Ok-I know that I'm second guessing myself again-but, I just read a thread on another site that said that you can hear the waves from your cabin on Deck 2-and that it added to his motion sickness... Can anyone confirm this? This will be our first cruise on deck 2 and I was really hoping it would be our "magic" deck! My other option is deck 5 aft (we tried forward last year-it was terrible) we would have to go from connecting to adjoining. Any words of encouragement greatly appreciated!!

We have cruised on deck 2 seven times in a category 9 and have never heard the waves. You will feel some motion, but less than on higher decks. Midship is best for the least motion, but we always stay near the aft elevators. I think you will be fine.

On decks 1 and 2 you are very close to the water....a plus in my opinion and you can hear the waves at times which I love. We have stayed on Decks 1 and 2 several times and I felt no more motion there than on any other deck but motion sickness varies with any individual. I never feel it, even in very rough seas....I have a friend who cannot cruise because she is so sensitive to it.....

Deck 2 is very convenient to everything onboard. we have stayed in cabin 2546 a few times and really love the location...right near the atrium and we walk down the hall to the forward elevators which are hardly ever crowded down there and get up to decks 9 and 10 very quickly.

Getting back to your cabin is a breeze when coming back from a port....just one flight up and a walk down the hall...don't have to wait for the elevator!!!

Enjoy!!!

We too love both decks 1 and 2. Have never felt the waves really in either location. We love the convience of both decks.

Just to echo some of the comments here....we've stayed on decks 7, 5 and 2. On 2 we felt the least motion.

IF you are prone to seasickness, take drugs! You aren't going to stay in your cabin the whole time you're onboard the ship, so you'll also feel the movement in the dining room, in the theater, etc.

Last year we stayed on deck 2 for the first time, cabin 2000, the very first passenger cabin on the deck. We loved it. Several cast members asked if we felt the motion more there and frankly I'm not sure if we did or not. However, we like the motion, fortuneately none of us is prone to motion sickness. I'm on a ship at sea, I want to feel like I am. We could occasionally hear and see the waves. There was a little squall one night and we had water splashing against our porthole, which we thought was cool.

The only draw back, but not a big deal, is if your that far forward on the lower decks, you for sure hear the bow thrusters when docking. I kind of startled our youngest DS the night we left Key West, but never bothered us much. After all we understand we're on a ship and there are going to be noises.

MJ - Enjoy your upcoming cruise!

First off the lower you are on the ship the less motion. Second we have heard the waves many times and it just makes us sleep all the more better:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I am prone to motion sickness and we have just had a fabulous time in a deck 2 cabin.
I took meds the whole time but still had 2 occasions when I felt really sick. Both times were when we were on the higher decks so I just tootled down to the cabin and got into bed - ok I missed out on a few things but it's better than trying to struggle through it.

As for noise, all I heard was a faint humming which I presumed was the engines.
I read all the tips on sea sickness before cruising such as fresh air and looking at the horizon but that made me feel worse. I  my little cabin

Hopefully if we get to cruise again, I will be requesting the same room

On 4 or 5 of our cruises we've stayed on Deck 2. Never had any problem with motion sickness. We take BioBands with us but I have never used them. DH put them on the first night on the first cruise before heading to dinner, just in case, but never had a problem.

We liked trying the BioBands rather than pills or patches.

I always take this with us just in case. ;)

Thanks! DisneyDay-can I ask which cabin you were in? The closest connecting cabins that we could get were 2102 & 2104-is this near where you were? I wear the sea bands every time as well as taking phenergan tablets and I still feel terrible on sea days and sometimes at night as well. That being said-it's certainly not bad enough to give up cruising! Although, I would love to be able to eat more at dinner-I'm probably one of the few people to lose weight on a cruise!

We were 2076 which is more midship than 2102/4 but looking at the deck plans, your rooms are not too aft. I'm sure you'll be fine.
Another bonus is that on port days you are only down one flight of stairs to the tender lobby.
Enjoy your cruise

I'm staying on deck 2 for my upcoming back-to-back cruise. I'd say I don't really care what deck I am on as long as I am on the ship:lmao:

yikes, I'm on deck 7 and have never cruised. My daughter IS prone to motion sickness, even on long car rides. Any tips?

Can I assure you everything is relative, in fact deck 7 is fine, I traveled on deck 8 many times and there is no more motion than lower decks in fact is actually the opposite.

You get different opinions as the sea conditions for each cruise is actually different, if you cruise on deck 2 in glassy sea conditions it will feel fine the same as any other deck, but if the sea is rough you will see the difference.

Many people who are the professionals in cruising say the middle middle of the ship is the best, the advise of the ships doctor to my daughter was go to a 'higher' deck to avoid sea sickness and do not eat in the deck three restaurants.

There is a loyal 'fan club' of deck 2 so I avoided posting on this thread until the last post, but it is actually untrue that the lower the deck the less motion, in fact if you look at the 'fighting sickness' thread the opposite is mentioned by people in the know.

There has been people posting on other threads saying they were told deck 2 is fine, then came back and said it wasn't.

At this point I am sure I will ''open' a massive debate,

But I am my family have cruised a few times on lower decks, hated it, we felt seasick, and the motion of hearing the sea just outside our cabin wasn't nice. So now I personally only ever cruise on higher decks.

You have to ask the question, why do all cruise lines put there best and highest priced cabins at the top of the ship, its not just verandas and seaviews but less motion felt.

If you have a child's seesaw the middle middle moves less, the same as a ship, Also if you have a long pole/stick etc, and if you bang it the place that vibrates the most is were you come into contact with is, not the place furthest away from it. So where the sea touches the sea is the biggest vibration.

Many people have posted on other threads that they feel it in parrot Cay Lumière's and Animator's, but can eat on deck 9 and Topsiders, My DD is like this if its rough she cannot go to lower decks but is fine in our deck 8 room and eats with room service there, or Topsiders.

But everyone feels things different, but DO NOT WORRY, the top of the ship doesn't move more than anywhere else,

Second that, mostly it is a very individual thing. We've sailed on deck 8, 6 and 2 midship, forward and aft and really can't say we've noticed any difference under equal sea conditions. We have heard and been told by people prone to motion sickness to avoid watching the water during meals and focusing on things like the stage curtains in the Walt Disney Theatre. Watching those things move can bring on a bought with sea sickness.

Yes the ''natural' cure to seasickness is focusing on something, often its said looking at the widest view of the horizon is best, also take in fresh air, and drink light and eat light, water for example and not fatty stuff.

Seasickness is caused by 'confusion' of messages sent from your eyes and your ears to your brain saying different things, for some this just corrects there and then, instantly, others it doesn't and thats seasickness, various treatments suppress this, but the real way to cure is fresh air and looking at the horizon.

Now thinking of that, ( please no one take this as any flame on deck 2-its not) it is best to get a outside room with a veranda, or go to deck 4 or deck 9/10.

So people prone to seasickness actually lower decks is not the best,

But again, people feel things differently, and react differently, and each cruise is different so as said before, if you have calm seas, you will think your Cat was fine, and most cruises are calm.

An interesting side to this:-

Over the years I must have seen over 25 threads asking if you get seasick on deck 2, I have seen a few threads if you get seasick Forward or Aft, now as this OP asks there must be a reason for this question.

I have personally never seen the thread with a question if you get seasick on deck 5 or deck 6 or deck 7 or deck 8, I think that tells us something re perception of seasickness.
