Has anyone used and had a good experience renting from Fox?

I've heard some negative comments but not from anyone who has actually used them. If you have, please share your experience! thank you.

This is not a company I would use. They're not a major player in the rental game.

I have, but it was 5 or 6 years ago. My eldest son was I think just 20 and we had to send him down to Florida to do some training (I'm also his employer) for a few days, along with another employee. They were the only outfit that would allow us to rent a car for him. I think it was slightly easier since it was a business rental...I vaguely recall sending them our insurance info ahead of time. In any event, I'm sorry I don't recall the details, I just recall that it worked out for him to rent a vehicle for the several days they were down there. I don't recall specifics or cost.
With THAT being said - I wouldn't use them again/recommend them to anyone. I suspect I may have gotten lucky that one time because their reviews are consistently lousy!
I always approach things like this - the difference between the cost of a mainstream rental company vs. Fox - is it worth paying if your rental is fouled up, they aren't completely on the up & up with you and or in some way your are inconvenienced in a way you most likely would not be with the other companies? If so, so with the more expensive rental over Fox. Just my 2 cents.

I used them not long ago and my experience was about what I expected. It's all about setting your expectations. For example, the one thing that might turn people off is that if you dont buy their insurance, they will put a thousand dollar hold on your credit card. For me that's not a problem. I can see that being a big problem for others. It was a pretty routine weekly rental. Waited in line, got my car, returned it with a full tank. Pretty routine.

I have a five day rental with them at MCO in October. For the price difference I think it is worth it. If they are truly putting a $1,000 hold on the CC then I won't rent with them on principal. I posted in another more travel focused group I'm in, I'll let you know if they say it is common.

I used them at LAX a few years ago and thought they were totally fine. I don’t know what the MCO location is like, but I do know that it’s a few miles off-airport, as I’ve passed by it on my way to and from several times.

We had a bad experience with Fox in Miami. We took a shuttle to their office several miles from the airport, basically in the middle of nowhere. Even through we had prepaid through a travel site, they insisted we had to buy their insurance which added well over $100. They said there was no option not to purchase it and our prepaid reservation was non-refundable. We felt trapped and misled. They proceeded to give us a car with a nearly empty tank of gas, after saying we had to return it full. As soon as we noticed it, we tried to call the Miami rental center but could only connect to a national office. The agent said she would put a note on our account that the tank was empty. We also noticed that an indicator light came on within about 10 minutes. There was no owner's manual in the car, so we had to try to look it up on the Internet. We should have turned around and gone back at that point, but we had flown all day from the west coast and were already deep into the Miami rush hour traffic. It was all hugely annoying. We have been to Miami many times since and no other rental agency has required us to purchase insurance. I will never rent from Fox again.

We rented from the MCO location and it was a one and done for us. Bus ride + 30 minute wait in line before we were at the counter. The class of vehicle we rented was not ready when we got to the counter and would not be ready for an additional 30 minutes. Girl behind the counter offered us a downgrade to avoid the wait (thanks but no thanks). She was also VERY pushy about add-ons to the point that she was telling me it was impossible to avoid toll roads.

Only positive I can think of is that the car had a cracked tail light that I didn't notice until the 2nd day. I'm 95% sure the damaged happened while we were in possession. I turned the car in and never heard a word about it.

Are you by chance a FL resident? Asking on a more travel focused board, one of the other users parsed out their T&Cs. You may end up with a $1,000 security hold on your card if you are a local renter in FL or CA. Basically if you have a FL license renting in FL or a CA license in CA. Otherwise, security holds should be $150 on a CC or $400 on a debit card.

Im not a FL resident. Obviously this hold puts maximum pressure on the customer to opt into their insurance. Good news is that it drops off promptly once the rental is turned in.
