Has anyone ever flown Spirit Airlines to DW?

I had no issue with anyone's reply in telling me how it is. I quoted exactly what I found to be sarcastic.

I just want to clarify: you think, when someone replies with 2 blunt words of "How considerate" when they are clearly aiming to say you are not considerate, that that is not saracastic? That is by definition sarcastic!

I'm just blown away here because I did not think, when i booked, that they split families up. I didn't pay for my seat selection because I interpreted it as something entirely different....please be patient with those of us who are new, and are not actually trying to harm everyone else while we book our vacations.
I am NOT going to get into a verbal shouting match here. BUT...again, I will say that we see many people, posting here on this board, that they will not be split up from their children and what they will do to force the airline to put them all together.
It is not considerate to expect someone else to change seats with you in order to accomodate you and your family. You posted that you felt it was 'what a rip', and that your kids would scream their heads off and that it would be in the airlines best interest to not split your family up. Well, that is kind of inconsiderate of those who did pay to be seated with their families. Why should they have to pay to be seated together, while you, who wanted a cheap flight, decided it was a 'rip' to pay for specific seating, and will cause a ruckus if you don't get seated together, didn't pay the addtl fee, but expect to be seated together??? Kind of unfair to those who did pay, don't you think?

You get what you pay for when flying. Certain things are important to me, so I am willing to pay for them. For instance, I flew to Ft Lauderdale last week. I flew on Airtran, and had only carryon bags. I knew that flights can be jammed with passengers with carryon bags only, so paid the addtl money to board early...that way I was able to be assured of overhead bin space. On only one of my flights was it an issue.....I didn't have to pay to board early to get that space. But I didn't know that going in. I decided to just pay it and not worry about overhead bin space. I'm sure there were some passengers, who boarded at the end of that one crowded flight, that were very put out that there were no spaces remotely close to their seats...if at all. But, they took their chances and didn't pay for the right to board early. Again...you get what you pay for. You don't want to pay for specific seats for your entire family? Then you take the remote chance of being split up. your choice.

Look, I don't have an issue with people's opinions and I understand your points - I just think it's kind of a shame that there is a rule about no sarcasm on here and you don't even enforce it. That comment I mentioned was just not necessary.

And you get what you pay for - want to cut costs by flying on Spirit? Run the risk of getting stuck next to my wailing 2 year old!

Mental note: NEVER ask about Spirit on a Disney board!!

In your opinion it was sarcastic. In my opinion, it wasn't.
Since this thread is no longer serving any purpose, other than to argue over semantics and my lack of moderating ability, I think it may be time to close it down. I'll give it a bit to see if we can get back on track...if not, it's done.

I might add, there is really no need to be rude or sarcastic here. Just a waste of your energy and totally unnecessary.
No. There is no need.

None at all. Ninguna.

But there is room for an honest observation. And that observation is that if your children ruin my flight, I'll tell them the truth about Santa and the lady in the Mickey Mouse costume.

I will say the Transporation Board is one of the more honest and to the point areas of this board. I just want to make you prepared for the fact that you may be separated from your child unless they are in a carseat. FAA rules state that if you have a child with a carseat one adult caregiver must be within arms length. For some of those people that did not get split up, that is because the flight was not full to begin with. So, at the 24 hour mark when seats were assigned they were able to accomodate those travelling together. Now you do know that you should pay the fee if you want to sit next to your child. My best advice would be to keep an eye on the flight and if it looks like it is filling up, to add the seat fee. You will also find posts on the board where a parent and child were split up. Again, this is why your fare was so low to begin with. It didn't include anything including sitting next to your party unless the seats were available 24 hours in advance.

Here is a list of their fees:

Standard Fees - Online purchase Domestic International
Carry-On Bag (At Booking / before check-in) $30 $30
First Checked Bag (At Booking / before check-in) $28 $33
Overweight Baggage
41 – 50 lbs. (18 – 23 kg) $25.00 per bag
Oversize Baggage
More than 62 linear inches (158 cm) $100.00 per bag
Seat Fees
Spirit Assigned Seating at Check-In Free
Customer-Requested Seat Assignments / Deluxe Leather $1.00 to $50.00 per seat
Big Front Seats (in advance) $12.00 to $199.00 per seat
Onboard Snacks and Drinks
Snacks $1.00 to $10.00
Drinks $1.00 to $15.00

Due to the fees, a lot of people would rather not fly with them. So, it may be possible it is not a full flight so you may be able to sit together if you do not prepurchase flights. Most fliers add in all the fees and compare it to what you get on other carriers. For example, Jet Blue.....Roomy seats, tv with every seat, free drinks, snacks, free carryon, free checked bag, most seat selections are free. Great flight times etc....

For me, with my children, I would not take the chance.

With Airtran I posed a very similar question the first time I flew, without the "make them try" attitude. Once people started giving me their feedback, I added the seat fee. Just not worth the chance to me. YMMV.

Look, shut it down then if you feel like it since you are a moderator - I got what I needed in terms of info anyway.

Thanks, I will keep this in mind. In all honesty, I'm not phased much *if* they do separate us....but for some reason, I just am not feeling that will happen. If I'm wrong, I'll live.

Wow...thanks for the permission. Yep, that's sarcasm.
