Has Anyone Seen This?

There was a whole lot of discussion about this on dvctalk@yahoogroups.com. It went on and on. The point is I didn't know there were trash rooms either and I have been a member since 1992!! I think the front desk should apprise you of the locations of these rooms when you check in and reminnd guests to use them or wait for the t&t day. I hope, as another has said, that these were not DVC'rs, just people who rented the space for a few nights from CRO.

Did I miss this in the guide book? I also had no idea the trash rooms existed. Good thing to know now that we have a long trip scheduled our others have been short trips.

Great idea CaptainMidnight about DVC leaving a note in the rooms as to where you can deposit trash.

In addition, if people don't comply DVC should try one friendly reminder, then if it happens again, charge them for daily housekeeping.

I always put room service trays outside the room with a call to room service to let them know. Rarely has that been a problem as the trays are gone in short order.

"Hi, did you know there is a trash room to take this to? I'll help you carry this down there and show you where it is."

That is what the room service staff tell you to do with the trays - put them out side the door and call to have them picked up.

The trash I referred to in my earlier post was not even in trash bags. Just a large pile of cereal boxes, milk containers, and pizza boxes. It was not left over from room service!! I didn't know about the trash and recyclable room previously. I just noticed it as we walked by every day. I didn't read the sign on my door, if there was one. The door to the t&r room was left open several times because there were people in there depositing their trash or housekeeping collecting the t&r. But, had my room been down a different hall, I wouldn't have known about the t&r room either. So, I agree that DVCers need to be made aware that it exists somehow. Maybe they do, on the note on the door.

When we were in Vero Beach Resort, I remember a recycle center located in the parking garage that is located under the rooms. I don't remember if I just happened to see it or if there was information in my room or packet telling me about it.

Our home is VWL and the first time we stayed there, I noticed the placards on the walls giving directions to the trash/recycling room, which I suppose is how we knew it existed. We were at HH last week staying in the building next door to the Live Oak Lodge and I sent DH with a bag of trash in search of the "trash room" and told him to look for the signs. He couldn't find any signs, so he went to the front desk. He was told by the CM that there was no trash room that she was aware of and that he should just leave the trash outside of our villa door for housekeeping to pick up. He didn't, he just found a can to place it in. Anyway, perhaps the people who leave it outside their rooms have been told to do this by front desk CM or maybe they usually stay at HH where there apparently is no "trash room"

(*I am amazed at the number of long time members who were unaware of the garbage drop off closets. I would give guests a break (and have) that they really didn't know what to do with all the garbage that comes with a homeaway from home. If it was done in a reckless matter or smelled I would call housekeeping to inform the occupants. In over 30 stays....a bag or two but never a hugh problem. The doors of the closets should be more clearly marked. Many a time I have yanked on a locked housekeeping closet in my search for the recycle bin. Many timeshares leave a list of instructions for the unit, not just an inventory like DVC, That would help the situation I am sure.

Speaking up for those of us who have rented points...we know how to dial housekeeping and ask questions. At BCV my husband took trash out several times. I had no clue where he took it to, but I just asked him and he said he asked and someone directed him to the receptacle closet.

If someone is a lazy slob at home - whether a DVC member, renter or cash customer - then likely they'll be one on vacation. Probably more likely. There really is no reason why someone can't make a phone call and find out how to dispose of your personal trash. The trek to the waste closet may be a little out of the way, but insignificant compared to the lengths we go in any given day at the parks.

I bet if the perpetrators were charged T&T charges for that day it would put an end to that problem. Or better yet, housekeeping puts it back in their room.

This post really wasn't meant to sound harsh, but it irks me when people who supposedly make enough money to afford a vacation such as WDW act ill-mannered. (Stepping off my soapbox now.)

from a fellow "Upstater", yep we saw this happening last April at two rooms on our floor everyday! We know they had shipped stuff to Bw as they had mounds of trash in the boxes that they had shipped for two days then they used Disney bags or anything else to hold the trash. Now we had a two bedroom with eight people and managed our trash everyday without the need to "Litter" the hall!
