Has anyone ever figured their "break even" point?

We just closed on our BWV resale and I made ressies for two trips in 2002. We paid $10,200 for the resale. I had if I paid cash for the ressies it would have cost me $4800. Half way to break even....

The question is - without DVC would you have made the same 2 trips and, if so, stayed in the same lodging? If the answer is no then you really didn't get as close to your real break even as you think.

That is how they suck you in. Admitted, we are getting sucked in as well. We made an offer on a VWL resale yesterday and DW is starting to make plans to go to Hilton Head in addition to out trip to WDW next Nov. :).

Can you elaborate on your resale (points, cost per, etc.)? We are still waiting to see if our offer is accepted. If it is not we aren't sure if we should up the offer or look for something else. It would be good to get some real sales info as a reference point. Thanks.

If you are lucky and use DVC to the maximum in Grand Villas AND (lucky dog) have had free passes you break even in less than 5 years.

If you are fortunate enough to pay cash for DVC you can break even in under five years.

If you finance your DVC you probably break even in the 10 to 15 year period depending on the interest you pay on your loan.

Yes - I have been "sucked in" but I would have not stayed home like a hermit if I hadn't bought DVC. I would have taken an expensive vacation somewhere anyway. The bonus for me is that I can send my kids so they can travel at a price they would not otherwise afford. The gift is priceless to them - literally.
