Has anyone stayed at these NYC hotels?

My mom stayed at the Edison last year. She said the room was small but very clean. The hotel itself is old but clean. Neat looking lobby. I saw the outside of it on my trip a few weeks ago. It has a great location right at Times Square. You can stand at Times Square and see the Edison which is only a short block away. I have only stayed at the Drake and City Club. Both of which cost and arm and a leg. We are going again in September and staying at the Marriott Marquis. Another pricey hotel but right at Times Square which is where everything is happening.

I stayed at Hotel Metro last September for $90. I had a view of the Empire State Building from my window, which was 2 buildings over. I got 2 bedrooms, 3 beds, and a mini fridge for that price (and it was just me staying there for one night), though I was apparently upgraded for some reason. I didn't complain, though. ;) I liked it. It was small & clean, the staff was nice, & the decor was cute. Their bath soaps were yummy, too.

Hotel Pennsylvania has a really good location. Right across from Penn Station, Macy's and down the street from the Empire State Building, walking distance to Times Square and the theaters. We've never stayed there, but have been inside and have heard it is nice.

We've stayed at the New Yorker Hotel which is around the block. http://www.newyorkerhotel.com/ It was nice and pretty cheap. We stayed at a few others too but I'm drawing a blank on the names, sorry :(

I don't know if you've ever stayed in NYC before. If you haven't, don't expect big rooms! Expect to stay in a closet unless you pay alot more. The rooms are tiny but generally clean. When we stay in the city, it's usually just for 1-2 nights and we're hardly in the room. When we are, DH and I are always bumping into each other.

Yup stayed in NYC before, but I have no idea what the hotel was.

I'm expecting a little box of a hotel room! Thanks for the replies so far.

I checked the hotel, and their prices start near 200 for their rooms! You must have really lucked out!

NYC is a great place to try priceline. I've stayed in top-rated hotels for about $100/night, including the Waldorf-Astoria, The Intercontinental-Barclay, The Marriot Marquis and The Grand Hyatt. You can find more about what comes up and how to go about bidding at www.biddingfortravel.com . I've never stayed at the hotels you've listed, my one word of caution would be to check and double-check the bed situation--it isn't uncommon to get a twin bed in a NYC hotel room, so if there is more than 1 person staying there, that could be a problem. Enjoy your trip!

Bedknobbery2 is right, priceline is the way to go - I got the Marriott Marquis for $110 per night for our trip in August. The location is perfect, right along Times Square. Can't wait to go!

Hotel Penn has a nice lobby and absolutely frightening rooms. Mine brought a new meaning to the word "mildewed." Definitely go to biddingfortravel.com and try Priceline. Warning: the manager(s) of that site can be VERY NASTY if you don't give them all the information exactly as requested. However, the info there is invaluable and the bidding strategies are very good. Tread carefully.

Man, I must have. The room wasn't tiny like everyone is saying, either. You could have fit a third full bed in the main room. The 2nd bedroom was small though. It WAS mid-september, so not the summer tourist season, but the weather was still warm. I wish I could have stayed there longer.

Another No for Hotel Penn. It's a dump and I wouldn't stay there if it were free.

I stayed at the Herald Square Hotel when I was there. It's in the old "Life" magazine building and the artwork was cool. Rooms were very small with just the necessities, but they were clean. It's been a few years, but I paid about $79.00 a night when I stayed there.

You should check out Tripadvisor.com. They have some really interesting reviews on hotels.
