I have read a couple of posters from another board state MS has told them guaranteed room check-in time at DVC resorts has now moved from 4pm to 5pm? Has anyone else been told this from CM's at check-in? Trying to verify if this is a couple of isolated instances or if this in fact has actually been changed?

Good question. In practice I think this has been happening for quite a while. It will be interesting to see if the official policy has been changed to match the reality. I would support adding (at member expense) whatever personnel is required to make 4:00 PM the latest check-in. 5:00 PM is just too late to get settled and have a relaxing evening. In fact I would support 3:00 PM as standard.

They use the words, after 4 PM. I've waited as late as 6:30 at SSR before.

I just checked and the member web site still says 4:00 pm. I hope they don't make a change to 5:00 pm.

If true, it must be another "member enhancement" we have been requesting for some time now. :sad2:

Ridiculous if true. Most resort hotels I've stayed in are very apologetic if your room isn't ready by 2 or 3pm.:confused3

I would be willing to wait until 5 if this guarentees a clean spotless room...

5:00?! Say WHAT? That's absurd. Most hotels have a 3:00 check-in and I always thought 4:00 was silly. All 3 of my confirmations that I have right now say 4:00 check-in. They must be cutting staff?? This certainly wouldn't help the bell service people who have to store all the luggage for people who are waiting. 5:00 won't be a problem for our May trip but it will be annoying for our August trip as we have an early arrival and I want to hire a car or get a rental in order to do a grocery stop. Just more planning hassles. Don't suppose we'll get a cleaning rebate on our annual dues out of it?!:rotfl:

Both posters were told this when checking in for their room. Both were also told this was new.....lets hope this is not!!

WE did not get our room until 5:30 at AKL, and we were at the resort at about 1. We had small children and were up early due to flights. The front desk manager checked us into a regular AK room to rest and our room at AKL was not ready until 6:00.. We had dinner res at Jiko at 6:00, the manager also bumped our res to 6:30 and gave us half off our entire bill. Could not have been happier, they truly made our long day better!:worship:

Timeshares do not typically follow hotel norms for check in times. They are usually much later.

DVC does state after 4:00 pm, but I am finding later and later room availability times as each year passes. It is a treat when one arrives earlier and the room is ready. Not to be counted on, but definitely a plus! :)

Just read this on the DVC site;) .

"To help address a growing Member interest in wanting to go to parks or the pool before going to their villas we have moved check in time to after 5pm!!!!!! To make this change possible, we have decided to allow housekeepers come in much later than before, allowing them to sleep later and have a hearty lunch before coming to work! We think you'll agree it is a win-win situation!!"

:lmao: Had me fooled there for a minute! But really, is it unreasonable to expect the room to be ready by 4p (if its still this time!)? Why are we accepting 5:30p, 6:00p, etc? I guess it must be somewhere in our contract!:confused3

I wouldn't mind if checkout time was at 10 rather than 11 in order to have the rooms ready by 3, no later than 4.

I'm sure this wouldn't set well with non morning people.

I think the ridiculous part is that it is never possible to get a late checkout and we have to wait until 4 for check-in. If the room is going to sit vacant, I seee no reason that we cannot get until noon or 1:00 if possible. I would be rasing a storm if my room was not ready at 4:00pm. I look at the fact that we still pay very high dues, plus are spending freely at the parks and restaurants. I have never had an issue, but I have had our family tell us that they have had to wait before.

Either that, or someones sister's third cousin twice removed heard this from the friend of one of the brothers of one of the monorail drivers.:goodvibes

The member web site still says 4:00. It took me a while to find it, but it's in the Member FAQ under the Contact tab...

What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is anytime after 4:00 p.m. (please notify the Front Desk, or Member Services if you're planning a late arrival), and check-out is by 11:00 a.m. For the consideration of all guests (as well as our busy housekeeping staff), we ask that you please do your best to respect these timeframes.

We had to switch rooms last week at VWL (maintenance issue which couldn't be fixed) and the manager told me to vacate my room w/ bell services at the usual time and that the new room would be ready by 4 pm, same timeline as usual. (And happily, a better manager the next day expedited the cleaning on the new room which was 2 doors down and we were instead able to move everything over in about 10 minutes, no downtime).

Also, the day we checked into the first room, around 11 am, we were able to get right in our room. And this was at a full resort.... (I know it was full because they couldn't get us in to any other room before the next day)

My experience suggests that check out of 10 is as or more common than 11 and 12 unusual. I don't know of any that have check in after 4 other than DVC. ALL the rest I know make every possible effort to be ready by check in time. One thing Marriott will do is if you have consecutive rooms, they will let you stay in the first room until the second one is ready. That's true even if it's a different Marriott timeshare in the same area. We have used it on a couple of occasions and once it was a lifesaver because I had to make a 7 hour car trip that day to hand off our son for a scout trip and it would have been difficult for my wife with no vehicle changing resorts and being out of pocket. They even came and moved our luggage for her while I was gone.

Resorts vary on whether they allow late check out otherwise but most will give some flexibility. Recently I asked this question at the Hilton on I drive and was told they only allow X # per building.
