Has Disneyland ever not sold blockout tickets at park opening?

So rumor is that World of Color's premiere will be May at the earliest, and with the rain probably causing construction problems, Memorial Day weekend seems like a distinct possibility.

If it DOES open Memorial Day weekend, do you think that it is possible that you might not be able to buy blockout tickets for a Deluxe AP for those blocked out days, even if you arrived before Disneyland proper opens? Well, OK, anything's possible, of course, but would you worry about it if you were me? It sounds like my travel partner is pushing toward going Memorial Day weekend because she definitely wants to see WoC even if we die in a stampede.

(I know they won't sell passes when the parks are too busy, but I'm worried about if we got there before the gates opened and still couldn't get in.)

Would it show on the holiday Monday? The last two years we've noticed that the Monday starts quieting down (based on what is talked about over the weekend vs our experience starting on the Monday), and it hasn't been blocked out the last 2 years, so if WOC is showing, might be a good way to see it!

I heard of instances where they had to stop admitting people into DL, I'm sure they stopped selling tickets as not to have pissed customers.

But do you think Disneyland might ever not sell blockout tickets AT PARK OPENING? Obviously if the park is too crowded at 2 PM or whatever they will stop selling blockout tickets, but I plan to be at the parks much earlier than that on the blocked days.

Though I am a Deluxe AP-holder, I'm not a local. So my main concern would be if we had a 5-day/4-night vacation to Disneyland Resort, and then not be able to get into the parks for 2 of those days unless we bought tickets at full admission price.

Point taken about considering going so that we spend the whole day and night Monday (instead of just part of the day, which is what I had been thinking). I think I'll discuss that with my friend if we do end up planning to go that weekend. She prefers to go from Wednesday - Sunday (I'm assuming Thursday - Monday for the holiday) but I'll bet that crowds WOULD be better if we shifted our travel back to have a full day on Monday.

We were not going to be able to buy a black out ticket two years ago on NYE, for DH (we got in, but that's another story). They only stop selling tickets after they hit capacity. BUT, in the past they stopped allowing Disneyland tickets first and still had DCA tickets for a while, before cutting all ticket sales. It will be strange when DCA gets blocked first. But if you come at opening you should be fine.

Disney will stop selling tickets WAAAAY before it goes over the limit.

they do offer incentives such as pushing guest to DCA until 6-8. then offer the chance to get into DLR.

OP I'm sure if you're there at opening you'll be fine. But if you're buying blackout passes for 2 days consider the price to upgrade to a Premium....really, it might be something you end up doing.

DCA is suppose to hold a higher capacity than DLR. but that is until all the construction is done.

as for WOC, i do believe they will stop selling blockout tickets the same time as they stop selling park hopper tickets. They have stages on admission on what will happen at each stage, like stage 1 would be to stop selling tickets, stage 2 would be guest would have to wait to get in, and stage 3 would be no one gets in period.

WOC should be interesting to see, but the staging area can only fit maybe 10k or less. and it is suppose to be done at opposite of fantasmic. so in the future, it might draw part of the fantasmic crowd. but they plan to use WOC was a alternative for now when fantasmic is down.

I would have considered upgrading, but our passes expire in mid-June and this will be our last trip before they expire, so that'd be a pricey upgrade at this point. We always walk to the parks (so no savings in parking), and of course when we bought them APs were a lot cheaper, so upgrading would be a significant cost. I'm also strongly considering volunteering to remove or at least defray the cost for one day (I'd still probably need to upgrade my free pass to a hopper, so the savings wouldn't be much).

I'll definitely think about it for next time we buy APs though!
