has anyone ever heard of mousecents the travel guide, it's supposed to save you thousands on your vacation. I was wondering if it was a scam of a book. Thanks

I was wondering the same thing. Is it worth it? Is it a scam? Are they really secrets or the same things we can find out on here? Anyone with inside information?

I feel like basically anything you need to know you can find on the disboards or somewhere else online for free. I've never bought any of the travel books because when I look at them at the bookstore etc I feel like it's tips that I already know from the Dis (most of the time there better/more info from the people on the Disboards :thumbsup2 ) The one book that I remember reading when I was a kid is the early 90s was the Kids travel guide to Disney or whatever it's called....it was written by kids and I thought that was cool. But I've never bought a travel guide since.

There are NO "secrets" that only these "authors" know about EXCEPT the one they have found to fund THEIR Disney vacation. Get you to pay them for "free" information.

Based on posts others have posted about these "books", here are some of the thier common saving hints

1. Buy and AP and get an AP rate. (Not always guranteed, but they don't tell you that!)
2. Rent DVC points. (And they refer you to www.disboards for this!)
3. Take ME
4. Eat meals in your room
5. Buy tickets from "Their" preferred ticket broker. (Once again they get a kickback and you are funding THEIR vacation. Nothing wrong with that, just don't assume thier source is the best, check around)

I really really liked one called either the penny pincher's guide to WDW, or the cheapskate's guide to WDW.
It did help to save me $$ years ago.
One tip I learned is to freeze juice boxes and/or water and take those (and snack type things like oranges and cracker packs) with you in your backpack. Also, a stroller comes in handy, even if you don't have a child, it's a great place to have the backpack, towels, and other accoutrements.
I recently bought Disney on a Dime, by Chris and Kristal Carlson, and can't really recommend it.
If you're curious about certain books, you can go to Amazon's website and check the reviews, or, just get them from your local library (although they may not be up-to-date.)

Considering that my WDW vacations cost less then "thousands" to begin with I doubt they'd save me thousands.

Check out here and over at Mousesavers and you'll proabably find more information that any book can give you. Plus the book can't have the most recent offers.
