Has anyone with high blood pressure ever rode Aerosmith Rock n Roller Coaster?

I love that ride (except for the take-off). My blood pressure has been running systolic 130's to 140's and diastolic 80's. It's probably too late to go to the doctor and she may not put me on meds anyway. (We leave next week). Would you ride it? It is the only ride I am concerned about because it feels like my heart is being ripped out of my chest at take-off. Just wanted some opinions.

Hubby has HBP and has ridden with no problems. However, if your's is running higher than it should, I wouldn't ride. No ride is worth putting your health, or even your life, at risk. JMHO

Enjoy your trip.

You should call your doctor. If you can't get an appointment, just ask that s/he call you and let you know if it is okay to ride thrill rides that spin, shoot, shake and drop you.

We don't know why you're hypertensive, nor do we have the qualifications to advise you. If we did, it would basically be practicing medicine without a license.

Give the doc a call. He'll know more...and you pay him enough, right? :)

I think if you know what to expect, that BP isn't that high, I think the anticipation/fear of a new high-speed rollercoaster would make your blood pressure rise more than the ride itself.

But I am NOT a doctor!!

Those numbers are similar to my wife's and she's ridden that coaster several times. It's the ones that have several inversions that mess her up ... this one just mainly has one VERY quick startup acceleration.

My DH's BP is much higher than yours and he rode all the thrill rides at WDW and had no problems - but that doesn't mean someone else won't have a problem. As others mentioned, the best advice is to call your doctor and just mention where you are going and what you would like to do and ask if it's okay. The warnings on the rides are to cover Disney's backside but they are there for a reason too. That being said, I have two heart conditions but never have experienced a problem on any of the thrill rides and I rode them all and forgot to check with my cardiologist first. I have no fear either though. If I was very afraid and went on them anyway, maybe that would cause more of a problem.

I have high blood pressure and have ridden this twice. The first time, I came off with a really bad headache, so I tried it again another time (wanted to see if it were just a coincidence that I got a headache). Again, came off with a headache, so I no longer ride this (too bad as I enjoy it). YMMV

Why would it be too late to go to the doctor? Have you already called and tried to make an appointment? That is the first thing you should be doing. Getting on meds can be as simple as the doctor writing a prescription and you taking about a half hour at the pharmacy waiting for it to be filled.

That being said, I know my husband has ridden this before his high blood pressure was diagnosed. But if I had know about it, I wouldn't have let him ride (I can't ride for another issue). He's on meds now and is perfectly fine for it.

I have a pretty serious neck injury and any sudden jarring can cause severe damage. There are some attractions that people say I'll be fine on (like the Safari). I stay off because I am not about to take a chance.

In the end, the only person who can decide about what you want to do in life is you.

I have to say to each his own - when my grandfather was alive and had all sorts of health problems he went on thrill rides.
