Has anyone gone to Spirit of Aloha?

I just booked it for my trip in October and I was wondering what everyone thought of Spirit of Aloha? Is it worth all of that money? I'm very excited about going.

I booked it today for our May trip!!! I AM VERY EXCITED AS WELL !! My luck since it is the only PS I have made everyone will say it is the worst thing ever..LOL

We have done the luau twice and loved it both times.The meal is served family style and our favorite so far has been the ribs.The show we thought was good but others on here will disagree with that.

i had gone to the old polynesian luau show many a time & loved it! however when me & my fiance went to the new luau in november 2003, i was sadly disappointed, they changed the show alot, in my opinion to the worse, because it no longer had a authentic polynesian act, but a hokey cast of teenage antics like the cast rapping, and hand slapping. we asked for our money back 20 minutes in, although we were told the last skit had hula dancing, we got a partial refund because we couldnt take another hour & a half. i wish they would bring the old show back.

sorry to pop any bubbles, everyone is entitled to his & hers, i've heard of others who love the new show.

The last time we were there was years ago but the show was pretty good. The food wasn't anything to write home about. But I'm sure you'll have a great time.

BTW I would have done the same thing. I must've gone before they changed it because I would've remembered that show. That's ridiculous! They were rapping and hand slapping?! Wow.

We were just talking about this over the week-end with another family that had done the Luau the year before we did. We all felt the show was fine. Well, that's not quite right...my dh hated it, but he hates theater of any kind (grumpy old poop!). But we all agreed that the food was mediocre at best. But I thought there was plenty of authentic dancing going on. Yes, there was a more modern plot to the show but it had many different styles of Polynesian dance, from different areas. Would we do it again? No, probably not. We did do HDDR and dd wants to do that one again. I couldn't care less.

I have to agree with twojo21. It was so hoaky! We left right after eating and didn't even stay for the whole show. I wished I would have asked for a refund, but we just left.

Different folks like different things, though, so this is just my family's opinion.

We have seen both shows.DD 13 likes the new show better because they did roller coaster song from Stitch and Rock a hula from elvis.I liked it because it had a little of everything,fire dancer, and different styles of hula.

Those who didn't stay missed a wonderful show -- great hula dancing, Tahitian dancing and fire dancing.

I agee 110% the Luau is NOTHING like it once was.
I would wager the root of the problem is the way the WD company is now run... hint, hint.
The Luau once had delicous food from fresh isle type fruit and tropical hot breads when you entered to salads, to 3 various main entrees.. Hawaiian ribs, a delicous seafood medley dish and a chicken dish. Use to have wonderful deserts.
Now all the food is generic and taste generic from all reports. I haven't wasted my money on the new show, but EVERYONE down here in Florida (long time WDW fans) all agree the Luau is horrible now.
It use to be a very festive occassion similar to a real luau in Hawaii with all greeters and perfomers native Hawaiians. The show was going through polynesian dance/music history. Everything from New Zealand dances, to fire dancers to the glamour of Hawaii from the movie era.
I'm only in my 30s but some of mine and my other relatives my own age fav Disney memories were from the original luau.
I have to say this is the way the company is going. There USE to be all sort of fantastic restraunts at the Poly (and the other hotels) now they are atmosphereless hole in the wall with drab menus and high prices for what you get. Take for instance the KONA cafe, there use to be the best little restraunt that this one replaced. All kind of real Poly Style food including riblets imported from Hawaii plus decorated in REAL Hawaiian colorful motifs course its gone.

I remember how GREAT disney was and want to see it back in its glory not the noisy, tasteless cheap cheeze that some of these talentless peeps have remade it.
This may sound strong but its true. I've been to Disney at least 1000xs plus since the 1970s and the last decade has seen a major decline in my opinion.

I don't know did I make the wrong move? - I thought that the dinner would be a lot of fun. Those of you that have answering saying it wasn't as good as it used to be - would you still not like it if it was your first time?

I have nothing to compare it against - I was hoping it would be fun to go to it....We are going on our honeymoon and want to make things as special as possible (we would never be able to afford V&A).

SAve yourself some money and disappointment--cancel. The show is just ok and the food was not good at all. For half the price you could go to Ohana--better food, no bugs and air conditioning.

Well I am keeping my PS and if it is bad I will learn from my mistakes. I hear they have bottomless beer, if it is too bad I will just drink a few pitchers and it will all be good again...LOL JUST KIDDING I will have my babies with me..

I haven't been in many years and it was good then but I have heard mixed reviews.I would try it, worse thing that can happen is you know not to do it again. I agree with a previous post that Ohana is excellent, outstanding food, and fun to eat there and very tropical as well.I would go though to the luau and try it..You never know..You may love it! I hope you have a great time!

We thought the storyline not so good, but the dancing & dancers' costumes the same or better than the previous show. On the night we went the food was much better than the previous show. Loved the bread, salad, grilled veggies & chicken-the ribs were good,too. Didn't care for the wine--really liked the fruity drink they used to serve with the meal.

You mention you are going on your honeymoon. The seating at the luau is in big groups, there are no tables for two, you will be sitting with other people at your table. This may not be a big deal for you, but my DW and I decided we wanted something more intimate when we ate. We went to O'Hana's, and although it is a very festive atmosphere, we had a nice table for two next to the windows with a great view of the beach and the fireworks.

If you go with an open mind, you'll probably have a good time. Much of what is being said is by those who miss the old Luau. You'll also notice that just about every opinion on the boards goes one way or the other - different strokes for different folks. I almost booked the Luau this trip, but decided against it. Too many bad reviews - I still miss Mickey's Tropical Luau. (which others hated by the way) I hope you'll come back with a review and let us know how it goes. Have fun!
