Has this ever hapened to you? You get back from WDW and

Even worse than that, It's that the antibacterial craze is making bacteria evolve into superstrains that are harder to kill off.

Regular soap should be used for regular use, and the anti-bacterial soaps kept for special needs, like when someone in the household is sick.

What is terribly frightening is that some of the stronger antibacterial ingredients are building up in the water supply! Yikes!!!

Its hard not to think we are not really screwed! - Sorry, this stuff is not very fun to think of on a Disney board!

when i was little, i got oral thrush when at wdw. my poor dad had to stay in the room with me because i was really sick from it!

i know about the resistant bacteria... last year i got an infection and it couldn't be killed with the normal antibiotics that are used. i had a mutated strain of e.coli, which luckily was killed off with a 14 day dose of another antibiotic. really scary situation for me.

wow. that is a scary situation. any idea where it came from? my first idea is beef, then foreign fruits and veggies. mayo is another susupect.

We arrived home late Monday night (blame Wilma!) and I was sick for the last two days of our trip. I'm heading to the doctor tomorrow -- I'm worried that it may be pneumonia. But I don't blame anything except my Disney commando husband!!! If we're going to be at the World, then we'll be there as long as possible!!

Truthfully, I think its because we all try to cram too much into too short of a day, we're exhausted and those darn little germs know it!!

i'm not sure. i was living in nj at the time and i researched about the resistant bacteria on the internet a lot and apparently there were some reported resistant strains in nj. i'm assuming that's where i picked it up. not sure how though. my doctor was shocked when she reread my initial lab results and said she never had a case of resistant e.coli before.

I think it has more to do with the way we all seem to run ourself ragged while we are thre. I know from experience everytime I have gotten sick after WDW is when we have done nothing but rush rush rush. Not getting enough sleep, wearing your body down, being over exhausted, topped with the crowds and germs that are bound to be in a place where that many people come together, will make even the healthest person sick. I've noticed that now since we live in here and can come and go as we plase and take our time etc, we aren't getting sick from WDW.

It's settled then... the only way to avoid getting sick is to never leave WDW!! Fine by me!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'm in on that too! :goodvibes

I think this is a big key here. When on vacation, we get run down and weaken our system by doing so much in that little time period.

This is why we should always FINISH our regiment of meds when sick, not stop because we feel better. We really need to stop that being our our Dr thing.

I did this last trip and it was the first time it happened to me. I honestly think it is because I wear my immune system down because we are always go go go. Its not much of a relaxing vacation when we go to the World. We aren't commandos but we are always doing something :)

My family of 4 was all sick with bad colds when we returned. I think that for us, it was sharing drinks a few times during our WDW week. One got the germs, and we all shared them!

Yep. In 2003 I came home on the plane feeling crummy and ended up with a sinus infection. In 2004 my mom got sick halfway through the trip and ended with with bronchitis. I think it's a combination of the high humidity and going in and out of the air conditioning.

Yes, back in 2003 I came home and the next day had to go to the doctors because I had an ear infection. She said it could be because of swimming and then flying in the airplane :confused3 I don't know, but it hurt! :grouphug:

We got back Sunday night. Hubby is in bed this am with a fever and sore throat. I woke up stuffed up with a headache. So far the kids are the ones that seem fine. Let's hope it stays that way.

We have never came back from Disney sick. Maybe that is a bright side for having to always go in the Summer when the cold and flu season has not started to kick in. However, I used to live in Hawaii and had to fly alot I would say over 50% of the time I would get sick after flying.

exactly! i couldn't agree more. people think they are all better and bam! something mutates which then can cause a problem for someone else. like everyone else said too, it's a major problem when people use that antibacterial stuff for everyday use. some germs/bacteria are just meant to be around and when we start toying with the ecosystem, that's when problems happen.

We went to WDW in May 2004 and drove down there and with in 3 days of leaving home, my poor hubby was sick with a severe sinus infection. Fast forward to this year....February 2005, we flew to WDW. Four days later, he was sick again with a sinus infection. Different season and different method of travel. He believes that his is allergic to something down there that we don't usually have here in Arkansas. Our family doctor has told him to come in the office before the next time he travels and get a steriod shot and allergy shot to help keep him from getting sick. We will try this out in December and see if it works. Oh, how I hope it works!!!!!

I got a throat infection, a 364 days ( yep, exactly one day from being a year ) apart.

Last year, tonsilitis....
This year, tonsilitis.... The nurse at the Buena Vista Urgent was like "I reccognize you, have you been here before?"
I responded "Yeah, probably around a year ago, I was here for the same thing"

She pulled up my records "Oh wow... Yep, a year ago tomorrow!"

Just back from WDW late monday night... to the Drs. this afternoon, and yep, it is pneumonia. I swear those germs know who to get!!!

I came home from our last trip this past August and came down with "something" the night we arrived home. 4 days later I found out I had Mono! I probably "had" it for a while before it materialized but I was very happy I didn't get sick while I was there!
