Has Maleficent been removed from Disney's Villain Roster????

Disney just put up the Villains Unleashed guest list and Maleficent is not on the list!! That's kind of odd!! I just told Yellowstone Tim the other day that I don't believe Maleficent is a villain anymore....now that we know her side of the story. I know Disney said other villains not on the list will be there too....but why leave the most popular villain off of the list????

As we shared earlier this month, “Villains Unleashed,” a new, separately ticketed event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, will feature more than 50 Disney villains. Villains will appear at the event in several different ways, participating in character greetings, stage shows, and more.

We just got a sneak peek at a portion of the invite list. Many more villains will be on hand at the the event, but here’s a few names you may recognize. (Entertainment is subject to change!).

I could see her not being on their anymore because of the popularity of the film, and like you mentioned we know her side of the tale. So maybe she will not be seen as a villain as much anymore. Just a guess though.....

The wicked queen from Snow White isn't listed either. Any list that we saw BEFORE this was just speculation. This list, as the Disney person said, is just a partial one.

But- Disney did put up a picture of the wicked queen over the partial list. You do make a good point though. Maleficent is the most popular villain- so she would be a huge draw....maybe it's a surprise. I will be watching it all closely.

I would still consider her a villain. Although I loved the movie and I empathized with her.

Are you going? I am! We had to cancel our SWW over Memorial Day so we're doing this now instead.

Well, at this point it would be contradictory to have the green Maleficent when you just saw Angelina Jolie at the movie theater. Next year, perhaps. Who knows. I think it's funny that Meg is still part of the villain repertoire.

I think she is still a villain. Only the original story counts in my eyes.

I haven't had a chance to see the new movie yet and probably won't see it in the theatre since I've got surgery next week.

I'm glad I didn't pay to go to this villian event. Even if this is a partial list, most of the villains listed are ones I've seen before.

They consider Meg a villian, and she wasn't villainous at all- she's pretty much the heroine of the film (che chooses not to trade her freedom for Hercules). I mean, the only reason she worked for Hades in the first place was to save her boyfriend! And once she sold her soul, she was kinda trapped. It's bizarre to consider her a bad guy.

So even if Maleficent isn't really a villain now that we know her back story, it is no reason to remove her from the list.


(Personally I think they left her off the list because there is maybe only one Jolie-Maleficent actress, and while "subject to change" they don't want to promise what could possibly not happen. It would make a lot of people mad.)

Here are the villains children in Disney's new TV musical called "Descendents" ---- they are portrayed as bad misunderstood but singing kids!! Maleficent's daughter is in purple.... The Evil Queen's daughter is in blue ..... Jafar's son is wearing the cap and Cruella De Vil's son is wearing red!!

Here are the dolls!! I believe Disney is going after Monster High with these!!

To me Maleficent will always be a villain. She has been referred to as Disney's most evil villain and I see the animated version and the live action version as two separate stories.

A) 'Preview' of a 'portion'. Not 'Here's the Full List, People, Go Crazy.'

B) Re: Maleficent, they're probably deliberating green vs. Jolificent. I may not like the film, but for a meet and greet I prefer the humanized version to the green as their prosthetics are usually crap/falling off/not attached or blended well.

I'll be at the event so I can report back to you, but these are most likely the cases.

I can't see them changing the Fantasmic show to support a change to the character. If so, they would have to do it more creatively than the movie did, unless they want to turn Mickey Mouse into the villain.

There used to be two versions of Cruella de Vil- animated and live action( Glen Close version). Both were in the parks and there were a lot more similarities between the two 101 Dalmatians than Sleeping Beauty vs Maleficent. I agree that both versions should be used while they're promoting the new movie.

Ok, Maleficent was, is, and always will be evil. The new movie does not show "her side," but it creates a completely separate story. The original, (and IMO, correct, haha) King Stefan was a loving, doting father. Aurora was raised by Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. And Maleficent had no relationship whatsoever with the princess, and was indeed killed by Prince Philip. I honestly wish they had changed Stefan's and Aurora's names for the new movie so people wouldn't try to "change" the story. It's a lovely movie, but is not a prequel or other side.

Ok, off my soapbox!! Can you tell I'm a little upset that they messed with my story!?!? Lol!!!!

THIS!!! I was worried my best friend and I were the only ones who couldn't stand what they did to the original story! I absoultley hated what they did to Stephan, and especially the three good faires - they were like drunk idiots in the Jolie movie, and they are my favorite characters from my favorite movie ever!

As far as the bash, I wish I could go to this - I think it will be so much fun, we tried to go last year when it wasn't hard ticket, and had to leave beacuse it was so chaotic and there really weren't a whole lot of characters that we didn't see at MNSSHP anyway. I'm sure Maleficent will be there - she is crazy popular and fabulous! The hyenas though??? OMG! Would LOVE to meet them! I love that they have more uncommon ones! Would love to see Medusa - I doubt she even exists, but she is my favorite villain or how about Don Karnage from Tale Spin?? So excited for you who get to go to this! More villans and less crowds!
