we noticed last week alot of things neglected at splash.
1. the outside water cannons not working
2. the outside birdhouses that usually sing-not working
3. the little outside waterfall on your right(when you are in the boat)-not working
4. the 3 hanging, singing possums-only one working

what is the deal, we were deeply disappointed and embarassed(for Disney) that this ride was in such shape.

1. This is not broken, for some odd reason they choose to not run it some times. I have been there with it working one day not, the next, working again the following day. Its really weird.
2. Yeah, I have noticed some of those not working as well. That has been an ongoing problem.
3. For some reason this has been turned off since they started and now finished the painting project. One reason I heard was guests complained about getting wet from being stopped by the waterfall. On a water ride, yeah doesn't make sense.
4. I have not noticed this. Must be a recent thing.

Not sure about the other things, but the waterfall and water cannons are turned on and off depending on the temperature outside.

We noticed these same things about Splash Mountain. Last April, our kids went nuts over the great big jet of water that comes out of Splash Mountain and splashes all over the bridge. We were eating lunch at Pecos Bills cafe outside and watched it for awhile. The kids noticed that the big jet splash came once every three "logs" going down the mountain. It was a warm day and there got to be a BIG crowd on the bridge, so big that no one could hardly get across it. They promptly turned off the big cannon and just used the small cannons of water.

We were just there again Nov. 10-13 and noticed that the music at the top was different, much quieter and no singing. The waterfall wasn't on, but they were doing the big jet splash every three logs. I will agree that it is probably temperature, maybe crowd related as to what features are "on" that particular day. We really missed the waterfall-do you think people complained that they got too wet? We hope not! It added a thrilling element to see if you would get stuck at the waterfall!

Other "broken" things in Splash would include the animatronic B'rer Rabbit that hops alongside the log. He wasn't working in Sept 03, wasn't working March '04 and worked only the first day of my trip in Oct '04.
Also, in the laughing place, the little fountains that would hop across the water were no longer working.

I am sure the hurricanes damaged a lot of small things that will take a while to fix.

I was at Disney in February and noticed some of the same things. What was unusual to me is that Disney had even turned off the water going down the big drop at the end of the ride. That just seemed totally wrong to me.

I think there are two reasons for turning off Splash Mountain's water effects. One is the outside temperature. It's fun to get wet when you are hot but not as fun when you are cold. The other consideration is whether or not Orlando is experiencing drought conditions. I believe this happens fairly often and Disney tries to conserve the water it uses when it can.

I noticed that the music was missing from the birdhouses last week too! I really missed that. Hopefully, it's just a hurricane damage remnant and not indicative of a maintenance problem.

I don't know about now, but in Feb the splash was truned off because they were in the middle of painting the outside/ They would stop right before it would open and I think they were worried about the water hurting the paint...
