Has anyone felt seasick on deck 2?

Disney put their kid clubs Deck 5 midship because that is where there was the least amount of motion--they knew kids were more susceptible to motion sickness and wanted to prevent whatever "protein spills" they could. You might take this into account if you get motion sickness. We were in 2129 and were pleased not to have any problems. We only felt a rocking motion twice during the week. We did have noise early on days when we were docking, but it didn't bother us much.

You are dead right, it was put there for two reasons, you reason re less motion sickness is one, the other is its the life boat deck and all views obstructed so use it for kids clubs.

The middle/middle of the ship is best, like my seesaw discription above.

Sorry first time cruiser. Only room left was 2004 deck 2 which is in the very front of the boat. Will this be more rocky or the same as deck 2 in the middle or back of the ship? Should we try to switch to someplace different on the boat?

Ok-so should I try to move??? Your theory sounds right-but I don't know where to move to! We tried both aft and forward on deck 7-didn't work. Forward deck 5-REALLY didn't work. I could move aft deck 5-should I try this? I probably need to decide quickly-thanks!!

We've done decks 2,6, &7 with deck 6 only 1 member of our family of 6 got sea sick, deck 7 no one, deck 2 every stinkin' one of us got sea sick. We will never again stay on a lower deck.

We were on the Christmas cruise on Deck 2 in the middle....never again:sick: If you or anyone in your travel party are prone to motion, car or sea sickness go higher up:thumbsup2

Andrew----thanks for responding. This site is really great to gather info. All of us will be on deck 7 and praying we do fine. I will keep the fresh air in mind and we do plan to buy patches, etc. Any tips on these?-M

One year we took a cruise at the end of March. A few days the ocean was pretty rough, and you could really feel the swaying when on the lower decks.

Hi,

I avoided posting anything on this thread, as there is a very loyal group of cruisers who love Deck 2, and I didn't want to start any argument, but when I saw your post and you were worrying, I had to correct and dispel the view that higher decks have more motion sickness vibration etc, that is just simply totally untrue.

If it was, all of the water would poor out of the pools on deck 9, now I have seen it rough and yes the pool water can move on those rare days but it is very interesting that after my post a number of others have now chipped in with agreement that you do feel motion more on lower decks.

Again lots of people love deck 2, and the services of food and entertainment is exactly the same on each Cat up to Cat 4.

But saying the best place to avoid motion sickness is deck true is untrue, I can quote the Magics ships doctor who I saw with my DD, go up higher do not stay down here, and why did they build a medical center down here??

So many threads are started asking this question is deck 2 OK for sickness? no one starts a thread to ask that re deck 5/6/7/8.

The best things are:-

  • The middle/middle of the ship is best.
  • The top decks do not move more than the lower decks
  • Forward is actually the worst place as it takes the impact of the waves.
  • Aft gets some but less than Forward.
  • For sufferers of seasickness, get fresh air, look at the widest view of the horizon.
  • Eat light, lots of water in small amounts.
  • No fatty or heavy food.

A veranda if its within your cruise budget will help, but remember most cruises do not have any rough seas so any cabin is OK in those conditions.

On patchs we do not use these, my DD gets bad Seasickness, but trys to stop it using natural methods above, but look at the fighting sesickness thread lots of people have posted their views on that.

Thank you so much for asking the question. We are thinking of taking a cruise. I am a sea-bands girl myself....to deck 2 is!

I think that like anything else there are lots of factors that go into these type discussions. What the seas are like on any given day, how a person is feeling, and whether they are already prone to motion sickness.

Since it's just DH and I on the cruises and we don't spend alot of time in the room, deck 2 oceanview works for us. If I had young children with me and needed to spend time in the room for naps I would want a veranda so I could be outside while they napped.

As long as I'm on the ship and it's pulling away from the dock, I'm happy. :woohoo:

Thanks for all of your replies! We tried to move last night-(quite willing to pay the difference!) but there really was nothing available for two cabins midship. The closest they could come was a Cat. 5 on deck 7 and a Cat. 11 for the kids down the hall. I'm not sure that I am comfortable with that-we've never cruised without connecting-so we are staying on Deck 2 for now-at least it is sort of midship-which we've never tried. I think I may try the Bonine this time as the phenergan really didn't work well the last time. Well, if I have to feel bad at least I'll feel bad on a Disney boat!

Remember the majority of the time the seas are very good in the Carribean the chances of bad weather is low this time of year.
