Has anyone ever packed more than a week early?

I have mostly new clothes so I could go ahead and pack now. Do the clothes get any more wrinkled if they are in the suitcase for almost 2 weeks? I am planning to roll them and use packing cubes for the first time so that will hold them in place.

I've been packed for 3 months....i'll send stuff to be pressed if need be, no biggie. But since this entire trip is a surprise to my DS I needed to have everything together and out of sight! :thumbsup2

Who unpacks?
I keep a bag packed in case of a last minute trip.
Just grab and go.

I leave in a week but have been packed for about a month. We havent needed our summer clothes here yet, so I put them in the suitcase I always pack early...as if that makes the time go by faster:hyper:

Are you kidding?! I am surprising my mom with a cruise IN DECEMBER!! and all she knows is that she needs to keep that week free - and make sure her passport is up to date. She is going crazy because she doesn't know what to pack NOW!!! :rotfl2:

I've been sending her "clues" - post cards from the ShipMates App from all over the place and plan on having the character call for Mother's Day - but she told my sister that she is getting really upset with me because I won't tell her where we're going. She's not sure she's going to have enough time to get all of her stuff together -- TO PACK!! :rotfl:

I'm such a mean daughter.... :joker:

And yes, I've started my "bucket" - as I see stuff on sale that we'll need on the cruise, I buy it and throw it in the bucket!

Soooo... pack away!

Michelle

I started my "cruise bucket" of items on sale in 2010 as soon as I stepped off our last DCL cruise. Boy, you should see my stuff now:rotfl:

I'm flying on Saturday to sail on Sunday. I'm trying to start packing because I know this week is going to be incredibly busy. But all that's in the suitcase so far are a few pairs of shoes and a hat that I never unpacked from the last trip. I'm usually a last minute packer (the night before would be early for me).

We almost always start packing about 30+ days in advance ... though mostly the little items needed ONLY for a cruise ... items not needed at home. That being said, we lay out out clothes about 2 weeks in advance. Rolling clothes is best at keeps clothes wrinkle-free. On the other hand, if you find something is really wrinkled, there is onboard laundry (including a free iron) OR ... you can have a garment PRESSED for about the same price as a local, land based cleaners (typically, about 1/2 the cost of having the item cleaned and pressed). With that in mind ... we have had NO issues with packing for the past 13 years of cruising. Only ONCE, did we ever have to get my tux pressed ... and that was only because I folded it several times into a Pullman (luggage), instead of using a garment bag. Most everything else is fine.
:yay:

My old saying is only wrinkles once.. so I usually pack early just so can go over it and be sure not forgetting anything. as we do not do laundry on vacation at all..might have to steam if you have a travel steamer or have suit jacket pressed. but that only happened once. but carry the steamer now in case is small one

I will be taking a steamer so I am going for it! I am trying to be organized and not stressed at the end before the cruise~|.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

Our "guest room" is a pack room for most of the year!! Certain things (toiletry bag, over the door shoe hanger, etc) are refilled each time we return from a trip so that those are always ready!! :thumbsup2

I have 2 modes of packing,, there is the out of thought things I run across now and then up to a month in advance I throw in a pile for a trip,, but not usually too many clothes, then I either do the clothes the night before due to laundry or a day ahead if laundry is done, LOL.
I wouldn't worry w wrinkles

I have our "First Aid" kit packed, but only because I was cleaning out the bathroom cabinets and thought I'd pack items as I came across them! Now I'm feeling like a slacker!

I am going to start working on FE's tomorrow and packing those. DS's birthday is 2 weeks before the cruise, so I figure the more I get done early, the better.

Someone WILL correct me if I am wrong but I don't think that steamers are allowed on any of the ships (safety hazard). Just take a travel size bottle of Downey Wrinkle Release to spritz on your clothes. :thumbsup2

The wrinkles will be minimal if everything is pressed prior to packing and you roll the clothes and use packing cubes and / or the pack-it flat folders.

:rotfl: We usually begin at least 3 months out. We lay out the suitcases and add items as we go.

We usually start a month ahead of time, we will mostly have new clothes for the trip, plus we dont need many warm weather clothes up here in May! I wish I had a spare bedroom to set up suitcases, and I do have trip buckets, as I have already started purchasing travel bottles, shoe organizers, new toothbrushes, etc

We leave for FL in 18 days and I haven't even thought about what to pack, much less started to pack. Can one of you come over and pack my stuff? :lmao:

I'm one of those "throw it in a suitcase the night before" people, but I will start making a final list this weekend. Plus, I have my cruise box that is always ready to go. I really need to get to work on my FEs.

Try 3 months in advance! My DH is surprised that I haven't started packing for our November 2013 cruise ( my Aunt is, though).
