Taking Steps Against Breast Cancer?

I just registered on-line to do the one in my community. The pledge collecting is different and that is why I am aksing if anyone else is doing it. To collect pleges, you send an e-mail with a link that they can go to and make an on-line pledge.
Persons who are participants can track their pleges on a personal registration password.
Has anyone heard of this before? More so the on-line plege thing not so much the walk it self.
I am used to collecting pleges with a pledge sheet.

Val, I haven't checked this particular one out, but my nephew has collected pledges online for other events--Terry Fox, maybe? (one of the sis's will correct if I'm wrong) It was great because I got an email with my receipt immediately in my inbox! Where and when will you be walking?

I will be walking in Cornwall on the 26th of September, in memory of my mom, who lost her battle on July 27th of this year.

:sad1: Val, I'm sorry to hear that your mom lost that battle. I don't often get to the Community Board. Does OK still do the thread in the mornings? Not that I have time for that, either.

Congrats on walking for your mom. I'm sure that she is watching over you. Hope you and your family are doing well and that school has been a good start.

I just donated money to the Cancer Society online. My friend was participating in the dragon boat races at Ontario Place on the Labour Day weekend and they were asking for pledges for the Cancer Society. I had never done it before but it's great; it's so easy and it's nice getting the receipt so quickly!

That's great that you're walking for your mom and I agree too that she'll be watching you, cheering you on! I'll be participating in the Run for the Cure in Toronto on Oct 3. It's so neat to see so many people supporting such a good cause. Have fun on your walk!

Thanks for the responses! I feel better about it now that I know it is more common.

Debbie, OK does not do the riddle anymore, someone else has taken over. I don't often get the the CB myself as RL has been busy.
School will be challenging this year, I have a DD Behaviour class.
Thanks for the good wishes!

Hi,

I did the "Weekend to End Breast Cancer" in Vancouver in August. We had (still do) individual webpages. I could go into my webpage and put a photo, and a blurb which I could update. I could upload my address book from outlook and then send emails to all my friends, family and colleagues etc explaining what I was doing, and give them the link to my page.

Then they could log on in their own time, read the whole website, go to my page and make a donation by using a credit card. Of if they wanted to send a cheque they could print a donation form. They could make a one off donation, or they could set it up to take a certain amount weekly, biweekly or monthly.

Everytime someone made a donation, I would receive an email to tell me that a donation had been made. Then I could log onto my page and it would show me who made the donation and how much, and then I could send a thank you email.

On my page there was a counter - which everyone could see- that showed my goal $2000.00, what my current total is $3074.00, name of people who had made donations, and the amount of their donation (they could chose to hide the donation amount).

I loved it, I didn't have to worry about collecting pledges and sending them. My page kept track of who I had sent emails to, how many emails I had sent, if they had made a donation, if I had sent a thank you.

As long as the organisation and the cause is legit, then I wouldn't be concerned about using it.

If you would like to see what my page looked like I can send you the link.

Rachael

I also did the "Weekend to End Breast Cancer" walk but it was here in TO last weekend. The web pages were great, because you didn't have to worry about collecting and counting money.

The girl I walked with even took all her cash pledges and posted them immediately on line with her credit card and deposited the cash in her bank account to pay her Visa. The web pages were instantly updated.
