We were supposed to get swarms of them in my county/state, but i've not seen one....what's going on?

Oh they are headed your way as we speak

They are just waiting for the beaches to open at da shore

They are just finishing up here but I did not get ONE in my neighborhood, yet just 10 miles north of me there are tons of them. Despite all that, I never got to see a *swarm*.

I think ours just finished up here too. We've had several days of torrential rains and it seems to have cleared them out. They were definitely a swarm here....and deafeningly loud. I vaguely remember them from 17 years ago, but I don't remember the "clouds" of bugs like we had this year. Wow. Oh well, in 2021 I'll be retired and deaf so they shouldn't be a problem..... :p

We seem to be all done here.

It's funny, the crescendo was supposed to get worse in June, but the end of May was by far and away the worst. Everything seemed to calm down immediately in June.

We saw two last summer - go figure - I guess they were the scouts. They must not have liked it here because we don't have any this year;)

Hillbeans,

We haven't gotten them here either and we're about 30 miles north of you. For us I think it's because our development was built after the last time they were here so most of the trees and all the topsoil where the eggs would have been is gone. Are you in a fairly new development? If so that might be the reason. I think downtown Princeton got a fair share of them.

I read that there are different "broods" that have different life cycles. One or more smaller groups will be out each year...some with a 5 or 10 or 12 year cycle. It's just the 17 year brood that is so big as to cause this much stir.

Maybe they are on their way to you. They have finally left us alone! It's weird... it''s actually quiet outside!

I never got them either, to my chagrin.:( I did, however, scoop up a few dead ones to take along during my travels last weekend. That is until my traveling companion got annoyed at my penchant to keep dead things. So I ended up tossing them out of the window!

None here on the west coast....

But we have earthquakes so I guess they dont like to rock and roll in bed!

We didn't get them here, yay! But, we had them a few years ago. Maybe not in STL, but when I was in college in Mid-Missouri. They were horrible.

minniepumpernickel! ROTFLOL! :p

Not a one here, and only one last year. :)

We haven't had any either and we're not in a new development. Our house has been here almost 50 years.

None here yet either. But we don't usually hear them until August anyway.

None here and I don't remember us ever getting any in this area.

NY State along Lake Erie.
