Just been over on the rental boards, there seems to be absoulutly loads of people asking to rent yet hardly anyone out there with points to offer for rental. Has the word about been able to spend value money and get a delux spread, I can imagine it has, given everybody who dos it probably tells their friends and family and plenty of people finding out themselves via the internet. Do you think this will finally get prices moving in an upwards direction?

If demand exceeds supply - then it's a reasonable bet that the cost of what is available will go up :)

It is possible, but there are real constraints on how much those points are worth. It all depends what the rest of the lodging market is doing, and in particular, what Disney is doing.

With all the commerical renter talk, I think rentors will be looking for large point required reservations. This would limit the number of reservations they make. Leaves less points for the small trip people.

Or look for rentees that want bigger units(1 or 2br).

It looks like the word that is out is that this is a "low cost" way to do Disney. I'm seeing people over there looking for ressies, but saying they "can't afford" $11/point. Looks like some pretty unrealistic expectations. Kind of sad, really.

Or it would really make my princesses day if we could only pay $10/pt. Or it might be my MIL's last trip, she's going downhill fast, so we can only pay $9/pt

Or I'm a long time renter. Hope to purchase DVC soon. Looking to pay $8-9 a point.

What is totally amazing to me is the number of people who are really thinking they can get reservations for March and April (Easter week yet) at this point in time. The other thing is that some of the people offering points or a reservation have only a couple of posts. One even says that the reservation is locked in for 7 days and can't be changed to 5. Could that be a II exchange? Either they don't know how their DVC works or are trying to rent a trade or maybe they rented for that time and are now trying to re rent it. At any rate there are some major unrealistic expectations out there.

I was thinking they didn't want to mess with the points left over so they said it couldn't be changed. They might be past their banking deadline. And they will make more money with a 7 night reservation vs a 5 night reservation.

They can and probably will get that time. Spec. bookers have those weeks pre-booked. They lurk boards like this dropping pm's to those looking. Those people will likely get what they want albeit at a premium.

I agree as that is what I first thought but then would have thought they could have just said they prefer not to shorten the reservation not that it can't be shortened but might be able to be changed from Sat-Sat to Sun-Sun. I think you are most likely right about the banking deadline which would explain it and the money is definitely an issue.

If that amazes you, how about looking for Xmas/NYE rentals in early December. "I really want to suprise my 8 yr old daughter(really reads wants to hardy-har-har my own friends and daughter's friends' mothers), but I want to pay $9/pt.

Looking for Dec. 24th - Jan. 2nd 2007-8, relative is about to have a brain and heart transplant so I can only pay $5-6/pt. ;)

Just for fun, I was working up some figures on AKV vs. AKL.

Goal: Add on 3 days to my upcoming stay in October (20-23 or Sa-Tu) in a studio Savannah view.

Disney's CRO quote: $1,130.64
AKV DVC points: 56 pts (at $10pp=$560 at $15pp=$840)

Geez, even if I pay high rates for my point rentals I'm still saving money in the range of $300-500. No wonder renting has gotten so popular.

The same room in the current hotel DVC exchange chart is 125pts for a Savannah view room at AKL.

AKV is gonna be a real bargain for renters.

I just read one on the R/T, I am helping a relative book their honeymoon! Number one, I sure wouldn't let any of my relatives outside my mom or dad make any travel arangement for me(they knew what they were doing) and I sure wouldn't want to be taking a chance renting points(that's why I had a small wedding and spent the big bucks on the honeymoon.)

But I am a big fan of Meryl Streep's movie Out of Africa, and this is as close to Kenya as I will get, can only pay $8/pt, maybe $9 for a Savannah view.;)

You must be rich! I shudder to even begin to think about paying more than $6/pt. at AKV! It's so far out and nobody likes it! It's like a dump, so they should always rent it to me for less ;)

I know we're being silly, but I never did understand why AKL goes for so high a CRO rate. I've wanted to stay there for years but the price is just outrageous. I guess that's why I'm thrilled AKV is coming. It'll finally give me a chance to stay there without giving my wallet monetary arrest.:scared:
