Has anyone ever fudged the number of people in your room?

We are facing a similar situation this summer. My parents have decided to join us. Making our party of 4 a party of 6. We are going to opt to leave our DS3 off of our reservation. HOWEVER, we will be buying him a park ticket and paying for his meals. We are in no way trying to pass him off as an under 3, even though we could. I am not out to cheat Disney.
Respectfully, while that may not be your intention, by not counting all the three-plus aged Guests in relation to room occupancy maximums, it's what you'll be doing.

Disney would allow seven people to stay in WHAT room?

Unless I read her post wrong - this is a family of seven - the youngest child is under 3 - Disney does not count a child under 3 in the occupancy. So therefore - she is able to have her family of 7 (with a child under 3) in a room that has a capacity for 6.

We will be staying at Poly. The two beds will be for the 4 adults and the day bed will be shared by our boys.

I'm not getting into the age issue here but wondered, how many of you share a room like this with your parents, or other family members? I don't care how close we are to our families, and we are VERY close to all, but I just can't see sleeping in the same room, not to mention getting ready in the morning.:scared1:

Don't mean to hijack, sorry, but I've often wondered so thought I'd ask. So do many of you do this?

Cheating them of money? No- They will get more of our money since I will be paying OOP for his tickets and meals-which would be cheaper in the package. Plus they will already be collecting the extra adults in my room fee.
Bypassing a fire/safety code? Yes and I will take my chances

As for sharing a room with my parents- never really thought about it. We have shared rooms with my parents and MIL on vacation for as long as I can remember. I have my privacy all the other days of the year- does not bother me to give it up for a few days. No biggie for us

I would SO not enjoy a vacation with 6 or 7 people crammed into one hotel room! Especially with children--talk about tripping all over each other, keeping each other awake, waiting for the bathroom--ugh! What kind of vacation is THAT?

We fit 5 plus an infant in the Poly once--never again! It was just too cramped. I'm sorry, I would find a cheaper way to go on vacation. Renting a place offsite and then a car would not only be cheaper, but give the entire family a ton of space. People could stay on their regular sleep schedules. Kids could play, adults could relax. I truly don't get the whole "onsite at all costs" mentality. But, if you must stay onsite, at least have enough beds for everyone.

Did this once with MIL. Never again. There are some other circumstances that others may not have, but never ever ever.

OP --I doubt you are going to get into any trouble. I think you will be crowded in the room, but that doesn't bother some. As far as your question goes: I have never fudged how many in the room. The time MIL stayed, we included her and paid the extra fee.

I am glad this topic came up. I have wanted to post, but was not sure how to word it and knew that flaming would ensue

I have been really worried about how this will work out, but I think it will be fine. We are not flying, so no ME needed. We are not partaking in EMH so no worry there.
We will be on the dining plan, so we will have to pay OOP for his meals, if he does not share them with the us or his brother at the non buffet places.

The dining plan is probably going to raise a red flag. How do you explain to the CM that everyone at your table is on the dining plan except for the 3yo, especially when the dining plan for a 3yo is cheaper than paying OOP and everyone in a room has to be on the same plan. Say he is a local cousin you just have with you for the day? I don't know...then you are back to fibbing.

In the opposite direction, one trip we had free dining and only 3 people in our room, and actually considered adding another of our kids who was staying home on paper only just for the extra TS meals so we could try some of the places that took 2 TS points...but in the end decided it wasn't a good idea.

Back in the days when we had 6 kids at home we stayed off-site in a 2 Bedroom condo for $85 a night and thought that was the bomb. Now we usually get 2 rooms at Pop and honestly its still crammed because DH and I have a hard time sleeping in those tiny beds and we aren't that big!!

This will not be an issue. We have all been on the plan before and still used credits for some and paid for some. Once you check in, your credits are lumped into one big group of adult credits and child credits. They are no longer assigned to a specific person. On our last trip, my SIL and BIL went to a 2 credit TS. There were also times when my MIL did not join us for a meal. Her credit was not wasted-my BIL and SIL used it to make up for their 2credit meal.

We have also used a dining credit on my youngest when he was not yet 3. They just deducted an extra kid meal credit from my oldest.

So as far as dining, that will not be an issue.

I think the issue is that Disney doesn't allow you to lie about how many are in your room. Like I and a few others have said. Tehre was a write up here once about how someone got asked to leave when they found extra in there room.

Also I want to bring up, that I think it's against DISboard rules to ask about how to get around Disney rules. I know I was on a thread once about the dining plan, and they were talking about how to get around and get more, and that thread was closed due to the fact they were trying to get around the rules.

I never asked how to get around it and I do not believe the OP did either. Just asked if anyone has done it. To which I commented that I was planning on it and I NEVER asked for advice on how to get around any rule or system.

No you didn't ask, but I think any talk about getting around it is not allowed. The thread that got closed was talking about how to use credits for children in a wrong way that Disney doesn't alow. They didn't ask for the info, they were telling about it.
I'm not trying to be mean, just forwarning that I "think" it's against Dis rules.

That's what I was thinking! I can't imagine going away with my parents, and having them stay in our room! :scared1: We had a 2 bedroom BCV, they had a studio, and we were on separate floors, and were very grateful. BTW, I live less than a mile from my parents, and see them every day, and we get along very well.

.

I hear you, WendyisDarling. We used to take MIL but the last few times were so horrid we said never again and meant it.

Minus ME, the child is under 3 therefore they wouldn't need a pass for EMH anyway. They wouldn't have a room key or a ticket to the park.
Are you sure? I thought the OP's (if that's who you're referring to) son is three but that she's planning to pass him off as being under three?

Ah, thanks! Got it! I thought we were already talking about a specific room and that I'd missed the location! So, you mean, say, for example, a Fort Wilderness Cabin or an All Star Music Family Suite? Yeah, that makes sense!

Well, yeah. By not getting the appropriate number of rooms for your party's make-up, based on the rules of the hotelier, you would be depriving the hotel of revenue based on the planned misrepresentation. They won't be getting more of your money (x-hundred dollars times two, per night) even though you have too many people in your party for the one room you plan; instead, they'll get x-hundred dollars plus $50 per night. Color me confused, but I don't understand how this can be positively supported :confused3

Oh, heck. I once shared a cruise cabin with just my (elderly) aunt, and swore "never again"!

When I went on a cruise with my brother a few years ago, we splurged on two balcony cabins.

When was your last trip? You may find that they are more strict about the dining credits matching with the room occupants than you did the last trip. We have a family of 7 (dh and I, 4 kids, and my mom) and we get two rooms. We traveled in August 2008 and used the dining plan - credits were shifted around to fit what we needed.

On our last trip in December, we found that they wanted those in the specific rooms to match the credits being used. At least at the TS restaurants (they did not care at CS). Both trips we had free dining. Just be aware that they may be more strict the next trip.

We always travel to Disney with my mom and my mom lives with us (she has for 15 years), but in general we get two rooms at Disney.

Now if my mom and I travel without dh and the kids, we share a room - no big deal.

I'm still not sure as to how many people the OP is bringing. Yes, she has 5 children but are they all going on the trip? Is there a spouse or other adult? If she is concerned about listing someone who is under 3 ( she said he would get into the parks free so he/she must be under 3) then that child doesn't count against the room occupancy limits. If there are 7 people going, with 6 already "counted" and booked, then they would already have either a suite, family suite, cabin, or a large DVC villa---Kathy
