I'm going in April for my 1ST trip home at BLT. We had been staying at GF Concierge level for the past few years. ( we got really spoiled. LOl) So we are intending to get Mousekeeping in every day to clean our studio. I've been hearing some not so good things about the cleaning done for DVC members. If we are paying for it... will they do a good enough job to justify the money we will be paying for the service.

Any thoughts??

as my housekeeper at home told me when she saw the pics of "clean" for DVC Mouskeeping
"Oh no Miss Mishell that really SUCKS!" LOL and she said it like she ment it :rotfl2:

I say dont pay the extra we did because we had our grandchild with us , and it was 2 bd . We wont do it again

Mousekeeping's version of cleaning: Take out trash. Take the used towels, Replace with fresh. Make the beds (linens are not replaced every day) visually scan the floor for debris and if there's a significant amount that picking up by hand won't do, trudge out the vacuum.

To my dismay, our housekeeper on our full cleaning day did attempt to wash the dishes I had in the sink. She simply rinsed what I had there and left them on the counter. I had to re-wash them all.

I look at them as ... er... assistants. It's my job to clean the room, they just tidy up a bit. I wouldn't pay more. Cleaning a few dishes, washing towels as needed and pushing the vacuum a bit on my own won't ruin my vacation.

Twinkle ... at least they tried to drag out the vaccume for your room  For us she did nothing really . She did load the dishes in the dish washer but didnt even turn it on LOL

We too had stayed concierge at gf, bc, bwv and cr for years before switching over to dvc. While we miss the concierge services and treats, the housekeeping has not been an issue. We have not had extra housekeeping due to some of our friends recommending not to, and with the exception of a couple of extra towel loads (i do a lot of laundry anyway, cannot stand dirty clothes, and with 4 kids, that adds up), windexing the table and counter-top and running an occasional vaccuum, i have been happy not to have them in the room. I am one of those freaks who cleans everything up before the housekeeper comes anyway (both at resorts and at home), and my kids are happy to pitch in a little if they can leave their room with their stuff out.

Bottom line, if you are a clean freak, you will spend a little time doing what they do, but........at your family's convenience, and it takes less than 10 minutes even in a two bedroom.

Good luck with the decision!!

I am one of those who really does not want them in "my" home cleaning. I did pay for a full cleaning one time in a 2 bedroom unit when we had guests changing. I needed it so we could have fresh linens for the new guests. It was a total waste of money!!! They did put fresh linens on the bed...in the second bedroom only. They didn't vacuum, they didn't do any other cleaning that I could see, and they didn't replace the linens for the pull out. I complained because even the cereal crumbs were still on the counter from the younger guests who left after we did for the day. They came back and cleaned while I was there, and what I saw made me decide I should probably clean when I arrive too. At least at AKV, they have no idea how to clean! She mopped the kitchen with a dry mop by pushing the dirt onto the living room carpet, where she then vacuumed the traffic pattern only. I complained the second time, and then they decided to take the charge off.

I don't change my towels daily at home, and I make my bed as soon as I get out of it in the morning. I do the same thing on vacation. It's a "home away from home", and no one comes in to do those things for me at home.

It's funny, but we've gotten very used to travelling this way - as a "home away from home" - since we joined DVC. It would have been unthinkable not to have daily housekeeping before, but it really wasn't a big deal to keep your home habits of making the bed, cleaning the dishes and kitchen when going on vacation. And not having people in your room "cleaning" is now a good thing for us. We've started choosing more vacation villa rentals or timeshare rentals more places that we go.

In fact, we stayed at SSR this past January on the 4/3 deal, and completely forgot that it meant we'd get daily housekeeping. If we were in the room when they showed up, we'd just tell them not to bother.

The only thing I do like with the full clean is having them clean the bathroom. It's just a job we don't like to do, and I've never had any complaints with how well the bathrooms have been cleaned, so I'm happy to have that done on full clean days.

I really love vacationing in a style that make you feel like it is a real home in a place where you are relaxing and having fun.

With a full cleaning day, you should get fresh bed linens.

On T&T days, they only sometimes make up the beds, (no fresh linens) that is not part of the service. T & T is trash, towels and soaps only, anything else they do that day is above and beyond what the service is supposed to be.

We do not order daily but we sometimes order a day or two depending on length of trip. Results have been mixed. Often they do fine but there have been issues (had one who apparently just decided to leave midway through the clean and never come back. When we returned at night the dishes were not done, there was a trash bag just sitting near the wall off the kitchen and in the master bedroom the bed had been stripped but not remade).

Nevertheless one of the more recurring problems we have is that Housekeeping apparently has a hard time dealing with a full service request. Too often we have called housekeeping two days before we want a full cleaning and then no one shows up on that day and then you call housekeeping and they immediately go into the spiel about daily service not being included with DVC and when you tell them you specifically ordered it they say they have nothing showing that we did so (amazingly I once actually reached the same person I had ordered from and she claimed there was nothing to show I had made the order). That has happened often at both AKV and BWV, the two which we go to, so the problem is apparently systemic. That problem has a good side -- they then do a cleaning for free. We have also found that if you order any daily service in advance as part of your reservation, housekeeping NEVER becomes aware of it. Likewise if you check-in and order a day while doing so at the front desk, housekeeping NEVER gets that request either. You just have to call housekeeping directly to get any service.

I agree we should get fresh bed linens, however on both full service days we've had the beds were not made up anew. The housekeepers merely took the blankets off, folded them, remade the bed and put the pillows back up (my son's stuffed animal was in between the sheets once and another time it was my cell phone). No big deal to me as I only wash the sheets once a week at home, not after 3 nights - but if we stayed longer I'd have been doing them myself.

If we think that we don't need it, on our stay in Dec. we will do without. Like I said... I don't have a problem paying as long as they do a good job. I really don't want to make the bed every day. That's why I like being on vacation. LOL

During our trip in December to BLT, our first trip as DVC members, I did order trash and towel service each day. We were staying in a 2BR and I didn't want to pay for the full cleaning each day, but we had 2 families and 5 children under age 7 with us so it was really nice to have the T&T serice daily for our travel group. It seemed like a happy medium to me, and wasn't quite as expensive as the full cleaning would have been and I will consider doing that again for future trips. I agree with PP though, I did have to call housekeeping upon our arrival to remind them I had ordered daily services with MS when making our reservation and they did not have record of this, so I would call them if you wish for additional services. We too love the MK and monorail so had stayed prior years at Poly and GF, and we loved our stay even more than I had imagined this year at BLT!!!! Absolutely our new favorite and so glad we decided to join DVC.:cheer2: My only problem now is that I want to add on more points so we can go more often.......Have a great trip!
