Has anyone flown Song yet...????

The plane boards from front to back. Of course I understand that the flt attendants' top priority is safety/emergency training and not food service, but the group of attendants on our return trip did not seem to include a seasoned one in the bunch. I wouldn't expect a new airline to run effortlessly in it's beginning stages, however the contrast between our two flights was amazing! I didn't think the legroom was much greater than on the old planes-American Airlines is much roomier.

The legroom is 2" greater than Delta Express, but only 1" greater than your typical domestic Delta aircraft.

after having to re-issue my tickets after they canceled my flight i ended up with a $14 flight voucher can i use this to by food on the flight or is it only good for my next airline ticket:rolleyes:

we flew on Song JFK-MCO the first week of June.
they haven't completely finished with their new planes yet, so the plane on the way there had the Song interior ready, but the exterior was still the old Delta design. the plane back was Song decorated inside and out.

anyway, yes the seats are slightly more comfortable than normal coach seating. nice leather seats. very colorful interior design, heh.

there was some glitch with our reservation, so we weren't able to print out our boarding passes at home.
when we got to the Song terminal at JFK, we were confused at first about where their check-in area is. you have to walk a fairly long distance and turn around the corner.
that's when you see the empty check-in area w/ absolutely no lines, and a row of pretty shiny new check-in kiosks. ;)
just insert your Delta Skymiles card or the credit card you used to book your flights, and then you can check-in, print boarding passes, etc.

Song's gate area at JFK could use some better food options. there was a fast-food chinese place, and a tiny bakery place. that's it.

the boarding zones do seem to go from front to back of the plane, but i'm not positive that it's as simple a pattern as that.
since Song is all coach class, i believe the first people that board are the ones that are seated in that section which in regular airlines is considered First class.

Song has not yet completed installing their individual TVs for each seat yet. instead, on our flights, they had a limited number of Game Boy Advances that passengers could borrow for the duration of the flight. preference was given to children first, and then any adults who wanted one could request one.

food/beverage Menus are distributed at the beginning of the flight, and there were things like Cinnabon for breakfast, sandwiches (provided by Pizzeria Uno's?) for lunch and dinner, chips/snacks, and liquor etc.
the only things that are still free are regular drinks such as Coffee, Tea, or Coca-Cola products such as some juices and sodas.

i do have to agree with one of the earlier comments on this thread that Song is trying way too hard to be "hip" and "cool".
it wasn't so bad on our flight down.
but the return flight, there was this annoying flight attendant who thought she was so funny, but she had the most horrible comic timing. the flight attendants kept cracking jokes (like dumb blonde jokes) at each other, and making fun of each other.
plus there was this overly forceful intro at the beginning.
something like, "Welcome on board Song. Let me introduce you to some new terms you'll be hearing. This is no longer considered a flight; it's an EXPERIENCE! And you are not passengers, or customers, you are our GUESTS! And we are not called flight attendants, or stewardesses anymore; we are called TALENTS!"

i mean, we're all Disney fans here, and we understand about how Disney calls us "Guests", and Disney staff are called "Cast Members" etc. but Disney never FORCES that stuff on us.
sheesh.

anyway, besides their trying too hard thing, our experience with Song (pun intended  ) was pretty good.

if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.
hope this helps!

Disneyberry, when you say that you insert your Skymiles card, can't you still check in at a desk with clerks and they will give you your boarding passes? Thanks for all your feedback.

We flew Song's first flight from BOS -MCO. Some people on the plane were confused about Song. "What is Song, isn't this Delta?" We found the flight attendants great. Traveling with a carseat is never fun and they actually helped . 'Haven't experienced that in a while. We checked in at the little kiosks. I had experienced them on my AA trip to Anaheim in May so I was familiar but my sister was not and had no issues. I did see people behind some of the checkin counters but using the machines was very fast. Flying down we were on the soon to be defunct 7:20 am flight and returned to BOS on the 11:25am so we experienced breakfast and Lunch time set up. Going down we didn't buy anything (no Cinnabuns) but coming home I purchased what turned out to be this huge turkey sandwich for I think $7. They give you this menu and you can select items from it. So far I have had great success with Song from the 800 number people (even though it's Delta folks they are super friendly - no sullen voices yet :p ). On the trip home my gate checked stroller was moved to baggage claim  and they were terrific tracking it down. We fly them again in December so that should be interesting with all of the audio/media stuff available. The kids also got to use the Gameboy Advance which of course blew our little ol' Game Boy Color away - I travel for business and I enjoyed the vibe but I can also see if the little script isn't done well it could get really old fast. The folks on our flight seemed very happy to be there - no fake smile, frozen glazed look. They mention that they had to "audition" for their jobs in the Song division, so I was surprised that an earlier poster felt the flight attendants seemed inexperienced. Ours seemed seasoned at their job - just that the script was new...Hope this helps. Let me know if you want anything more specific and I'll try to recall.

We're flying Song this August. After having Delta and Song change my flights about 4 times, I can actually say I'm very happy with Song. I talked to them yesterday to find out about changing to an earlier flight. I was figuring it would cost about $150 for the three of us, but since we really didn't want to get into Orlando at 6 pm, thought it would be worth the extra money. Talked with a terrific rep. Was able to get the flight I wanted for only $76 for the 3 of us. Seats aren't as good, but I can live with that. So, we're looking forward to seeing how the flight will be.
For those of you that have used the kiosks.....did you have baggage to check? Or is it easier to curb-side check-in. We're fllying out of Logan. THanks.

We typically do curbside check in at Logan but this trip we didn't have bags to check. The bag check at the kiosks looked fairly easy. It's the same process - we just answered 0 to bags checked vs. a number. Much easier than the horrid line in terminal C. ;) Next trip we'll do curbside if there isn't a big line just because you are right there but if there is a line we'll go in and use the kiosk.

Jillpie, there isn't really a counter with clerks behind the desk anymore.
the counter is completely lined with e-kiosks.

there are some clerks there to help you use the machines, but really Song is pushing for people to learn using e-kiosks themselves.

we hardly ever check any bags when we travel, so unfortunately we don't have any feedback about the bag-check system.

In terminal C to the right it looks the same with the medallion check in and baggage check in and then to the left are the Song kiosk machines. If you have been in terminal B at the AA counter it looks pretty similar only Delta area is much larger. Just as Disneyberry said the Song kiosks had people behind some of the kiosks to assist but I thought there was also a line to counter directly for those who didn't use the kiosk but that may have been for the first day only. I do know that there were Song passengers who did not use the kiosks. Kiosk activiation is by any credit card - since we'd used my miles this trip my sister put in her cc and then accessed her records by her locator id. Anyone else fly out of Logan recently? Our trip was the first weekend in June so it may have changed in subsequent weeks.

One thing to keep in mind is carry on - Logan security was strictly enforcing the carry on. I had an extra tote with only my 35mm camera in it and I had to put it into my bag. It was small but I guess since it had handles?? When we left MCO there was a family in front of us who had so much stuff we were there for 20 minutes, no way would they have made it through Logan.

We also flew Song from BOS to MCO on June 8 and returned June 15. Our experience on both flights was excellent, although they did run out of breakfast food (cinnabons) on the trip down. Seating was comfortable and I thougth the plane seemed quieter than Delta Express last year. The "talents" were friendly and I didn't find them obnoxious or inexperienced. The overhead bins seem to be bigger (taller) than other planes I have been on.

We used the kiosk at BOS and curb-side at MCO. Both worked out well. I had my Delta Frequent Flier card and was able to retrieve our information. The only thing I wished I had done was check the weight limits prior to getting to the airport. One suitcase weighed 54 pounds and we had to pay an extra $25 for it. We re-arranged things for the trip home and didn't have to pay anything extra.

We will definitely use Song again. Feel free to ask questions.

BCVOwner2002- when they boarded the plane, did they do the usual "children, people who need assistance" first deal? I'm travelling in August with 2 kids and my M-I-L who always has problems getting going with things like this, and to top it off, she hasn't been on a plane for 30 years.
Also, I thought they were changing all the planes over to 757's, Delta Express used 737's; are they any bigger really, or are the planes the same size, with just fewer rows?

(Good to see a neighbor on the boards, too :) )

Thanks

The Song 757's handle about 200 people each compared with the Delta Express 737's that take about 120. So they are now running fewer larger planes in place of formerly more smaller planes. This means that a flight cancellation would have more impact on the passengers.

200 (199?) is a magic number where an additional flight attendant is needed for more passengers.

If you need more time to board, quietly ask first. (If denied, really nobody can keep you from taking the time you need when your turn comes, just don't say anything to anybody about it.)

Next WDW trip planned, Nov. 2003 via Song.

>>> And we are not called flight attendants, or stewardesses anymore; we are called TALENTS...]

Heard at Disney Quest, where I signed onto the Internet, found low fares, and immediately made my Song (Delta Express then) booking back in January: "This is not an elevator, its a Cybro-lator".

I will be flying them this Friday (6/27) on the 7:20am flight out of BOS. Looking forward to it. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

We flew JFK-MCO over Memorial day weekend and have to tell you they were super flts. I printed our boarding passes from home. To me it seemed like the boarding (zones) were set up as to how early you checked in. We were seated in row 3 and 4 and were the only ones there for at least 5 min.

I thought the crew was hysterical. They joked all the way down. The usuall safety notice was so funnnnny.
ex:
"I know you all know how to fasten a seat belt but it never hurts to have a refresher course....blah blah"

".....if you need any further assistance please ask ANOTHER hostess"
"....This is a rap, Thank you talents and Thank you for not falling asleep....We're dimming the lights to improve the visablity of your flt attentdents"

When we landed: "..talents check the doors, makeup, wallet..."

I guess you had to be there but this was much better than the same old boring routine.

I too, plan on printing my boarding passes the day before (tomorrow, for those of you looking at my count down clock :D )

Can I still do this if I am checking bags? I've got good seats and I want to be sure I am able to keep them so I figured I would get those boarding passes as soon as possible.

I don't know about other airlines, but for Song, the website says you can print your boarding pass online if you do not have to check any luggage. So if you're travelling with carry-ons only, you can check-in online.
From what I've been reading and hearing, the check-in kiosks are really quick and easy, and your tags for your checked bags are printed out from the kiosk. And then, i hope I'm not mistaken, there is a separate line for kiosk bags, so you don't have to be on the regular long line.
Wow, one day and you'll be at Disney! Have a wonderful time! We're off to Universal in a few days, but Disney is my favorite place!

So if I need to check baggage I CANNOT print my boarding pass from home but I AM allowed to use a Kiosk which will print my boarding pass AND luggage tags. WE attach the luggage tags?

Sorry, I am confused!

IMHO, with kids, I'll have checked luggage for a long time and I find doing curb-side check in is simple and easy, and I just tip the sky cap. I can't see waiting in the long line inside and I can't be bothered by the kiosks as of yet unless someone can convince me it's somehow better than the curb-side check in.

fyi...I fly out of Logan in Boston.

I can't give too much information on boarding the plane from BOS since our local limo driver never picked us up and we had to quickly drive to Logan. We got there 15 minutes prior to take off!!! When we were at MCO coming home, they appeared to be boarding by zones only. Hope this is helpful.

As for boarding passes, I believe the information listed above to be accurate. We had bags to check in and used the kiosk which was fast and painless.
