightmare - eventually we got some rain and they wound up redistricting the water supply

So even though I live in Attleboro, I actually use Mansfield water.

Things are just as bad here in S. Central Pa. Ponds, streams, lakes and resevoirs are shrinking fast--not to mention wells. My lawn is effectively dead now--. Even some trees are losing leaves in an attempt to save themselves. Farmer across the street just lost his entire corn crop--for the second year in a row.
Our local paper has a whole page devoted to the "crisis"(and it is just that), with mandatory restrictions, water saving tips, etc.
And on the next page are all the new building permits for a new motel, 3 business establishments, and 174 new townhomes.
Absolutely incredible!!

I hear ya Uncleromulus, they just keep on building subdivision after subdivision. Where do they think the water needed to supply the families is going to come from?

The Rappahannock River in my area is virtually void of all recreation because it's too low.

We are also on mandatory water restrictions.

With all the leaves changing color early due to lack of rain, it's starting to look like fall. :(

I'm worried about the same thing here in Richmond, Blondie.

I live in a county where we get our water from a reservoir so we have been on restrictions for close to a month. The city, who gets their water from the James River, is now on restrictions. There are places where you can walk across the James River and not get wet over your ankles! Scary!

Now we are having trouble with the shrink/swell soil in our county - since everything is drying up, the foundations on houses are cracking :(

Hope we get some rain soon.. I hate to see all the trees turning brown.

We live in the county and are not supplied by the city. We have a deep well, but we still watch how we water. I really do not care to pay someone to dig another well.
