We just got back from a great week over the New Year's holiday at the Boardwalk. Everything about the trip was wonderful except for our "neighbors" down the hall from us.

Every day they placed all of their garbage out in the hall next to their door until someone from housekeeping took it away. This lasted for a few days.

All I can figure is that they didn't like not having the daily garbage pick up and were too lazy (or didn't know enough) to drop it off themselves.

I was stunned at this and would have said something if I saw them. Of course Disney picked it up. I hope this doesn't become a habit. I'm wondering if others have seen this?

I saw it the summer of 2001 at OKW. They would put the trash around the trash receptacle and place it outside their door. We had to walk by it every day!! It was gross.............

Luckily they checked out after 4 days and we still had 10 to go!!

I have never seen this with garbage bags, I have seen room service trays. On our departure day last month, I decided to take our garbage to the trash room that was right around the corner from us, a housekeeping or maintenance cm grabbed it off me as I started down the hall and thanked me! :D We usually took the garbage out to the trash room every day or two.

Yep, saw it at the BCVs. Guess maybe we need to put a note on thier door explaining how garbage pickup is handled and the location of the dumpsters, huh? It is inconsiderate of fellow members, but that may be a new trend. At vero beach, people were swiping chairs that had personal colored towels on them saying "we're a group of 14 people, we just spread out when going to the pool area." The owners of these chairs were simply in the pool swimming while thier chairs were being taken. I ended up moving my own stuff three times to try to accomodate them and let them have chairs together. Tried to be nice, but ended up being taken advantage of. Oh well, not everyone is rude, there are lots of nice members out there.

why not call the front desk and complain? Do we have to start taking it upon ourselves to inform fellow members when they do something wrong. I mean if you make a mess, clean it up or it will be ruined for the next person. You know your neighbor!

I know this may be far out there, but I'd prefer to think they weren't members and maybe "cash" customers? (I hope  ) Maybe they didn't want the maid service but wanted to get rid of trash. As I said, I'd like to think they were cash customers and NOT DVC members...I hope.

They probably did not know where to throw the garbage out. This happened to us on our fist stay, we had to call down to Housekeeping to ask them to pick up the trash when they told us that there were trash rooms on every floor.

We stayed at VWL from December 8-5. One of the rooms a few doors down the hall always had trash stacked outside their door. Cereal boxes, pizza boxes, etc. They were just a few doors down from the trash and recycling room. In fact, they had to pass it on their way to the elevator or stairs every day!!! By doing this, they are getting one of the services (trash) everyday that we're only supposed to get on the 4th and 7th days.

We were on the third floor at OKW this past trip. I was surprised to see a bag of garbage left outside of the second floor unit.

I can only imagine what it's like when people do this in the hot weather.:( :( :(

I'v seen this too on our trips. It's disgusting! I like the idea of
putting a note on the door. I'll bring scotch tape my next trip.

Hey Happy Birthday Cat

I have never experienced the trash problem, but I was wondering how New Years was at the parks. I am planning a trip this New Years. Any info will help.

Hmm, this is an interesting topic - not because I've ever seen trash left lying around like you say, but because I've never been aware of the facility to take trash to a 'trash room'!

We've had four DVC stays (2 x OKW, one each at VWL and BWV) and have never been made aware of this facility. When our trash has needed emptying before trash and towel day we've taken it to the nearest trash bin (when we could see one), but would have been much happier if we'd known about a special place we could have disposed of it more easily. Are these places marked on the resort maps?

Where are these 'trash rooms' and how did you find out about them?

Simba Noodle:

The parks were crowded but we are already making plans for next year. It was great. If you use ee, fast pass and get priority seatings, it really wasn't a problem. We never waited in line for more than 20 minutes at a time and even rode some rides numerous times before they got crowded. (SM once with a five minute wait, next time on the FP). Disney was opening two parks each morning one hour early for resort guests to help cut down the crowds. It really helped. On New Yea's Eve, the MK and AK were filled to capacity to outside guests. It really poured on New Year's Eve night though so I didn't get a real feel for what it would be like with good weather.

Hilary:

I am one of those people that gets trash and towel service each day so I don't empty the trash myself. I like the clean towels that I don't have to wash. I am sure they could tell you at the front desk where the location of the trash disposal is.

I'm posting to this topic because I'd like to know where the trash rooms are too! We've had five stays, and always carry stuff to the nearest can, usually by the pool. Diana

This is an interesting topic. I'm not sure how I learned about the trash/recycling rooms. I think I saw someone taking their trash out and watched what they did with it. I think it's a great idea and I have no problem taking my trash/newspapers out to that room myself. Maybe it would a nice gesture on DVC's part to leave a small instruction sheet telling people about the trash rooms and their location. That way if they're a cash customer and are expecting maid service everyday, they won't be surprised or caught unaware. Also, if they're new to DVC and don't know all the ins and outs (like me), that would be a nice help, too. The sheet could ask that people "please" not leave trash outside in the hallways, too.

I think cash customers get maid service. Maybe it's renters of DVC points from members who have the issue.

I, too, was unaware of trash rooms. I have never needed them, but now I will make sure I find out where they are.

Maybe this is a good topic suggestion for the DVC Magic newsletter.

...I'm almost certain every floor has one. There are placards on the wall... the same ones that point to elevators, ice & vending.... I think they say "trash & recylables".

It is very common to leave trash in the hallway when you are done with your room service order so that it can be taken away. I see this all the time in the hotels where we stay. The staff can take the dirty dishes and garbage away without disturbing the guests. It is very common and is done everwhere.

I agree this practice of leaving room service leftovers outside the door is common, but it doesn't make the practice any less disgusting to the other guests who may have to thread there way through with luggage.

Why not make a simple call to room service asking for a pickup when putting it out. That way it shouldn't have to sit there until another CM comes by with a free hand.

It was not room service remains that I saw in the hallway at the BWV. It was a big bag of garbage. Can you imagine what it would be like if everyone did that?

I agree that room service trays are common. When I order room service, I always ask what they would like me to do with it when I am done. Sometimes the response is to just leave it in the hall. Other times it is to call and someone will come and get it.
