I won tickets to see her. DS who is 7 wants to go. I am not sure about taking him. If anyone has seen her can you let me know what to expect. I just want some facts before I decide. My parents took me to see Queen when I was 6 and I turned out ok!;) Thanks

I would go on youtube and look at some of her videos. Honestly I think she is a bit risque and she has built a lot of her image up on sexuality, low-cut outfits etc. And a lot of her songs aren't exactly kid-friendly material. This is the girl who got edited out of Sesame Street! :rotfl:

She reminds me a bit of Britney Spears in the early 2000s when she got very sexual, very quick. My cousin was saying she took her 7 year old to a concert and then after a song called "The Touch of my Hand" with people on beds on stage miming ************, she had a hard time dealing with that question!

That being said it's your child, your decision. But I think Queen is more appropriate for a 6 year old than Katy Perry is for a 7 year old. JMHO, and that's not just because Queen is the best thing in the history of ever. :rolleyes1

I have never seen her live. I don't think she is as risque as some of the other performers out there but you never know. She has said that she doesn't like to go too far. I'd look on youtube for some performance videos of her to get a better idea. I really like her music...it's fun!

ETA: If you have listened to some of Katy's songs like E.T. you will know what it isn't all innocent music like "Firework" but I am not sure if it's worse than what the Spice Girls were in their hey day. I would say it's iffy for a 7 year old.

When is it? My wife is going to a Katy Perry concert here in DC next Wednesday. I'll ask her what she thinks and let you know! :thumbsup2

The show is June 25. That would be great if you could ask your wife.

Ok, I had to go find the youtube of her on Sesame Street.....it would have been fine had she had on something else......why didn't they have her in a different outfit?

I wouldn't take such a young person.. think of many questions that can be asked later.

I saw her nearly two years ago, before this last album came out. Her show at the time was bright, fun, quite campy. There was some sexual innuendo, but her outfits, while short and skimpy, aren't any different from someone wearing a bathing suit. Some low cut tops, lots of short skirts, but its not sheer, suggesting nudity. Just like a pin-up girl.

That being said, at 7 years old, I'd think a lot of her chatting with the audience would go over his head. It wasn't overly raunchy. She did pick a boy from the audience and kissed him, but not racy, just a peck on the lips. Even on her "I Kissed a Girl", she just blew kisses at the audience.

Of course, all of this may have changed since. It was a good show, though. She really did sing (no lip syncing) and the stage decor was amazing. Congrats on winning the tix! I would go see her again....

Go with another adult and leave your son at home :). Is he your only available choice for a date or do you not have a sitter?

IMHO...NOT appropriate for a 7 year old. She drops some f-bombs in her music (and on stage) and there is a good amount of her material that is NOT family friendly ("Last Friday Night") for example.

My wife and I will be at Mohegan on the 25 to see her, too.

Of course I can go with another adult, but my son heard I won the tickets while talking with my Mother, and he likes Katy Perry and asked if I would take him. He really likes her music...Just like he loves Justin Bieber.

The radio edit stuff is a bit more benign and they (obviously) edit out more of the naughty bits. My 8 year old hears her on the radio and loves her.

The "CD" version of the music is a little more risque.

You probably wouldn't scar him for life by taking him, but you may have to answer some uncomfortable questions on the ride home (or, it may go right over his head).

She's coming to the civic center in November...tix on sale on Friday.

Take me, take me. I missed her concert in Atlanta last week on my birthday and I really want to see her at least once.

there is a BIG difference between Justin Bieber songs and Katy Perry songs. Justin is a kid singing about first loves. Katy is an adult singing about adult situations. I would not let a 7 year old attend, but that's just my opinion.
