I agree, the beds look super stark. What were they going to do when people kept stealing and/or they didn't wash them so they got noticeably stained? Would be nice if they could just wash an accent pillow and runner for each guest and charge guests if they go missing.

I agree. Those look awful.

I just don't understand the "people were stealing the bed runner" thing. Wouldn't they just bill the guest for that? I know at Paradise Pier they have really cool beach ball pillows and it says right on the information in the room what you'll be charged if you take one with you.

Years ago, there was a thread here that asked people to post pictures of the ugly bedspreads in their resort rooms.

I also remember in the recent past, there being some kind of scandal in the hotel industry when it was revealed that bedspreads are not often cleaned in between guests. I am sure that had something to do with stark white duvets becoming used in hotel room to assure guests that their bedcovers are clean.

The runners look nice, and although it is a shame that people take them and I don't doubt that they do, it's hard to imagine that very many of them are being stolen.

Unless by some happy coincidence, the color and style matched your bed at home well, what could you do with it? It's not exactly a little souvenir that you'd tuck into a drawer or scrapbook.

IDK about others but we always folded the runners (and heavy duvets) and put them in the closet. I just don't like the runners and they really don't have to be cleaned between guests so the idea of a dirty one being on the bed always grossed me out a little. I actually like the new looks. The rooms are all themed but not to over the top especially AKL which is one we frequent. The room is themed nicely with out having to be over board. The headboard and light fixtures really tie it in. Of course this is all going to be personal preference so where some people see an updating and wonderful refurb others only see stark white bedding and lack of theme.

I never trust a hotel anything, and after reading these boards I'm scared of the sheets! The runners/pillows were fairly harmless and assumably easy to wash. However I saw a lot of nasty reviews where clearly they weren't.

Eh some reviews here are worst case scenerio. We've never had a "dirty" room in all our stays (not saying it doesn't happen) but last time at Beach Club we did have a wet spot right between the two beds. It didn't smell or anything and was only the size of a silver dollar but that thing never freaking dried. By day 2 I just put a show on top of it each time I got in bed so I wouldn't step on it haha. I'm sure some people would say it was vacation ruining but we just rolled with it because again it didn't seem like it was dirty just like maybe they cleaned that spot and for whatever reason it just wouldn't dry haha.

I wasn't sold on the POP rooms and thought they looked like hospital rooms at first. After watching videos and seeing all the pictures I am excited to stay there in January.

As for the beds they do look really plain and boring in those pictures above, but since we pile blankets and dolls on at least one of them I really don't mind lol

It was decided to remove the temptation rather than accuse guests of theft that they couldn't really prove.

I love the renovations. The room we stayed in at BWV back in 2013 was so horrifying from a decor point of view it honestly turned me off the whole resort.

I noticed that the little colorful pillows in the POR picture actually help a little. Beds don't have to be so bland.

I think it's what's in style now. Look at the restaurants...so many newer or renovated one's look like factories

There is a whole lot true here. With kids in rooms, layers of "theming" build really quickly. Dolls, toys, stuffies, candies...voila, you have a Disney themed room. Starting with a "calm" foundation may not be the worst thing in the world.

Our most recent trip was an adult trip and my husband said when he walked down the hotel hallways he saw open doors with "tornados" hit inside. Lol. And think of all those pillow tosses with sticky candy fingers! That's traveling with kids! Gotta be able to just hose down the room!

IMG_1212.PNG I think I figured out what bothers me the most about the new stark bedding. It's that it's all tucked in which makes it look like someone forgot to finish making it and there's only a top sheet on the bed, no blanket or spread or duvet. The similarly all white scheme at Hampton inn looks like a duvet because it's not tucked in. Looks more finished and cozy to me compared with the sheet look at the Disney rooms.

Maybe it's all in my head! But it was driving me nuts because I love the clean looking all white look usually but the Disney rooms recently just looked unfinished and in comparing the photos I think that's the difference, at least to me!

It is a duvet at Hampton Inn. It's a shame what they've done to all the rooms. They've removed any kind of personality or theming from them and now they could be any hotel room anywhere in the US. :sad2:

What really bothers me about the move to an all white blob of a bed in the room, is that it doesn't have to be like this. It looks HORRIBLE. Very incomplete.

The runner is something that can be washed after each guests' stay; it's very small and made of mostly strong polyester, so it will be able to withstand thousands of washings. Now, everyone pays the price, again, for people stealing what doesn't belong to them. Charge the guest who stole the item. Some have said that Disney doesn't want to do this...maybe they feel they will be considered "mean" to do so. :sad2:

I'm a business owner, and I understand the bottom line (re: more washing costs), but honestly Disney....these rooms do NOT looked pulled together anymore. The washings wouldn't be super costly, especially since dozens and dozens of runners can be loaded into those huge machines for each cycle .

Very sad, in my opinion.
