Has anyone rented the GPS through Orlando Stroller Rentals?

I know this is a new item. And I've already signed up to rent it, but was wondering if anyone else has rented it yet and what your experience is?

We have an 18 month old who is a runner, and I swear could climb Mount Everest in 15 minutes (the real one, not the ride). She's never met a stranger, either.

So I decided to rent it just to see if it would help with my paranoia!

I promise I'll come back with reviews as well.

A friend used them a few weeks back. They said they were lucky and did not have to call the hotline since their daughter did not get lost . She told me overall the use and experience was very easy. It's all about the peace of mind, right?!

My DD who will be 15 months when we go sound like your child. She is such a handful and I am seriously thinking of renting one also. Where did you rent it through and is it expensive?

Any idea on how much radiation comes out of one of the units? We have a friend who is a pediatric research specialist, and he's already warned us about cellphone use for young children and teens (he's seen the brain tumors, yikes!) but I wonder if the GPS units send out anything stronger than a radiowave?

As for the radio waves, I am not sure but if it not transmitting all the time like a cel phone call, I would think it is very low power. You should probably call the company that provides it and ask. Please post what they say

I'm not overly worried about the radio waves. She won't be wearing it 24/7 for the rest of her life.

Five days worth of wear at about 8 to 10 hours at the most isn't going to cause cancer any more than limited exposure to the television or her iPod. (which is really my iPod but she thinks it's hers because it plays Mickey Mouse). That and it's not near her head like a cell phone is, instead you clip it to their waist band.

But then again, I'm not one of those moms who frets about those sorts of things. I worry more about her climbing on top of the dining room table and falling off. Or pulling the chair over to the door and unlocking the deadbolt and wandering out into the street. And yes, I watch her like a hawk, but she's lightening fast.

I did get a call this morning from Big Leap and the GPS unit is on its way, should be there tomorrow for our arrival on Wednesday. I told the guy I hoped that I wouldn't have to call and talk to him again! It is all about the peace of mind.

Like I said, I'll come back after our trip and give a report on it for others like me, who have fast moving kids!

Regular GPS, which does not transmit a signal back, is fine - the radiowaves are out there going through us all the time. I'm just wondering about one that tracks itself as well - that's all. This researcher just put the fear in me, and I don't trust what the manufacturers or federal regulators tell us. Hey, they still OK cigarettes, allowed DDT and BPA.

Updating with my quick review.

Fortunately, we did not NEED to call the hotline to locate DD. So I can't tell you how that worked.

But the device is small, about the size of a folded cell phone. And they provide a holder and safety pin. The best place I found for DD was to pin it in the back of her shorts or in her diaper cover. I tried in her pocket but she kept pulling it out and trying to play with it. But she's 18 months old, so take my advice with a grain of salt. She does what she wants to

One problem that we did have was at the Beach Club when we checked in. Since they ship via USPS, it will be sent to the front desk. Usually they will deliver to your room, but in our case the box got lost. We had to go our first half-day without the GPS until the Beach Club staff located it. TOTALLY not the fault of Big Leap, but something for you to be aware of when you check in.
