Has anyone had to file a complaint?

People who get mad because people in wheelchairs get on faster are just jealous! Get a life (or be glad you have your life!) I can only imagine being in a wheelchair is not fun!

Advice to people in wheelchairs before you go on the rides stop by city hall and get a disabled pass for you and the number of people with you, you won't have any problems getting on rides quickly... Or so i've been told

I agree.

Remember in the spring when a tornado ripped through Washington DC and temporary tents were twisted off their posts and fell of school children....and one died. Well, during that storm I was trapped under a tent with a broken ankle.

Now in 8 days I leave for DL.

One of the reasons we choose DL for my birthday trip was because it is compact.

I am planning to walk with my cane because I don't wish to deal with people like the insensitive who have posted here. Just imagine how much more comfortable I would be in a wheelchair. I will always have the option of renting one if needed.

No, you cannot see the bones were once broken or the problems I am still having with the ankle. Would I be one of those people who were taking advantage of the system?

I am happy you all have the ability to come and go without pain. Your time will come eventually. I sincerely hope it's a long way off for you....because walking in pain is something I would wish on no one.

edited to add....

I'm sorry if this is harsh....I guess some here hit a nerve.

Mouseaholic! Please rent a wheelchair or ECV to make your trip more magical. I go to DL all the time and rent an ECV off-site and have NEVER felt uncomfortable that I was being judged by others that I didn't need it.

Maybe folks in California are just more tolerant . . . . .

There is no reason for you to be in pain during your wonderful trip to "Walt's Park."

And have a wonderful birthday!

While we could go on for days debating who needs a wheelchair, who wants to "beat the system", who is mean (apparently me), and whose opinions we must all share (apparently those who are mad), the spirit of the original thread should be observed. Posters should realize that everyone is entitled to their OPINION, not just yours, and to be self-righteous about who is mean or nasty or has a better life or whatever, is really very silly.

For the person who said they wouldn't get a wheelchair when they suffered a broken ankle, that is just a ridiculous idea - don't be a martyr certainly.

My opinion of fat, or overweight, or large people using wheelchairs and therefore getting themselves and their entire party in line very quickly was very poorly thought-out and shouldn't have been shared. I do believe this discussion board is a way of sharing opinions and even knowledge of certain things...please respect others' opinions (that is all they are after all) and they will respect yours. Having a lively debate (which is what this is designed for) is great; berating someone is not.

My heart goes out to those who suffer and to spend a day at Disney, well, nothing could be better. For those on their soapboxes, please step down. To demonize someone because of a few observations they have made is as bad as what you are accusing me of doing. I would like to encourage everyone to not discuss wheelchairs or ECV's or front of the line passes anymore...how about naming a cast member or an experience that made your time at DL exceptional?

I agree to a point...I get really frustrated when a perfectly healthy F*A*T person uses a wheelchair and then goes to the front of the line. Call me nasty, but that infuriates me.

A healthy F*A*T person is an oxymoron. Keep in mind that some people have problems that aren't seen on the surface. DL and WDW are suppose to be a place where magic happens. If the people that need special assistance are made to feel special for a day, I don't see what the big deal is. I am sure that they would trade being able to walk the park and ride all the rides with their family if they could. I say be grateful for what you have and hope that you never need a special pass.

I think the term 'fat' - or F*A*T, or whatever the heck we are talking about - is derrogatory to use on this board in and of itself, medically correct or not. I believe the term I have seen people use in other threads is 'Pooh-sized.' It may seem silly, but it comes across as less offensive overall.

Yeah, I think most of my experiences at DL, dating back to my childhood, have been positive. I cannot think of anything off-hand that was really complaint-worthy. I mean, the things that happen to get on all our nerves - like the massive crowds and heat and high prices - are not really anything that I would complain to a Cast Member about because they are not responsible. Now, if one of them was rude to me for some unknown reason, or almost bonked me on the head with a gate, then I might complain!:goodvibes

I did call guest services to complain about an issue I had with a GAC for my daughter, and the response was wonderful. I explained the situation, and the CM offered us free parkhopper tickets and a free night in the Disneyland Hotel (that is where we had been staying). The customer service response was amazing in my opinion. The CM took the time to really listen to what had happened to us, and took care of it from there. I called them after we had already gotten home, so we used the tickets and room for another trip.

It was wonderful because we got home from the trip thinking that maybe that was it for us for Disneyland--and the follow up customer service we received totally turned things around for us.

We have been there many times since then, and while nothing is perfect--we always have a great time at Disneyland and have never had any complaints since then.

The last two areas where it is okay to be predigest is about Old People and FAT People. I think we should turn it around. Blonde blue eyed people should never be allowed to use hair spray to get those Bat Wings on either side of there head. EWWWW Green eyed people are Should never be allowed to wear a bathing suit they might blind the rest of us. And Stupided people should never be allowed to share their opinions ever any where least of all on Disney Boards....:scared1: :scared1: :sad2:

actually Sherry--and not trying to drag down the thread at all--I don't mind the term "fat"--it is what it is. Short and sweet. My issue was with the implication that fat=lazy that was in a prior post.

For example, I don't like to ride the roller coasters--and when people ask why I say, "it's because most times when you hear of someone go flying out of one of those suckers it's usually a short, fat woman . . . . !" LOL--I'm serious. I'm sure it's something about the physics of the body and how they fit in the ride.

So now that I have totally hijacked this thread- I will try to get back on track. I have never made a complaint at City Hall.

I did complain to the manager of the Grand Californian last April when I felt like there was a lack in our stay (and our experience at Ralph Brennan's) for my birthday trip.

He promised to follow up and get back to me. He tried to make amends--but I really didn't want amends, I wanted an explanation for the behavior.

I'm still waiting for my explanation.

Have thought about following up, but frankly have been back to DLR many times since then (I have a PAP) and had good experiences. Of course, I'm staying at the GAC again in two weeks so we'll see what happens then . . . .

On the other hand, I read somewhere that now if you write a letter of complaint about a park, it gets returned to you unopened. Has anyone experienced that? It seems ridiculous to me, but one never knows . . . .

Oh, I didn't even notice anything about 'fat' in your earlier post(s), Toocherie! I just kind of skimmed the thread/posts and then started reading intently when it began to get heated, and it was another poster who originally brought up the 'F' word (can't even recall who at this moment). I recalled seeing other threads on here in the past where people referred to larger-sized people as 'Pooh-sized' folks, and to me, that seemed much more pleasant and light-hearted just in case there is anyone out there who gets offended by talk of fat people.

Let me know what happens at the GCH when you go. We had a pretty nice time there last year and they were pretty generous in handing out little trinkets for the b-day celebration. Nothing major, but we didn't ask for anything. Maybe you had requested some certain things you didn't get? I am curious.

Thanks!

I have the number to call if I need it --- hoping I don't, however.

I just wish others understood what it is like for those of us you can no longer keep up as well as we did when we were 16.

Watching the Olympics recently all I could think of is all the replaced hips, knees and shoulders those adorable little gymnasts will have by the time they are 40!!! HAHAHAHAHA

well--don't know about the other things, but double replaced knees wasn't that bad!!!!!!

I'm very sorry to you all. I just had thoughts and didn't communicate them as I had hoped to. I didn't mean to cause any of this, and didn't mean to add this hostility to your post J*e*n. My apologies to everyone who I have upset. Are we cool?:thumbsup2

Wow- I'm quickly wishing I never opened this post.

... I was just wondering so I thought I'd ask others.
By the way- as far as posting in the middle of the day- it's called breaks at work. :surfweb:

that was.

interesting.

My bro has a mental handicap. He walks, can function but can NOT stand in a line for very long. (Well couldn't when we last went, he could now)

We had a CM argue with us that he wasn't really handicapped. Um. You can tell when you look at him. I guess to that CM you aren't handicapped UNLESS you have a wheelchair LOL

So wait di dyou say what your problem was OP?

No, it was good for you to open the post, J*e*n! It is interesting information to know based on others' experiences. For some reason, some hostility, judgment, personal and underlying anger came out on this thread that was not warranted at all, and really not in the spirit of Disney at all!

On to the next topic - hopefully, a happier one!

Did you have a GAC? If so, the CM was in the wrong and you should have asked for a supervisor. If not, you were extremely fortunate to have CMs break the rules for you throughout your visit and happened upon one that was actually just doing his job correctly.

I would imagine that so many people think about reasons that they should not have to wait in line. (I am NOT saying you did not have a legitimate reason.) Where does a CM draw the line? That's why DL has the GAC system. It removes the inconsistency factor and makes it so that all guests are treated the same, based on their situation.

It's sort of like the clerk at a store with a no-returns policy. If one clerk allows you to return something, is the one that actually follows the policy bad?

Yes, we had a GAC. We showed it to her. No one was "breaking rules" just for us. It's where they told us to go, we never even asked. This was for SEVERAL days of the trip. So obviously some CM's are trained to do different things on that ride. Sounds like poor training on their part.
