I just want to see what my odds are.

My girlfriend and I - and our 2 kids are going down in September, and Im really hoping we could get a door-in-between room.... It wouldnt be the end of the world if we didnt, but it would be a heckuva lot funner! :thumbsup2

You want a connecting room:

Connecting - Door between the two rooms

Adjoining - Simply Side by Side (no door between)

Be sure to be specific and request a connecting room on your ressy! :thumbsup2

Connecting rooms will only be guaranteed if there is only one adult in the group. Anything else is a request.

I'm wondering how you would make this request. Do you call CRO? The resort? How would you request connecting rooms? Or for that matter how do you make requests like for a particular building or floor?

Thanks!

Maura

Which resort are you staying in? You might want to consider a Family Suite at the All Star Music Resort. It's about the same cost as two standard rooms, but you get a bedroom with a door (for the adults;) ) a kitchenette for fixing snacks, a sofa and chairs for relaxing (which make beds for the kids) and you still get two bathrooms to make it easier to get ready in the morning. Then you won't have to worry about whether your two rooms are next to each other or on totally different ends of the building.

Ahhh - man.

I just wrote too my travel agent, and made sure we request 'door in the middle'. I originally had asked for connecting, and she corrected me and said I wanted 'adjoining'

UGH!

I just booked at Pop for next May. The CM said that they guaranteed connecting rooms for families... Not sure how true that is, but that's what I was told.

I understand that... I understand 'requests'.

I just want 'odds'....

Well some think that is even if they get a confirmation from the Reservation Center saying guaranteed they will get it, but just wanted you to know that unless there is only one adult guest it is a request.

odds, absolutely no way for anyone to know. They will give them to families with one adult first, then families with more children than one room, can hold, then someone in your situation.

I recently booked 2 rooms at the POP for this December and was told I was guaranteed connecting rooms as the number of kids in my party outnumbered the number of adults. This was the first time they told me I was guaranteed this as in the past they said all I could do was request it.

Not sure how 'guaranteed' this really is :confused3 but I have never not received what I requested.

The problem with connecting rooms is Reservations will guarantee it and even send you a confirmation stating, guaranteed connecting. But the resorts will not guarantee it unless there is only one adult.

They will certainly try, but there are times where the group is split up.

You need a different Travel Agent next time. While the general public shouldn't be expected to know the difference, or that there is one, a Travel Agent absolutely should.

We did not get the connecting rooms we requested at POP last year. We were going with my mom and wanted DD to be able to run between the two rooms w/o having to go outside. We did get adjoining rooms.

and did not receive at ASMo last year. The adjoining ended up okay because we crashed late every night (pool or parks it seemed like the whole time).

In fact none of our requests were met. Ended up fine because we wanted Toy Story but the whole area was muddy from refurb on Buzz.

Loved the Fanatasia bldg. Had to emphasize no smoking (I have asthma/allergies). I did not put medical reason on the request, just no smoking. They gave us two new adjoining smoke free rooms with no problem. In fact our room was so clean, and cleaned so well everyday that I wondered if this was why (my asthma/allergy situation).

Anyway, we wanted connecting and received adjoining. Kids did not outnumber adults. Our ressie said "guaranteed connecting" but I knew that the resort could only try.

If it's really important a suite at All Star Music would be perfect. The pics of them are beautiful.

:)

We always get connecting rooms (at POR & POFQ). I make the request when I call for a reservation, then again when checking in.
We travel off-peak, so I imagine that increases our odds of having requests met.
Good luck.

Disney may say they guarantee connecting rooms but in reality Disney does not guarantee connecting rooms.

Disney DOES NOT book the connecting as 1 room catagory .
Instead they book the rooms as two seperate rooms until both parties in the connecting rooms check out so at any given time there may be less connecting rooms available than were "booked'.

As a mother of 4 (All grown now. My oldest is in her 30's and my youngest is 22) I often wished Disney had more options for larger families.
When the children were younger and we would go to Disney they did not have DVC or the family suites. In fact Disney did not have a Moderate until CBR opened in the late 1980's so if we wanted to stay onsite we either rented 2 rooms at a deluxe or stayed in the cabins.

I wrote to Disney many times over the years asking for more options for families so when I heard they were building the New Family Suites at All Star Music it just made me so happy!

In the late 80's I booked 2 connecting rooms at CBR for my family.
When we checked in there were no connecting rooms left but we were able to get rooms next to each other on the second floor.
Our two oldest were teens so I put them in one room and the 2 little ones who were 5 and 7 stayed with us. It worked for us because our older children were able to stay in a room without us but if they were younger DH and I would have had to split up.

Disney may say they guarantee connecting rooms but in reality Disney does not guarantee connecting rooms.

If there are 2 adults Disney can split the adults and children into two rooms that are not connecting. They try hard not to do this but it can and does happen sometimes. If however it is one adult with 5 children Disney should try harder to find connecting rooms since some of the children cannot be left in a room without an adult. But if you look at the threads posted below you will see that sometimes even Disney mixes up.

It does happen. Far too often IMHO.

Just wanted to re-iterate what others have said:

We requesting connecting rooms at CBR in January--not really a busy time & we were early for check-in. They did not have us in connecting rooms. They said they could accommodate us, but it would be smoking rooms--which was our #1 request non-smoking.

We were side-by-side, so we just went outside to go next door, so it wasn't a huge deal for us. But if you definitely want to be together--I would go with a suite. You could also look into renting DVC points for a villa.

Here are a couple more threads about guests not getting connecting rooms:

One of the threads that Linda posted a link to was my experience last March. I had many conversations with the higher-ups at Guest Services and was told that even if it says "guaranteed" it is not truly "guaranteed." It just has higher priority over the "requests." Because on a given day, there might only be 25 connecting room sets opening up, but 27 "guaranteed connecting rooms for families" ressies checking in. 2 of those families are not going to get their "guarantee."

I know, I was shocked that we had to fight so hard to get put in rooms that had just been fumigated for lice (they were taken out of the inventory, but re-opened because we insisted we needed rooms.) I sort of assumed that if they didn't have the rooms for us, they'd find rooms elsewhere on Disney property. For that stay, we were sometimes 2 adults and sometimes only 1. Now we will book offsite if we need to do that again. If there are 2 of us adults, we book connecting and hope for the best. Otherwise, we'll split the kids.

My point is to make backup plans if you are depending on connecting rooms.

That is one of the main reasons if my family were young I would choose a Suite over 2 connecting rooms or I would be prepared that I may need to split the family up and sleep in a different room than DH.

I really appreciate the responses, everyone! Thank you!

It wouldnt be the end of the world if we're not together... it would just be 'cooler' :cutie:
