Hi Charlotte

We stayed at the H.I. Nikki Bird in March. Now we normally stay at the All Star Sports, but as hubby booked a surprise trip for a week we found a good deal with Virgin. As it is classed as a Virgin Flagship Hotel, we were already booked into the hotel and given our room key as we picked up our car (nice touch, we just had to call reception to let them know we had arrived), our room was next to a pool (good location) and the room was clean and more spacious than the All Stars. The location of the hotel is literally 5 minutes from WDW. They do have buses that can take you to the Disney Parks if you don't have a car. Unfortuately I did miss being IN Disney and the use of their transportation, and although the rooms are clean and housekeeping comes in every day, the hotel itself looked like it could do with a lick of paint (but lets face it you only use the place to sleep in) but apart from that I wouldn't hesitate to use them again for a short break.

If there is anything else you would like to know please let me know and I will try to help.

Hi, I agree with everything mandymouse said, we stayed at Nikki Bird last august, the location for disney was fantastic, cheap restaurants close by, ponderosa etc, 24hr garage with small shop directly opposite, very good restaurants in the hotel seafood buffet has an excellent reputationn and is used by locals, didnt eat there ourselves as kids wont eat seafood, Angels diner is in the hotel too, ate there a lot, 50's diner theme, enormous portions, very friendly staff, kids staying at the hotel ate free when we were there, which save a few dollars, breakfast buffet was also excellent. The pool and hot tub were great after a hard day at the parks, its not the most luxurious hotel I have ever stayed in but it was great for the price, we would've booked to stay ther again next may but some of the party wanted a villa, so we thought we would try that. I'm sure you will have a great time.

thanks for getting back to me, i have had a few mixed reviews some say it's the most dirty hotel they have ever stayed in and others say that it good value for money, clean and tidy. I surpose i will just have to wait and see.

hi charlotte,
the hotel was definately clean, the communal areas were cleaned regularly, pool cleaned daily and our room cleaned daily with clean towels daily and sheets every few days, its just that it looked like any drive in motel type place you see on tv! we went for two weeks and we booked a package, about two months before we went, my parents decided to come for the second week to surprise my DD's, I booked their flights and the Nikki Bird over the net, during our first week i was dreading my mother turning up, i thought she would hate the hotel as soon as she saw it! she didnt, she loved it, and keeps saying she wishes we were going back there next time and not to a villa! i know you don't know her but, trust me, if my mother like it you will be ok!
if you go there expecting the hilton you will be dissappointed but I'm sure you know that by now.
you will have a great time, would swap my countdown timer for yours anyday!

Hi charlotte, me again! just noticed from another of your posts that your children are 2 and 3, my brother and his family are coming with us next year (they are the ones that really want the villa) their children will be 4 and 3 and have never flown and the three year old hates loud noise!, mine are 6 and 8 now and are obviously much easier and much more portable, i would be very interested to hear how it goes when you get back and any tips to keep them happy, any rides or shows that your children loved or hated that i could guide my brother and the kids to, or away from! I'm the organiser of the trip, which I am enjoying but, its quite scary if they travel all that way and the kids hate it!

have a fantastic time.

any tips from anyone else also welcome.

Hi claire Im so glad that you enjoyed the hotel you have put my mind at rest about going there now. My husband and i have been a few times before to orlando so no what to expect from there hotels. I will report back to you as soon as we get home to let you know what it was like with our kids and what things they really enjoyed doing and didnt like doing. I have been out and bought lots of little things to take on the plane for them to play with and i have wrapped them individually so it makes it more exciting for them when on the plane. I'm expecting them to be quite good on the plane as last year we took them to Australia and they were very good on the plane going there. These next 2 weeks are going to pass really slowly.
